  1. The track condition at Auckland left something to be desired. The surface was far too loose, and therefore made it very hard for the dogs to get a hold of it. The times tell the tale, as the 527m Maiden was run in 31.97. None of these dogs would have qualified on that time. I don't know how to better the condition, but am of the opinion, that since the re-surfacing the track has taken a turn for the worse.

    MISTAKES HAPPEN

You really are a bitter old cow aren't you? You see to have a real problem with certain people posting, while others seem to say whatever they like. How about just running the site without poking your nose in? You say not to accuse anyone without definite proof and now you want me to name people? It's no wonder there are no new posters about.

  3. Is there any truth to this that the NZGRA are following NSW greyhound association in forcing trainers to put water bowls in their dogs kennels before they race at the track? I hope not as I'm sure most people would know it is unhealthy for a dog to be drinking water right before they race around a track at High speeds and will cause big welfare issues in my opinion. I see in NSW, a few well respected trainers are already refusing to put a bowl of water in with their dogs and rightfully so

  4. I generally wouldnt respond to a post that isnt directed to me directly. In particular a criticism by someone that is quite happy to call people out by their position, but cant sign their name to their post. Personally i think its a reflection of someones character that isnt able to stand up for what the believe in. So alltheway!!!, id like to know who the board members are that you have made a complaint to, i know i'm not one of them, and i know at least one other director you havent spoken to, so that leaves 3 others are you sure you have spoken to all three, ie most of the directors, i would suggest that you havent... however if it strengthens your statement feel free to post mis-truths. ph the club and they can give you my mobile number, I am more than happy to discuss the track and where I think it is at. My opinion of the track may surprise you. Im waiting for your call....

  6. Murry Baker said what any trainer should have said under the circumstances.Had missed a couple of trials therefore behind in her prep.Hes not going to say "shes a home run" in case his caution was right and she got beaten. All he said was he was surprised at her divvy after so long off.Remember Dummy Myers and his interview, which I never saw, insured he would never be interviewed again.Andrew Foresman or murry are interviewed on the radio almost every Saturday morning and for mine that's going out of their way.Their loyalty is to their owners who pay the bills and not jo blog punters who winge when they miss out on a winner. They always I think give honest comments on their runners and if it was me getting bagged for telling the truth I would do a Dummy

  7. Yeah that becomes apparent once you read a few paragraphs. Still one of a kind though and I'm thankful he took the time do it! Fascinating that the NZRB/RIB were given exclusive rights to offer sports betting in NZ even though they didn't really want it. Now it and the pokies are the only things keeping them afloat. The tail is wagging the dog.

  8. So just to clarify, youve spoken to one board member 6 weeks ago...... so your statement on this public forum of "most of them laugh at you, argue the opposite or ignore you completely. They actually think they have improved the track. " is completely untrue. If you dont feel the tracks up to standard fair cop, by all means make your thoughts known, i would encourage anyone to do that, but dont lie on a public forum to try and strengthen your opinion, you will simply get yourself into more trouble than your pseudonym can protect you from. Like i said previously ring the club, get my number im more than happy to discuss with you.

  13. Probably doesn't help if they turn the track two or three days before the races I agree, the new surface has made the track a lot worse. You only have to look at the dangerous dip on the track surface next to the 318m boxes to see that. And the amount of muscle injuries there has been ridiculous. If you actually say that to a board member or make a complaint, most of them laugh at you, argue the opposite or ignore you completely. They actually think they have improved the track.

  18. Iffraaj has left a NZ 3 year old crop that is one of the best in my memory. He has sired five 3yr old colts that are stakes winners starting with Karaka Millions Winner Xiong Feng, and followed by The Soultaker - since sold to Hong Kong. Then followed the Group winners Wyndspelle, Gingernuts and Jon Snow - the last two are unbeaten in Australia. And before these 3 year olds we had Turn Me Loose. Iffraaj had only two yearlings in the Karaka Premier Sale this year. He now deserves to be now recognised as an elite stallion - just like Tavistock whose stock were significantly upgraded for our last sale series. Well done to Haunui, Mark, Shannon and your team

    Race Replays

What help to punters are these replays 4 or 5 days later when a lot of the dogs have had another start since then I can’t understand how I can watch a Horse race on trackside, and then view the trackside replay an hour later on NZracing. Why can’t we get this with dogs also?

