Seems pretty reasonable to me. Owners, trainers and Billy retain their prizemoney and the beaten lot get paid out.

Everybody should be pretty happy with that outcome. Punters might feel differently.

Why would punters feel differently?  Presumably they factored in Pinn’s claim in their selections.  Does 1kg make that much of a difference vs the skill of the jockey?

If you had backed one beaten by a Pinn mount you might feel a little miffed. Everyone else got paid out didn’t they ?

Does the whole thing seem a little OTT to anyone else?

A difficult situation.  Some of Wiremu Pinn's winning rides were by a margin and had he been claiming 2 kg they would have still won.

The connections of the second horses have received a hollow victory. They did not see their horse win, missed out on a bet, not much fun watching a replay of your horse running second and the horse has probably gone up a grade and may not be competitive.

When looking at all the horses that he rode that were disqualified, the finishing position shows it as (for eg)

21 days 3rd up NaNth of 7

Any idea what the "NaNth" is abbreviated from?

NaN stands for "Not a Number". When a computer expects something to be in number form but it isn't, it returns NaN. The "th" is what it would expect to put after the number (if it sees a 4 it returns "4th", a 5 "5th", and so on).

Billy is coming back to NZ this week to ride on days 1 & 2 of the NZ cup carnival at Riccarton, a good boost to our jockey ranks during one of the biggest weeks in our sport.

Not day 3?
