  1. I hope no one replies to this message. There has been too many postings lately that would have been best not sent. I made a huge mistake in attacking the garden 3 weeks ago and those pesky privet trees were maybe too big to have been pulled out by hand. The result has been a disc moving to where it shouldn't be and pressing on a nerve that runs down a leg. This necessitates potent pain killers every few hours and not a lot of sleep. I can't drive and do all the things that makes life fun. I wish I could go back 3 weeks and do one thing differently! When I pulled out of PJ's next comp it was because as the last 3 saturdays have shown, you have to be able to think straight or you let your team mates down. Even on Saturday I was telling Howie how I thought at least Bonniegirl would get me started. He looks at me puzzled and says "you haven't taken Bonniegirl?" Yip I had written the wrong number on my sheet. What I have read on this thread has left me just plain sad. No other word like angry, confused or disappointed conveys my thoughts as much as sad. It was like watching the USA presidential debates, both sides thinking they were right but in most of the rest of the country stood by and just shook their heads. PJ's comps are legendary. Enjoyed by all and even between the combatants there has always been wit and banter. But there is always that line in the sand between humour and well... hurting of feelings. Without the banter then it is just another comp. I often put an entry in the Stabletalk comp. But as good as the scoring is, the last post is just a list of totals and placings. PJ's comps are / were special. I admit to being sceptical of the draft system last year but it turned out one of the best comps. I admit I was wrong. There...said it! PJ stopping the next comp, given the circumstances, is what I would have done too. The precedent of one person spoiling a comp happened a couple of years ago. Person disappeared and things returned to normal. I am not yet classified as old but I remember when you could get on a plane without the checks, metal detectors and list a mile long of things you can't have with you. Then some loonies hijacked or blew up planes. Now the rest of us suffer. When all 5 yo kids walked to school until one nutter kidnaps a child, now everyone drives the children to school and the rest of us queue in traffic. My hope would be that in a few weeks, apart from getting some "nerve shunt" I am waiting for, PJ announces a winter draft comp reboot. All previous posts are ignored and everyone plays nicely. The silent majority (I don't make that category) gets their 4..6 hours of fun on a saturday. Life is meant to have some fun, even if that means watching your horse get beaten on the final step.. again! To all you others, who I see only on the comp threads for all these years as a pseudonym and avatar, but feel I know you, thanks for being there and making my weekends just that little bit better. sincerely Geoff LastOf40

  3. There's been several comments on here about idiots, scumbags, .... (plural). Let's be very clear there is really only one idiot/scumbag at the heart of all of this nonsense. It started a few years back when I ran a knockout comp and he was beaten by Cabbage in the semi finals. Rather than congratulate Cabbage he came out with this vitriol about how she had copied Aiden Rodley's selections (or was it Stu Laing's?). Cabbage was so hurt by this she hasn't entered the comps since. Note, this was a competition that I ran with my own time and money and he didn't have to pay any entry fee. He was a member of the Hurricanes team at the time but we didn't really appreciate that sort of behaviour and he left our team. Since then he has clearly harboured a lot of ill will against the Hurricanes. This manifested itself when Hesi ran the Top Cat comp over the summer (assisted by TC). He had been eliminated from the competition but he questioned Hesi's clarification of the shootout rules, claiming that Hesi had changed the rules and thereby undermined the competition. Note, this was a competition Hesi was running with his own time and some of his own money and nobody paid any entry fee. Nobody else objected to this change - not even the people who had co-sponsored the comp. This crusade got quite nasty to the point where he was openly calling into question TC's integrity/ethics when all he was doing was giving up his time to help run a comp. and more recently he has rejoined Peter's comps - again he doesn't pay an entry fee but again he does all he can to undermine this comp - often questioning Peter's choice of races, making it quite clear that he doesn't care about Oz racing (so why enter a comp that has 5 Oz races every week?), and last week posting a set of picks where 95% of them were non runners (just to make some ridiculous point in response to what happened to him the week before). He entered the Winter Comp and several of us told Peter we didn't want to enter. We told Peter to go ahead without us - we didn't put any ultimatums to him about not entering unless we could pick our own team or unless certain individuals didn't play. Peter's comps are bigger than any individuals but it is my choice who I want to associate myself with. There are a bunch of us who love the comps - we put up our own time and money to run some of these. We don't need to take this type of abuse/behaviour and some of us have pushed back. This is not unreasonable.

The point being that incorrect information is consistently being provided on form. It is sloppy, unprofessional and misleading for punters.

If you listen to anyone on Trackside guessing/tipping you're brain dead, and God help your wallet. What you want from them is information not tips, just tit bits, e.g., if a horse is sweating up badly, reluctant to load, being reshod, been in the barriers a long time, has a gear change, .....or conversely remarkably relaxed.... that's information, you can use that to your advantage so that's what you should demand. As for Trackside tipsters putting thought into their selections, you're kidding, they're oxymorons with legs, and they may as well be putting thought into what the colour of the number 8 smells like.

  9. I'm going to cancel this comp. After the exchanges that have gone on in this forum in the past 24 hours and numerous private emails from people withdrawing, some of whom had earlier stated they will be in, I just can't be bothered with the BS. I'm sorry for those keen to participate. Thanks for offering. It's going to be a quiet winter. These things are mean't to be fun, this crap isn't.