    Winning Rupert

Interested in peoples thoughts in regards to this horse, has the Stallion/Breeders market gone crazy? Winning Rupert has recently been purchased for a reported $5 Million (AUS), his best performances have been winning a G2 and a G3 in Brisbane , never raced in Sydney or Melbourne and never outside age group racing. No doubt he was very talented and fast but those wins were all he accomplished. Pedigree wise he's by Written Tycoon who is currently going very well but otherwise apart from himself there are no other black type performers within his first 5 generations! It has been announced that he is standing for AUS $22,000 inc. GST This must be the weakest female family seen in a stallion for a long time, and is only a Queensland performed racehorse, it will be interesting to see how he is received and how he goes. Thoughts?

  21. It is the inconsistency that's the problem. Not so much the time. The maiden however stood out. It's the not knowing from week to week what the surface is going to be like. The board members must have our best interest at heart, so lets not attack them. It's more important to find a solution for this problem.

  24. It is a very good book that is interesting to read although it has a distinct bias to the TAB's perspective of things in places.
    1 point
  25. Not sure didn't the original Act provide for that? I know that was how it worked because some sports did NOT allow betting so the TAB were unable to offer them, for example the 1996 Olympics. The sports that DID sign up only did so because they were guaranteed a piece of the pie which they still get to this day.

  26. Yes, and a faster track means more bone fractures. Old story, faster you go bigger the mess. We need to take a leaf out of how American tracks are prepared, deep and slow. As i said, i do not no what other issues are effecting Auckland, ie inconsistant surface, type of mix etc, but the principle of slowing the tracks down is good for mine. Alltheway, it doe's not matter what type of surface you race on, there will always be injuries. Give me muscle injuries anyday, as against bone fractures.

  27. I think the problem John is not so much fast or slow but consistency. Yesterday was a nightmare for punters overall with a lot of dogs not going an inch in the going that were quite happy the previous week. I heard Peter Early say a few times that a race was all over the place. Henny is correct a race that does not meet the qualifying conditions must almost meet the criteria for a no race. I do not know if the track is actually better or worse but yesterday it was out of ordrer.

  29. Berri, is the details of what sport get important because you believe racing has some form of entitlement to that revenue? They don't. Racing don't have any of those assets, they don't have any IP. They simply get given what the government thinks they are worthy of getting. Justification for getting that is in free fall and anything that keeps the other parties happy for a little bit longer is something racing should welcome with open arms.
    1 point
  30. Sure it's been agreed to, but it still has to be legislated and probably a new government will be doing that and every one will have a chance to have input in the interim. It hardly seems worth discussion at this point. You've certainly done a nice job derailing a thread that was about the merits of the racefields legislation with your hysteria about a triviality which may be the only good thing about it as I originally suggested.

  32. Berri the amendment has to go through the usual legislative process. It will be publicly available once it has been drafted and presumably if it makes it to select committee stage, submissions will be called for etc. Of course we don't yet know what government will be presiding over that process. The suggestion by JA that it might be law by September is clearly a pipe-dream. The worry is what could happen to it as far as other amendments are concerned after that. I re-iterate, that IMO it would be in racing's best interests to revert to a model where it generated sufficient revenue from its own product to sustain itself, rather than rely on revenue from sources that have nothing to do with it and can be wiped out by a politician's pen anytime it suits them. Continuing to operate from desperate measures to retain shares of revenue from pokies, sports betting and other overseas events is a recipe for total disaster.

