    Forbury Finale

SAD SAD.....but also a disgrace to all those who did not have the grey matter to find a better solution . Its done now but I am watching the demise of good solid areas of trotting lovers and supporters being decimated. Places like Dunedin and Wellington could have become entertainment hubs for the community and been economically viable . with a bit of cooperation instead of the slash and burn policy.

I haven’t seen the race but with what the esteemed two posters have said it doesn’t surprise me that they are at odds with officialdom. It seems to me (after a lifetime of involvement in the game - at every level) all those in a paid position should take stock of their position, look elsewhere for employment and let real people with skin in the game take control again. Galileo Dies at Age of 23

News here this evening of the passing of GALILEO at the age of 23. The stallion suffered a debilitating foot injury and was put to sleep this afternoon (UK). As a racehorse, GALILEO was a champion as a 3-y-o, winning the English and Irish Derbies and the King George before being just touched off by FANTASTIC LIGHT in the Irish Champion before ending his career by running sixth in the Breeders Cup Classic. It's as a stallion however that GALILEO will be remembered. His most successful sons include FRANKEL, NEW APPROACH, RIP VAN WINKLE, NATHANIEL and WALDGEIST to name but fiv

  7. Racing ,as in sport and life , sees ones level of incompetence kick in. The data is there are a lot of slow horses and horses of lesser ability that just can't compete on premier or feature days. The Super club is still a couple of years away so a lot of detail still to be finalised , like Avondale's role and what courses will host the main jumps races. The current plan talks of up to 40 meetings at Ellerslie , with say 8 of those run by Avondale . Currently Ellerslie has about 20 ,Avondale 8 and Counties about 10........assuming Avondale is a very cash-rich club the stake

I often watch videos of races when a jockey has been suspended and Race 1 at Counties has been confused. The horse Me Liberez ridden by M Hashizume was involved in an incident at the 900m.The charge was easing the pace abruptly. I waited for the Stewards vision before making an decision on the charge. After viewing the alleged charge,I am of the opinion that Masa was very hard done by being found guilty. What i believe was the he was easing from a 3 wide position into a 2 wide position,he look inside and eased into the running line, the rider of Borri Hyde contributed to the inci

  9. What about his earlier drive on Spellbound. It drew 7 and was soon in the One One . Brave effort to run a game 3rd thereafter .

  10. I was an apprentice chippy working on the Ascot stand,. Vuksich and Borich did the site works. The city end of the Ascot stand ran into live rock. An old Dally opened up a big fissure and to test and the Ellerslie fire brigade came with 2 hoses. The ran water for hours. Thats where the stormwater from the Ascot stand goes. Remuera, Ellerslie, Mt Wellington is all on volcanic rock and Ellerslie course is in a basin. Never going to run out of water.

  11. A split second either way and places may have been different but basically the best horses finished pretty much where they should have. The only surprise was the $21 price but the Purdon expertise is still alive and well.

  12. Great training performance by Nathan Purdon. Horse had not run since Jewels and naturally driven a treat by MP. 2nd and 3rd horses went superb given their respective runs.

  13. Just a reminder a significant European race this coming Wednesday - the Grand Prix de Paris. This is traditionally run on Bastille day at Longchamp and marks the end of the spring/summer phase of the French season before everything shifts to Deauville for August. As a race, the Grand Prix has enjoyed a big upturn in fortune since the Jockey Club went from 2400m to 2050m a few years ago. The Grand Prix de Paris is in essence the French Derby if you believe Derby races should be run over 2400m - it's an early Arc Trial as well. 12 have been entered so far but there is a fina

  17. It doesn't, but nor does the controlled access option. The only difference is that the controlled access is an inconvenience for customers and staff. I've spoken to staff at three outlets and none of them think it is a good idea.

  21. Top lot today was LAAFY, a son of Noble Mission, who went for 105,000 guineas to Mark Campion racing. He's been gelded (the horse, not Mark Campion) and will go jumping. Closing statement from Tatts Chair Edmond Mahony: “The Tattersalls July Sale has long been recognised as Europe’s premier midsummer sale and this week's impressive set of figures have yet again confirmed its status. Perhaps more importantly than figures alone, it has also been a sale with a real sense of business returning to something resembling normality. We cannot make meaningful comparisons with last year’s

Like to know where that idea came from. None of my data suggests that there is any significant difference in ability between a Saturday winner and a Wednesday one in NZ. Do you have data to the contrary?

  23. Looking back to Day One of the Newmarket July Festival and a thrilling finish for the Princess Of Wales's saw SIR RON PRIESTLEY hold off the challenge of odds on favourite AL AASY who travelled up to challenge 600m out but just couldn't or perhaps wouldn't go past. I wasn't entirely convinced by AL AASY's attitude at Epsom behind PYLEDRIVER and again I wasn't sure he went through with it though to be fair SIR RON PRIESTLEY was the winner of the Jockey Club Stakes (the equivalent race early in the year on the other Newmarket course) and clearly goes well on fast ground. 24. 19 go in tomorrow's July Cup over 1200m and it looks a cracking renewal. Twelve older horses face seven 3-y-os who get 6-9 lbs weight of age from their elders. Starting with the older horses and while they raced again on quick ground this afternoon, heavy showers and storms continue to be forecast this evening and overnight. IF the ground stays fast, Duke of York winner STARMAN looks a worthy 4/1 favourite - he won well on the quick at York and could well be the new kid on the block. He won't find it easy against last year's winner OXTED who represents the small stable of Roger Teal.

  25. It was certainly an impressive performance - MAXIMAL was fourth in the St James's Palace and ONE RULER was sixth in the Derby and he handed out a beating to both on levels despite being 7lbs "inferior" according to the numbers. If you take MAXIMAL's run literally, BAAEED would only have been a length off POETIC FLARE at Ascot - the latter is now rated 122 so BAAEED should be mid-110s at least but ran off 104 yesterday. He's a full to HUKUM who is a stayer but this one seems to have more speed. The dam won over 2000m and you'd be confident BAAEED would get that. His only entry is the
