Hastings Abandoned

Recommended Posts

Rain was always forecast today in Hastings so lets Abandon ALL meetings where it might rain why even waste everyones time when the jockeys are going to pull the pin but still get their riding fees

The joke that is NZ Racing

Races 5 - 8 at Hastings today have been abandoned due to the state of the track.

NZTR will look to find a suitable replacement date for the Gr2 Lowland Stakes and the 3yo SW+P 1300m races lost as a result of the abandonment.

It was a really nice day here in the Bay, and then it clouded over pretty quickly and we had a really good downpour (out in Havelock North anyway) which lasted about 5 mins, its stopped now and the sun is trying to break thru again.

That is unfair blaming the jockey's. They are the ones putting life and limb on the line and I have had communication from the track that under the circumstances the right decision was made. Perhaps if the meeting had started a few hours earlier than it did they may have got through the card.

I don't blame the jockeys not wanting to ride on a track that is unsafe to ride on, as you say, they're the ones who put their lives on the line each and everytime they set foot on a racecourse. I wouldn't want to be the person hwo has to ring the family of an injuried jockey and tell them that their loved one has been seriously injured and/or killed.  Fingers crossed a replacement venue can be found for the Lowland and the other 3 year old race, and can be found quickly.

So we have Otaki who irrigated up until the day before the races and, Hastings who stopped watering after Friday night , is one right and the other wrong ? or both right ? , or both wrong ?.

Whatever the answer both tracks not up to running group races on , IMO .

How many of those at last nights soiree at Karaka honestly think everything is great in the kingdom , or does the amount of money being poured into stakes override all other considerations .

On stakes , Derby day on Saturday and not one full field , for all the big stakes on offer they can't get full fields .

They need to run the Lowland at Tauherenikau Sunday, surely

Perhaps but will the Northern horses want to travel that far on Sunday after travelling down to Hastings and back today and then 13 days later travel to Trentham for the Oaks?  Looking at the calendar there isn't a lot of options.

What a joke what was all the blurb they put out a couple of weeks ago..what a load of bollocks the track is Donald Ducked but it is not alone in that respect...pour all the money you want into stakes but if the tracks are stuffed what's the point...its almost to the stage where there is not a decent track left....but hey things are good just keep the blinkers on and charge forward.

Ellerslie has issues as do 95% of all other tracks in the country...most are stuffed.....and some decent ones are not allowed to even hold a meeting...blind leading the blind.

Good point. Summer races could easily start 11;30 or midday. Connections could then all be home at a reasonable time.
