    Womens Sport, NZ.

Our womens Cricketers create history today losing to Pakistan in a 20 20 for the first time, have Pakistan got better or our team got worse ? Then our football team continues to struggle to score goals, another scoreless draw v Columbia,. Then I see some demanding more pay, notably Soccer players but they have to meet the market, crowds are mostly non existent many times, womens sport and men sport are completely different and each needs to be treated as such and I'm not knocking the females, just putting things in perspective.

  5. What a pleasant surprise today to have Arran White doing the continuity work on Trackside. He speaks clearly and informatively, a welcome change from those yabbering schoolgirls. Hope he is used more in the future.

Quaddie turnovers are probably a bad indication of turnovers at trots are notoriously low, Methven's turnover will be about 1.2 to 1.3m, just as important will be the gbr measured against stakes and costs. AKAROA was about 800 which is pretty good for a Saturday. Unfortunately Saturdays just don't work for the trots, Aussie gallops rule.

  11. Saw the interview and had a little chuckle when she dropped the "shit". She's obviously worked very hard for all the amount of time she's been out as she's looking very fit and healthy. And she liked the chances of her mount in the last and I was happy as I got it earlier at 16's FF. I obviously expected it to drop in a bit after the interview... End up closing at 26's!!!... argh

  14. Unfortunately Leith, nice bloke though he may be, is no Corey Brown. Usually just confirms or repeats the drivel Popplewell speaks or tells us what we have just seen watching the race--almost as if P is the ventriloquist with little Leith sitting on his knee! Boots Sweeney was the real deal when he was available.(Where the bloody hell are ya?)

  16. Post a music clip or maybe a sporting clip, should be good for a comment or two, in favour or not ? Plenty of good music or sports event to chat about, both present and past. Any clips from the past as well I spose.. I have to admit while regarding a lot of today's music as crap, I have to confess one or two songs I watch on you tube is actually not bad, IMHO.

  17. with the unfortunate financial difficulties in both Auckland and Cambridge harness racing I would like consideration to the well managed and well set up Manawatu centre is given for a major upgrade .The collective horses trained within say 2 hours drive of Palmerston North and population is relatively large and time is ripe with the 3 wise men running the country for a "think big Proposal" Father Winston and the Lux and their adopted son little David could all be in favour of a true entertainment centre (harness/ conference/hotel/casino/ ) This hub would be fantastic for the area and attract even more trainers to set up in the region,.By cancellation of many billion dollar projects time could be ripe for such a proposal. .....(or am I still asleep !!)

  22. She is a Very good staying mare, Jools. Her dam by Zabeel. Nassak Diamond's last start in NZ was a 7th at Counties 2400m .some how she showed enough for her Trainers/ owners to pay up for the J CUP. Her start before was 12/13 behind Nest Egg over 2400m. at Te Rapa. Congratulations to Shaun and young Colm. and the Oaks Stud.

  23. Justin Evans will now replace Tony in February and will be the gallops caller and Harness caller along with backing up M Rosanowski when needed. After how Tom Wood was treated when he was here in NZ be interested to see if he is given the big meetings straight away, like NZ Oaks day is only about 6-7 weeks into his new role and the HB Spring Carnival is less than 8 months in. Dan Fogarty will be the Southland greyhound caller in what is good development for him - might still do the odd greyhound meeting at Addington here and there and Craig Rail will be the Gallops/Harness caller for the south.

  26. Ok we have a problem MAYBE , we have panic in the health department you have to wonder why ?, stolen info has been released off shore and the courts are stopping it here . Chief executive at Te Whatu Ora Margie Apa said the staff member, who has no clinical background or expert knowledge, was trying to spread misinformation. "What he is claiming is completely wrong and ill-informed and his comments demonstrate this , "Sadly, we have continued to see conspiracy theorists disseminating false and harmful misinformation." Apa said the worker was trying to "misuse our data to spread misinformation". He was no longer at work at an employment investigation was underway. Apa told 1News she couldn't express how disappointing it was that a contributing member of their team had "really just let us down". "He's stolen this data from us and we're really mindful that New Zealanders trust us with information, so being able to trust our staff to undertake their duties and treat this information respectfully is really important to us," she said. She said the information this individual had access to in their day-to-day job was non-clinical. "The inferences he's drawn are just wrong," she said. Apa said the case was "very unusual" in Te Whatu Ora's existence as staff are highly trusted. Te Whatu Ora told 1News the worker shared misinformation on a Covid-19 vaccine conspiracy site. "We assure people there is no evidence whatsoever that vaccination is responsible for excess mortality in New Zealand and that they can continue to have confidence in vaccines," she said. "By chance and separate to a prior Covid-19 vaccination event, some people will experience new illnesses or die from a pre-existing condition shortly after vaccination, especially if they are elderly," she said. Lets see how this all ends up , great propaganda for the conspiracy camp , IT'S NOT YOU IS IT Gruff ??

