Pete Lane 947 Report post Posted February 28 Races 5 - 8 at Hastings today have been abandoned due to the state of the track. Â NZTR will look to find a suitable replacement date for the Gr2 Lowland Stakes and the 3yo SW+P 1300m races lost as a result of the abandonment. Ponderosa8 1,440 Report post Posted February 28 It was a really nice day here in the Bay, and then it clouded over pretty quickly and we had a really good downpour (out in Havelock North anyway) which lasted about 5 mins, its stopped now and the sun is trying to break thru again. They are the ones putting life and limb on the line and I have had communication from the track that under the circumstances the right decision was made. Perhaps if the meeting had started a few hours earlier than it did they may have got through the card.  MissJools, gubellini and canon47 2

I wouldn't want to be the person hwo has to ring the family of an injuried jockey and tell them that their loved one has been seriously injured and/or killed. Fingers crossed a replacement venue can be found for the Lowland and the other 3 year old race, and can be found quickly. nomates 4,512 Report post Posted February 28 So we have Otaki who irrigated up until the day before the races and, Hastings who stopped watering after Friday night , is one right and the other wrong ? or both right ? , or both wrong ?. Whatever the answer both tracks not up to running group races on , IMO . How many of those at last nights soiree at Karaka honestly think everything is great in the kingdom , or does the amount of money being poured into stakes override all other considerations . On stakes , Derby day on Saturday and not one full field , for all the big stakes on offer they can't get full fields . We're Doomed, Black Kirrama and chiknsmack

gubellini 4,337 Report post Posted February 28 mulebacker you are wrong. Jockeys don't get paid for the races abandoned. Owners and trainers miss out as well. The float fee from Waikato to Hastings would be about $700-$800 per horse. canon47 and scooby3051
