  1. Along similar lines....Talking about tracks/Merging etc........Here in the Mighty Manawatu, has anyone thought about selling off both Awapuni and the Trotting/Greyhound course as both surrounded by housing and on the fringe of the city - Then start with a clean sheet at Foxton? Plenty of room to strech out at Foxton - Think Mega training centre with top notch facilities - Gallops/Trots?/Greyhounds. Awapuni function centre could still be kept as offices/Function centre. Foxton only 20 odd minutes away from Palmerston North. Could even lobby to get the train line re-instated

12-15 years ago and prior when TR generated enough net wagering revenue to pretty much cover their stakes and operating costs. Now they are in the dole cue requiring revenue from pokies, sports, overseas racing and the taxpayer. How much worse can it get and where will it be when the $24m bailout (after paying the necessary $26m bills last week to avoid default) disappears in the next month or so? Hope that helps.

I can't believe how John Allen could gain another high profile executive job in the same country......Let alone the same City Makes my blood boil that he can Bullshit his way into a $700K job at NZRB - do F all but talk more Bullshit....Waste $50 Million plus and just move on like nothing has happened. These Gravy trains for executives have to stop......No one should be paid more than the Prime Minister......unless you own the business and earned the money yourself.

Avondale RC members are feeling aggrieved at their loss of 'licence to race" and that is very understandable. But out of change comes opportunity. A chance to be part of something bigger than will be always successful. An amalgamation of the assets of Avondale, Counties and ARC under the structure of private company. Never mind the sop of a free room at Ellerslie - all Avondale JC members become Life Members with rights that transfer down to family in perpetuity wherever Northern Inc races.. The funds coming from asset realization to be used to put AW tracks in at Pukekohe and Elle

NZ's best time ever!?!?! Debatable. Depends on what factors one wishes to compare. The TAB was pretty close to going belly up last Friday, and it was only the taxpayer throwing coin at it, that has kept it afloat. For the time being. Season 1978-79 was pretty good. I would say a lot "gooder" than today. Let me list the reasons: 1) The NZ TAB made a profit of $14.13million. That's over $14 million pure profit, in the late 70's! In the 70's!!! How much would that be in today's money? That would buy a few pairs of flares. What were house/land prices back then? T

  10. I think then the easiest way is anything is split 50/50 after all its a free bet to start with. Then its simple and easy and everyone knows where they stand...there have been some put back in to comps some have not which has been fine...but I just think as we are doing so many that its better to have a simple policy that everyone knows the rules to begin with. I have been wrestling with this for a long time and I feel its just the right way to do things fairly so as many members as possible can have a chance to do well in one way or another from the comps...Scooby.

NZ Racing has been lacking in collaboration for 50 years or more when it comes to agreeing to a plan/strategy to future proof the Industry. Of course there has been a lot of challenges along the way.......Lotto,Casino,Pokies and overseas competition ,Sharemarket crash , GFC ,ACC costs, Health & Safety and other legislation incl employment law,Earthquakes etc etc then the Racing Act and the general change in population spread , immigration and huge change in attitudes.People got more materialistic , needed 3 x cars and 3 x TV's per household and 2x overseas trips a year etc etc.Greyho

    (1) Peter Jenson is quoted as saying 1 Harness Racing Club lost their dates as a direct result of the Thoroughbreds losing theirs at the same Venue Yet Banks Peninsula loses the Thoroughbreds and the Harness continues? Why is that Barbie? (2) You give a region (Manawatu) a heap of Tuesday meetings Then you take all their dates off them because their T/O's aren't good enough Tell me, how good would ATC's T/O's be if they raced on Tuesday afternoons? Interesting times. A couple of months ago, or a couple of years ago you could have browsed Race Cafe to read about dissatisfaction with the status quo. Now that there are many changes afoot - you guessed it - you can pop on Race Cafe and read about dissatisfaction with change. If you like something, have the guts to say so. If you dislike something then (briefly) suggest an alternative. Having a whinge about inaction and also having a whinge about change makes little sense. Going by their 2019 Annual Report the TAB pulls in just under $30m revenue a month. This mont

  16. I just wonder if the minimum bet had increased slowly over that period of time then people would have just gone along with it. When the casual race goer goes to the races they want a bet on every race so whilst the minimum is $1 they will spend that $1 to have an interest, I think the same would apply if we even doubled it to $2 now. When I first went to the pub 21 years ago a pint was $3 so would have a couple and on my way, it's about $8 now but it hasn't stopped me having a couple.

I like your thinking Baz , at the very least your thinking of something that hasn't been tried , might work , might not . Someone might point out a refinement or two or five . But unfortunately as we discuss all the time they have never asked for new ideas or thoughts , never wanted to . Imagine if we got 40/50 ideas like yours to thrash around . But it's all good they've got it under control .

Going by their past record it would be like handing your cash flow card to a bloke with 50 burglary convictions. Basically, would you hand over anything to this wobegotten bunch of weasels ? Would be very few here before who have had one complimentary thing to say about the way they have run the circus , now they can be trusted to do handle the acquisition faithfully and with a morality, previously not on display ? Yet again someone comes up with an idea out of the square , which might be feasible , might not . But wait the powers that be don't want the plebs involved , don't want any consultation with the great unwashed . If they had gone out to the coal face and held workshops where industry participants who wished to , could come along and throw a few ideas around . And who knows out of the hundreds maybe evens thousands of outa whack and dumbass suggestions that got thrown around , maybe , just maybe 5 , 10 or 20 ideas might have shone thru as really forward thinking and pro active enough to be put

  27. Grandad47 (Ray) Based on what I know and what I have read, I don't believe racing has much of a future when our only solution to this crisis is to reduce costs clubs and tracks. To continue on the same path in this environment, an environment saturated with hundreds of attractive alternatives competing for the same dollar, that is suicidal behaviour. The racing industry has always been the domain of those who see no further than their backyard, clinging to their boundary pegs for dear life. When they should have been looking to amalgamate and consolidate, they built higher fences instead.

Gom has highlighted genetic issues in our dogs and these should not be ignored or underestimated as failure is both irresponsible and avoidable. Corey has requested some genetic guidelines. A basic understanding is a must have. It is a myth that the dam has more genetic influence than the sire. The dam's increased importance is due to her role as carer during pregnancy and in rearing. Genetic contributions to the offsprin

  35. The fact TAB charged The Informant for fields etc shows how out of touch their sales/marketing team were. They should have given as much info as Informant wanted for free. Someone wants to promote the industry you should fall over backwards to support them. It's clear the TAB have no understanding of generating sales.

They were insolvent and facing default well before COVID was even heard of. Read John Aubrey's analysis per Barry Lichter. Now they are cutting $10m pa of staff costs? But they have nothing on the table to improve revenus, seem to have done little about outsourcing licensing options, ignored the principles of Messara's venue plan, have virtually no money, no assets and no plan. At least none that they have shared with stakeholders.

Will you still bet with them after the last weeks events,I wont but will only when the present board on rita are sacked, remember these odd balls in suits(and it's not just this lot)have created the shambles with bad management(website is one thought that pops up)and it's the racecourses ,the media the commentators the stakes and the list goes on and on that get the backwash. If the all blacks performed as bad the players the coaches would probably get replaced so why not this lot. Now that the whole organisation has hit rock bottom(I'm not sure how much further they can go)a total
