Rosie Myers remains in coma

NZTR
8 October 2020
Central Districts jockey Rosie Myers remains in Wellington Hospital following a fall at the Foxton trials on Tuesday.

Rosie was struck by another horse after she fell and has sustained head and facial injuries.  She remains in an induced coma, but all her vital signs are good according to husband William Fell.

William, and Rosie’s other immediate family, have been at the hospital since Tuesday and appreciate the support and positive thoughts they have received from the wider racing fraternity.

While we put the All Blacks and league players as tough/hard or whatever we must acknowledge just how jockeys probably beat the lot for courage putting themselves at risk day after day, week after week,I personally reckon a lot want gold medals for their efforts that in many cases aren't acknowledge by the general population.

No doubt Mikey, sometimes you feel like giving a few a kick up the ass and i personally have critiqued Miss Myers but everythings put into perspective when the shit hits the fan, its only money and would gladly see Rosie up and about over  a few extra quid in the back pocket. Godspeed 😧

Kelly Myers posted this update online:

"For everyone asking about Rosie..
She is not conscious yet but moving around a bit more. Once she can follow a simple command such as squeeze a hand and let go they can hopefully take tubes out and she will have surgery on her face.
Is very much a waiting game and we will keep you updated on any progress.
All your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated. We all know that what Rosie lacks in size she makes up for in determination 💪 she got this💓xx"

Kellys last update a few days ago

"An update on Rosie..
Not conscious yet but making some progress. Doctors took her breathing tube out yesterday afternoon which is good. Her breathing became extremely difficult, was touch and go re having to put it back in. Was hard to watch and I wouldn’t have thought anyone could sustain that sort of effort..  super stoked to get a text from Will first thing to say she’d made it through night unassisted and was much more comfortable💪😍#Legend
She’s got this, toughest little person I know💓"

Injured jockey Rosie Myers has shown significant improvement on Thursday with husband William Fell saying she was talking to family and understanding what was happening around her.

Rosie was injured following a fall at the Foxton trials on 6 October and was initially flown to Wellington hospital in an induced coma.

The popular Central Districts jockey was moved out of ICU last weekend and then on to Lower Hutt hospital where she had undergone facial surgery on Tuesday.  Until yesterday morning, the 33-year-old had not communicated verbally with family members.

William said that while she was “just like Rosie” the fact her face was still swollen and sore she wasn’t easy to understand, however he said she did appear to understand what had happened.

“It’s obviously early days but all going well Rosie will go to the Rehab unit either Friday or Tuesday,” William said.

“It’s just good to know we are going in the right direction – she is tough!”

William said he was planning to share a video from industry participants with Rosie later today.  The video came together thanks to Rosie’s good friend Sophie Baker who encouraged people to video their best wishes under the banner #youvegotthisrosie. The team at LOVERACING.NZ then compiled the messages into a video to be shared with Rosie, a short version of the video can be seen on the LOVERACING.NZ Facebook page.
