  1. Would it there be a general trend that horses with a records like 2 wins in 30 starts - R65 types - would have a much narrower range of winning distances than say better stock
  2. If Pakstar wants to kick it off have a sledge at me - I will sledge him back, or do the forum rules not apply to the regulars
  3. Well its a square with tight turns and a short straight - I wouldnt think it would be friendly to back markers - its best feature is the hotel
  4. My last post on the race pace of hastobeawinner was useful for me to read the replies and probably a few others found it useful to - Just dont read me posts crapstar - It is a public forum tho it operates more like a closed club alot of the time
  5. I used to clean up at Ellerslie but not since the upgrade - Whether the up hill incline is still there from the 400 or the new synthetic surface Im sure I would out perform your ROI PakStar
  6. With the exception of Butterballs Major major//El Vencedor// Led - Wolfgang/Provence bo th in First 1/3 of the pack - Not one horse came from the 2nd half in 10 races
  7. Watch the races - 90pct are won by those near speed even when they are running decent splits - - This was never the normal pattern at Ellerslie regardless of the pace
  8. Formerly the best track in the country for back runners to come over the top in straight - Now Race after Race you have to on speed or near speed or you're toast They have changed the very character of Ellerslie Very few closers manage to bridge the gap on the leaders no matter where they start their run. Meet after meet Such a shame
  9. Seems promisjng i will check for awhile if worthwhile maybe i can roll my own i got data coming out my ears thanks
  10. Grasshoppersan one must watch 1000 races before the student even understands the question. Going to the keiba it was more fum watching the japonaise than the ponies
  11. I backed Bella waters in the last at Ellerslie yesterday being a big track and straight and good for horses coming from the back However Hastobeawinner took an uncontested lead , slowed them down, making it near on impossible for the back markers to close So no banana for bella How can you get an indication of what the likely pace will be - as this determines most of the result? 1/ Having a couple a horses who always want to lead would help I am aware of the running style of the horses - tho they can lead on some races but not others maybe depending on their barrier 2/ A big field 3/ A trainer putting in a sprinter into the field where he wanted the speed on I suppose I could start digging around the 400m times but applying that is another matter How do youse experts get a handle on the likely pace ??
  12. Having reviewed the head on I can see that stolen decree did clearly cross into Mdme Giselles running line. So for the first time in my life, I was wrong
  13. If its ALL about safety then Abandon the meeting when the surface is rated Good and rain is forecast for the day of the meet - That will get rid of 1/3 of summer meets And everyone will be happy - I doubt - But dont waste peoples time and money getting the horses there when Again and Again ang Again they pull the plug on such surfaces Funnily enuf these didnt happen 20 years ago. RIding is an inherently dangerous occupation - you can only mitigate risk so far -Most recent deaths were due to horses being smashed or bad luck -not from the riding surface
  14. Rain was always forecast today in Hastings so lets Abandon ALL meetings where it might rain why even waste everyones time when the jockeys are going to pull the pin but still get their riding fees The joke that is NZ Racing
  15. "Regarding Legarto the other night - with a new track possibly favouring front runners in a speed " It seems most races favoured on speed - Dont tell me the great Ellerslie swoopers track has been changed in nature - this would be a tragedy
  16. Wouldnt touch it - but you can stick to your pokies
  17. Well perhaps Giselle had interference but I will wait till the head on video is released On a wider issue I know I shouldnt question the integrity of racing - as it is as honest as the day is long and punters should never dare to question this In the words of those more wise than me : - Allan Thomas - "Looks like the favourite missed the kick again" I ran this comment across a sample of 5000 races across Australasia and yes indeed when a horse was fav it was far more likely to come last out of the gates than when it wasnt fav especially in the lower grade races - Obviously the horse knows he is fav and gets nervous in the gates Yes there are plenty of ridiculous favourites and things go wrong in in race but there is also plenty BS that goes on in this game - the list is long Darren Weir springs to mind the greatest of Aussie trainers - Yeah right - How many years did it take before he was finally revoked I will remain cynical
  18. Dont think it was that bad but the head on will tell .
  19. GIselle had the splits and times to take this 1600 Race out comfortably today at Riccarton. Punters spruiked. price crashes from 7.5 to 3.5 And surprise surprise the jockey stands up in his irons at the 200 M cause thats how you make a horse go faster No doubt the Pitmans will return the favour with one of their swerves in the coming weeks No doubt the stipes will be examing the run very closely - yeah right
  20. Apart from the lack of communication from the barrier staff about man in front or the starter being deaf why do they destroy the chances of 12 horses in a 1000M sprint because 1 horse was left in the gates Instead of the 1 horse who missed his shot lets screw up the runs of 12 other runners by restarting the race when they have run 600 m Dont abandon the race let them run But ohhh no lets restart it for the one horse and screw the other runners which make up 90pct of the field Totally nonsensical
  21. Is the Ellerslie straight still uphill after the renovations ?
  22. Is there any substance in a comment that at 1600 or 1400 for that matter a horse that is a good closer would perform better moving from a two turn to one turn track for the same distance? I often hear trainers talking about 2 turn vs 1 turn races for their horses
  23. Fantastic - I notice he Gets well last by Lengths in many of his races before monstering them. And he appears to be struggling them wham its all over. Quite a showpony really
  24. Why was it abandoned on this fine day - Slippery I suppose is the usual reason. Meets are abandoned so commonly these days They probably pull the safety story - Well the last 2 deaths on the tracks were nothing to do with slippery surface Taka died on a a synthetic track when weatherly pulled out into him The Ashburton death was due to crowding . the track was dry Why are midweeks abandoned twice as often as Saturday Meets ??? One solution they get paid for riding - no ride no pay
  25. They have been putting detailed sectional up on the NZTR website for about 12months - I think it comes from formpro