  34. I've seen nothing that makes me disagree with you there. But on the Act, if the government is to continue with surplus revenues being handed out to racing with some going to sport, I fully support the idea of sport getting more of that. A minor shift in the level of subsidy afforded racing by way of the Act would have to be better than a complete rewrite of the Act removing most of the current subsidy from them. Surely racing is better off sacrificing a little now, than increasing the focus to the political 'groups' as to their lack of benefit to NZ as a whole. It might well delay the likely inevitable for another 5 - 10 years giving racing the chance to rectify things such that they are once again an important part of NZ's fabric and its economy before the politicians decide enough is enough.

  37. Blindness and illiteracy are two attributes that neither Midgie and I lack. It would seem as though we are both coherently (separately and not collaboratively) pointing out the same thing to very unintelligent and deranged people. We have arrived at a point where the carousel has returned to the main issue despite some very strange and misguided comments on the road to this point. We have a change to the Act occurring and one only has to read the opening post by John Allen to question the motivation of that change. To remind everyone of John's comments, refer to the following as content in John's original opening post: "Finally, the amendment will confirm the new formula agreed between NZRB and Sport New Zealand which will be based on Net Betting Revenue rather than Turnover. This formula has been agreed in recognition of the significant growth of sports betting in New Zealand and will provide greater returns to sporting organisations while stillproviding significant returns to racing from sports betting." It would seem that the NZRB has made an agreement with Sport NZ which changes the equation in the current Act under G (1) (d) i and ii. It states that this has been agreed between the parties and in recognition of the significant growth in sports betting. He also states that the returns to sporting organisations will increase, even though significant returns will be made to racing from sports betting. What is "greater returns"? What does that men? Is it more money or is it a greater percentage of the funds made from sports betting? So the question I have (and I think this is where Midgie is coming from) is what is the agreed deal? Have NZTR been consulted? If they have why haven't the NZTR publicised the deal so that we can all debate the process before it becomes enshrined in law. Where is the transparency? The last time this happened we all got completely fucked when our leaders (Hickton, Bettle, Chittick, Alkin, Fenwick and co) really bent us over and slammed one home so hard that our tongues poked out, we were neutered, and prostrate cancer looked like a fairy garden party. You are all bonkers if you can't interpret John's message. I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S GOOD OR BAD. What I do know is that I don't know enough but what I am hearing has alarm bells written all over it. Maybe I'm being paranoid but if you go back to my first post, it was "what is the deal? ". I actually like John but I know he has had very little experience in this space and I need to know his motivation is purely to support racing. That is what the current Act states. The 2010 quotes by the Minister is utter dross issued by a bloke that doesn't care. If he did, he would understand that in 1993 there were approx 30,000 involved in racing. He would see the declining market share of racing as a relevant sport and business, and he would have up to date data on the current numbers as a consensus was completed post 2010. This will see a further decline in participation numbers , market share and the financial welfare of the industry. We are shortly going to breed only 3000 mares!!! Don't you guys read the content of these posts? Are you concerned at all? Not getting involved in this early stage of the final wording of the Act could be seen as an act of complacency.

    geoff small

In between all the gratuitous insults and bad grammar, there appear to be two indisputable facts on this matter: 1. Over the years, Geoff Small transgressed various rules of racing on a number of occasions (although several of those were ultimately subject to no official sanction), eventually receiving a lengthy suspension. 2. In recent years, his training record has been a shadow of what it once was. Facts 1 and 2 may or may not be related, but it's hardly drawing a long bow to suggest they might be. And in trying to refute that connection, simply ignoring the existence of facts 1 and 2 isn't a very credible position.

  43. I don't think sport should receive the money bet on sport. I don't think racing should get it either. I do think they are entitled to a fee for use of information (in the same way NSW Racing tested that right in Australia and won there). But if the government isn't going to dramatically change what it does with that revenue, then NZ sport would be as deserving of surplus revenues from sports betting as NZ racing is deserving of surplus revenues from racing betting. I wouldn't be concerned about the %'s changing to sport. I'd be more concerned about significant changes in the Racing Act resulting in a complete change in the way racing is funded based on the insignificance racing is now in NZ society and its importance (read lack of), to the economy. That is what governments concern themselves with. And what was once, is no longer the case.