I note the TAB have employed this practice recently. When there is an absolute standout they come up with other suggestions or reported " huge win movers " which attract the less cynical of us, recent examples are : 1 ) Race 2 Hawkes Bay When the Good thing of the day Bostonian opening @ $1.90 there is to no surprise the distraction of Lubaya " moving from 51 to 31 to 14 to 10. Trainer who I no reason to doubt say's its not my money. 2) Race 8 Hawkes Bay next best good thing for the day Andano.........big push from all directions for Vinevale. Today at Riverton Race Race 6 Absolute standout bet of the day HOOFBEAT @ $1.85............ from sunrise " reported" rivers of cash coming for ALL BLACK MAGIC moving from $15 to 10 to 6 ? Its a bit like the ole fella telling you all the fish have been caught down there and over here........... THOUSANDS GETTING SUCKED IN. NOW you know the odds ( O'h Yeah ) now beat them.

Isn't this the club that reduced the Nancy Cobain memorial in distance? Must have had Nancy turning in her grave. They are now probably bringing the middle distance back to make it more 'getable'. We will await the sprint going to 275m. Mind you if you look at it logicaly there is an argument that they are altering the distances to cater for the dogs racing. The problem with that is you keep going backwards till they will only race the length of the straight. For it is we have got we have got and it's no good penalising those dogs because not enough trainers are able or want to train styers Poor old Slim got an earful for stating in another thread that the biggest misfortune in dogs today is to breed a distance dog. We all know they are few and far between and that the only races run further than 700m are generally feature races. However have a look at this months magazine just as an example and there is not one feature race over 700m listed for C0 and C1 stayers and maybe one or two for c2 so Slim has some merit in his utterings. As Johnn0 has said on a number of occasions 600m races hardly count a s distance althought in the future they may be our marathons

The standards in this area have dropped significantly and in many cases been dropped completely. The TAB don't see it as a priority and thinks cost cutting should start with (or near) information punters get. Thats about the last place cost cutting should reach in my opinion. Unfortunately not many people share that opinion.

Not many people have horses named after them but Tony did. Tony Kaye was bred by the Kaye family in 1966. He was a roan colt by Byland out of Kaye Gilpin. He raced 12 times for 3 wins. He won his debut as a 2yo in the Otaki Stakes over 4f on the 21/9/68. He also won at Wanganui on the 8/2/69 and at Waipukurau on the 11/3/69. Fittingly all three times he was ridden by Kaye Tinsley!

I was having a beer after golf with a guy who was a guest. I asked him how his home club was going and he went on to explain all the work going on around his Club, new holes, new extensions to the clubhouse, new restaurant, new practice facilities etc etc. Very surprised I said " Fxxk me! Where's the money coming from for all this?". Without a pause he answered, " From our pokies". So asked him about the social impact of this ripping $ out of the local community from those who can least afford it and he just said, " Yeah, it is a problem". Need I say more? Pokies rip the shit out of the lower socio-economic communities and should be confined to Las Vegas, Alice Springs and other Deserted destinations - out of reach of such desperate communities.

  40. Oh God no ! Please someone tell me it isn't so. What a foul posting from this individual that a moment ago I had the misfortune to see on the Results Thread. Clear evidence of the gutter calibre of the individual. I'm sure there'll be a lot of people now reconsidering whether they want to take part in the Winter comp, because this individual is there. Many of us have standards as to whom we are prepared to associate with. This individual falls well short of those standards. Go for a hike Teddy. A long one. 3 years would be nice. In the jungles of Nicaragua. People there have less patience than we do.

  42. Thanks Howie. Always enjoy playing the Blues and you've had the wood on us the last few times, but today it was our turn for the breaks to go our way. Well done Canes - nice way to cap a good season. The statisticians are going back through the record books to see if any team has won 11 straight to take out the title. Mike & VS - outstanding comebacks today. VS - three from three in the play-offs - that's clutch!! Hesi & TC nice wins once again. I've enjoyed playing with you guys and look forward to no doubt locking horns with a few of you in the Winter Comp - suspect we won't be able to draft this same team. Peter - thanks - outstanding as always!!

  43. Well done John, Hesi, TC, Mike & Von on your comprehensive win today .... it doesn't come more comprehensive than 5-0 so an absolute drubbing for us guys. I can't recall the Blues having ever gone down 0-5 in PJ Super Comp history, maybe once possibly ...regrettably we picked the worst possible day to come up with not so much a de-planeing (sorry United Airlines, you're such an easy target) but more a de-winning ! We held our own on the NZ side of the operation, but to be honest Randwick had us completely flummoxed ! Absolutely worthy champions and Grand Final winners the Mighty Hurricanes. A top team effort for sure right through the comp. Other teams had individual heroes, but not through the five players. It's all about team and the Hurricanes encapsulated that perfectly. Not all sad for the Mighty Blues ...2nd of 10 is a very worthy achievement, we've had a ton of fun, and my team-mates Geoff, Gordy, Pete and Brian have been superb. Looking forward to hooking up with you guys again in the Spring. Mega-thanks to PJ for another super season of fun and enjoyment, to John as PJ's invaluable backup, and to all those many participants in the various teams who played with spirit and in the spirit, very well done, and thanks. Onwards and upwards. Enjoy the rest of your Easter everyone.

I have been a supporter of him and his family as he is a genuine guy who doesn't deal in fantasy. but basics regarding the thoroughbred world.Time has proven his philosophies and he deserves all the accolades and success of an Illustrious career.
