Suggested Solutions.

Every 2nd Sunday from May - Sept starting at 1pm conduct 6 jumps only races (or Am's if insufficient numbers) alternating between Northern & CD venues currently in use.

Modernise the jumps & make them transportable between the venues & look at the safety options used in the UK

Add a 6 race $50k pick6 jackpot that continues until struck at jumps only venues.

Add a buy in bonus programme for Jumpers, that incentivises owners, trainers & jockeys.

Safety, remove all fences in the last 400mtrs on the last round.

Promote jumper rehoming success stories better.

Too sensible.

Out of the negative there should be some positives. If they go then they go, never to return.

Clear heads needed here to revamp the jump racing and to promote it with a positive vein. All is achievable.

Oppurtunity has been tabled, let’s grab it

Ignoring the effort of those in the Sth who showed they wanted jumps shows the goal already was in works by club committees etc who've etched away at demise.  Top execs should stick to 1 code & do it well instead of dipping in more & spreading their load too thin.  As most things these days it's all about the dirty dollar.  Shut jumps & those as myself who haven't already, will walk away from what we've loved most

Meanwhile the $40K open 1600m at Te Rapa on Saturday has been scrapped. There were still only 4 entries after noms being left open intil 9am this morning.

5 starters in the 45k open 2200 at Riccarton today. Programming remains all up the wop with countless horses balloted and eliminated at Woodville on Sunday.

AUSTRALIA leading the way as usual.

Dear Jumps Racing Participant

With two meetings left of the calendar we are looking forward to seeing you at Coleraine this Sunday for the Great Western Steeplechase followed by The Ecycle Solutions Grand National Steeplechase at Ballarat on Sunday the 25th of August.

The AJRA have been made aware of the current consultation period surrounding jumps racing in NZ.

We are in full support of jumps racing continuing to operate in New Zealand. Read the full article HERE.

We hope to engage with NZTR and RV during the consultation period to see how we can assist.

Racing Victoria have communicated the following with participants.

"Jumps racing is a unique feature of the Victorian racing calendar in autumn and winter. RV’s commitment to the sport has been underpinned by appropriate safety standards and industry support being maintained.

All within the Victorian jumps racing community are committed to making the sport as safe as it can be and have worked hard to do so across the past 15 years since major safety enhancements were first made in 2010 before being improved again in 2019 with new technology.

As we do each year, RV will conduct our annual review of jumps racing at the conclusion of the 2024 season in consultation with the AJRA and other key stakeholders. This annual process reviews a range of metrics and operations across the previous season and begins planning for the next.”

Would that mean we could have a Great Northern carnival at Ellerslie? Maybe a jumps slot race?

The future of jumps racing in Australia is set to come under the microscope in the wake of a season which has seen a spike in horse fatalities and a downturn in wagering turnover.

Victoria is the only remaining state to conduct jumps racing and it is a loss-maker at a time where racing is facing hugely challenging headwinds with turnover.

The average turnover per jumps race in Victoria is roughly half the average turnover per race for non-black-type flat races.

After implementing safety enhancements, the average horse fatality rate for the last three completed jumps seasons in Victoria was 2.33 (seven in total).

However, this season, which is yet to be completed, has already recorded four horse fatalities in races and another two fatalities in trials.

It comes at a pivotal time for jumps racing in Australasia.

This week, it was revealed the future of jumps racing in New Zealand hung in the balance and Kiwi racing bosses were including industry participants and even punters in the process of deciding whether the code should be wound up.

New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) issued a consultation paper laying bare the facts on the struggling discipline.

As jumps racing in Victoria comes increasingly under the spotlight, interim Racing Victoria chief executive Aaron Morrison told News Corp that RV would not be following the "public and social inquiry" path than the Kiwis were adopting.

Morrison conceded jumps racing was under scrutiny but said the process of RV's annual review would be the same as previous years.

"It's the normal review undertaken by Racing Victoria with the AJRA (Australian Jumping Racing Association) looking at a range of data and making a decision in the normal course," Morrison said.

The Ellerslie racetrack IS NOT suitable for jump races, which is why they no longer have jumps racing there.  The Steeplechase fences have been removed, and the big hll was sold off.

Yes, it looks like a stunning development. I'm buying a house there overlooking the course where I can watch the new portable jumps course in action along with the slot and sweep stake races.. I'm not sure why a brand new turf course wouldn't be suitable for jumps racing though. Although to be fair, so far it's not been suitable for racing at all.

Thank you for sharing. Just goes to show, if you spend too much time betting at Mildura you miss what is happening on the country circuit in NZ.