  29. Some notes and History behind The Jericho Cup raced at Warrnabool ,South Victoria at 6:55pm Sunday 3rd December. ( Supplied by Jericho Cup website ). Best of luck and stamina to the two NZ Trained horses and NZ bred gallopers. I have raced a few that needed more than the distance of today's Cup,4600m . APPROACHING THE END OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR THE AUSTRALIAN LIGHT HORSE WERE PLANNING A MAJOR OFFENSIVE AGAINST THE TURKISH EMPIRE. IN ORDER TO LULL THE ENEMY INTO BELIEVING NOTHING UNUSUAL WAS AFOOT, A RACE MEETING WAS ORGANISED ON THE EVE OF THE ASSAULT. The main race was called The Jericho Cup over 3 miles through the desert sands. The winner was Bill the Bastard, probably Australia’s Greatest War Horse. His exploits are detailed in the book Bill the Bastard by noted historian Professor Roland Perry. You can read Chapter 24 “The Ruse” here. It tells the story of the first Jericho Cup. The Jericho Cup will be re-run annually (4th Sunday after the Melbourne Cup) from the 100th anniversary in 2018 to honour Bill the Bastard, the Australian Light Horsemen and their magnificent mounts – The Walers 1914 to 1918. After the disaster of the Gallipoli landing they collectively formed the spearhead of the Allied Forces in the Middle East. They destroyed the centuries old Ottoman Empire and drove the Turks from the Holy Land. Traditionally we have remembered the disaster and not the ultimate victory

  33. As we all know, Tony’s last day will be Wellington Cup Day, the same day 30 years ago that created his famous one liner ……… “and the dream burst’s into reality” You can be assured that the WRC will do something really appropriate. I sincerely hope so anyway! Trackside Premier (channel 64) will be playing that day, so they will certainly have the time, the staff or whatever else is needed to do something really special and broadcast it live. I guess that will be the test of their “true colours” for the best commentator in NZ, since the great Peter Kelly, the other magical voice of Trentham.

  34. Tony Lee isn't a name with which I was familiar until I came onto this site. I found a piece on him from Loveracing at the Livamol - his love for the sport and its participants is clear. He didn't say a lot about how he prepares for a day in the commentary box - it seems every caller has their own way of doing things. I wonder if he ever heard Sir Peter O'Sullivan in his (Tony's) younger days. There's just something about the way he talks - a real self-deprecation - that reminds me of our "Voice of Racing".

  35. Shame Trackside never had the respect to cover the presentation...after all no matter what he has dedicated most of his life to the sport.

  36. Can’t wait till we model out presentations on the Radley Dufficy Corey Brown model … excellent knowledge, identify runners at unders, analytical pre race analysis, individual horse assessment in the ring etc etc and post race interviews with the winning connections simply superb. The beaten jockey interviews, as they walk back to the jockeys room, in Sydney particularly, are excellent too and often black bookers tossed out as I have found the comments very rewarding Live in hope

  37. Good to see a presentation for T Lee today after the presentation of the Wanganui Cup. All the jockeys came out into the birdcage which was respectful. Sharrock up there calling him a mate but even he couldn’t save his skin. You can see why T Lee is in the talking game after his speech.

    Police Raids

Most people with half a brain could see that the financial toll of coming up with half a million dollars out of thin air to fight to clear their name as well as the emotional distress of being called a cheat for five years when you are innocent might typically fall under the banner of legal action for damages.

  40. Her ride on Footloose at Tauranga was sublime. Rears at the start, settles last, moves forward 3 wide with cover & waits till top of the straight & then gives it clear running. A very intelligent thinking rider, many others would have slaughtered it by continuing forward going 4-5 wide.

One would have to say though, three days in Canterbury two weekends in a row and the numbers stacked up pretty well, impressive. Everywhere else they struggle for numbers one day a week. Just sometimes those Canterbury grass days do seem to have big turnover, I only use the late quaddie as a rough yardstick. Cromwell gallops was very impressive, both trot meetings over the weekend seemed small as opposed to normal, just a casual observation, maybe too much of a good thing ?

$47200 in the Cromwell gallops quaddie and $14687 at Methven, Motukarara yesterday was less than 8, Timaru Saturday last week was around 15 but normally Sunday Canterbury meetings have usually large quaddies but there is 10000 first four today so that might make a difference, some of those Saturday harness meetings especially in Southland , seem to get very poor pools yet HRNZ keep scheduling them, I often read that clubs are trying to maximize turnover but are they? Clearly there is not much interest these days in Saturday harness meetings, how long is it since night racing on Saturdays was mothballed, someone must know.