I assume hll meant hill. There may have been a big hall that was sold off I suppose.

The woke wankers in Victoria - where else - These pricks are in power everywhere - .Next they will ban racing entirely - that is their plan. The gutless management who dont stand up to the political pressure

Racing Victoria do it every year

If you read the article they say they aren't going down the same road as NZ

NZTR to Consult on Future of Jumps Racing (loveracing.nz)

Does anyone have the Template for previous years / historic consultation documents?

Why is this 'consultation' survey/ questionnaire for Online users only?

Where is the Democracy?

Do we still live in a Democratic society?

Rule of Law one would expect to apply, and that all those who may have an interest would be involved and included in Consultation processes and included

This includes those who attend Racedays, Trials, visit horses, school children who may have their own horses to ride in rural areas where they may not have access to reasonable internet or even know such a survey exists - they after all are our Horse related sector industry and should be included together with a Paper and Pen format document circulating in libraries and other Public places and not just those who have an Email or internet access who are more likely to have knowledge such a consultation is in progress.

Has anyone seen or heard if they have people walking about and asking Raceday attendees if they would like a paper copy of the Consultation form to file out and send it is?

Using Online only Consultations is as useful or useless as Professor Susan Michie's trail of silliness and destruction of the cohesion of society as much of her research Consultation works are with Machine Learning Online and a serious failure to factor into account Geographic and other factors of access and day to day living..

Her legacy inflicted on society include but not limited to  her roles in Speed Humps, Speed Limits, Wash your hands programs and those Food Waste Rubbish Collections - you know those silly Green Mini Bins.

If you know others who don't use a computer or are not addicted to the internet, print off some copies and invite them to also put in submissions, because without those people also providing their voices, the industry is only getting further munted by a Failure to provide due process Democracy.

Racing Victoria has announced it will conduct a full-scale review into the jumps racing industry.

Led by the newly-formed Jumps Review Group, the review started this week and will take a broad-scale look into a variety of aspects of the sport, including the future viability of jumps racing.

Former Supreme Court Judge and former Victorian Racing Integrity Board Chair Justice Jack Forrest will join the JRG as an independent member, with the Group chaired by RV's Executive General Manager - Integrity Jamie Stier.

The JRG will pass its recommendations to the RV executive by the end of November, and the RV executive will then provide the report and recommendations to the RV board for a decision by the end of December.

RV said the JRG will also take submissions from all parties as part of the process.

The wide-ranging review will see the JRG investigate and consider the following:

  • Findings of the Jumps Review Panel from the 2024 season;
  • Applicability of any broader equine welfare research, findings or data to inform jumps fatalities and jumps injuries to participants and horses:
  • Analysis of trends relating to starters, field sizes, wagering and industry participation rates;
  • Review of club and track infrastructure, including analysis on future durability of racecourses and availability of racecourses (including transfer of meetings) for jumps racing;
  • Analysis of optimum track rating and achievable track rating;
  • Analysis of horse engagement and longevity, and additional career opportunities provided by jumps racing;
  • Analysis of the contribution to track riding ranks of jumps jockeys;
  • Analysis of the financial performance of the jumps industry for participants. clubs and the Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Industry (VTRI);
  • Analysis of community participation and attendance at jumps racing events and broader economic benefit of jumps racing:
  • Analysis of available research or reporting on the level of community acceptance of jumps racing and its impact on the broader appeal of thoroughbred racing; and
  • Any analysis, research, resources that the JRG considers necessary to complete its report and recommendations.

RV chairman Tim Eddy described the safety record across the 2024 jumps season as 'unacceptable'.

"The events of the final meeting at Ballarat were heartbreaking for all involved in the Victorian jumps racing community," Eddy said.

"Many people have worked incredibly hard to make the sport as safe as it can be and had achieved marked improvement across the 14 years prior to this season when we took a backwards step.

"To that end, in addition to the work done annually by the Jumps Review Panel, the Board has commissioned a wider review to be led by Jamie Stier that will take a detailed look at all elements of jumps racing in Victoria.

"The Jumps Review Group has been asked to consider, among other things, participation rates, industry support, community attitudes, financial returns, the safety record of the sport and the measures in place to promote safe racing.

"This thorough review has commenced this week and its outcomes will be informed by the process with no outcome off the table at this time."

Any parties wishing to make a submission for the JRG to consider as part of its review, must do so by Thursday, 24 October via [email protected].

Wow!! That's a big turnaround in a couple of months. Obviously Ballarat's big jumps day has not helped the cause

 After Warrnambool's successful carnival everyone was saying next year's going to bigger than ever and even talking bigger prizemoney.
