    • Wow. You go away for a few days and you come back to revelations like this. Well done Barry.
    • Well that was bloody poor , ride did nothing for it but showed nothing , not getting any of mine again .
    • I have my doubts about that, I might need to spend a few hours/ days reviewing the numbers for this season.
    • Maher stable today….   Randwick Kensington (NSW) Race 1 – Invisible Magic She has been thereabouts all prep. Unlucky not to have broken through for a win yet but if she can travel well in the run, she has the chance to measure up. The 'Data Ferrets' feel she can get a win too! Race 4 – Crimson Miss Third-up today and makes her first appearance in town this prep. Has found a suitable race to get a city-win added to her page with the good draw and claim of Anna Roper. Race 5 – Epic Proportions & Negotiations Epic Proportions is fourth-up and desperate for a win! This seems his race to lose and will get all the favours from the inside draw. He gets the tick of approval from 'The Panel'.Negotiations is on the quick back-up and was much better last time out. If there is a good tempo set, he will likely benefit and come rattling home with a good run. Race 7 – Lady Boss Has had a largely frustrating prep without winning. Comes back to mid-week grade and will likely use the inside barrier and keep out of trouble. She is the favourite, will be on speed and would be great if she can finally breath through for a win this prep.   Sandown (VIC) Race 1 – Smother Has come down from New South Wales in search of firmer tracks. He gets that today on a soft surface and will be sure to improve stepping up to the 1400m. Race 2 – Exit & Life After Love Two exciting two-year-olds take their place in the second contest. Life After Love has had two starts in Victoria and closed off well last time out at Caulfield over 1000m. She is drawn well and the step up to 1300m will likely suit. Exit is first-up and has jumped out extremely well this time out. She is the market favourite and in for a busy Spring if she can run up to her ability! She has the backing of both Reece and the 'Data Ferrets'. Race 5 – Hazel Baby Was much better last time out at Sandown finishing third in a similar contest. Strips fitter again and will be peaking third-up. Race 6 – Vienna Vixen Never runs a bad race! Drawn a sticky barrier but has the pilot to get her into a good position. Despite not winning last two starts, she is in super form and deserves a city-win against her name. Race 7 – Jennivamoose Very similar setup to her last start win. Same grade, distance and barrier but without the services of Harry Coffey through suspension. Blake Shinn steps in for his place and is eager to hold off a hungry Craig Williams in the Metro Jockey Premiership. Race 8 – Juja Kibo Has been building towards a win this prep. Stepping up to 1800m and drawn well, he has to be considered a good chance of breaking through for his maiden Australian victory.
    • Personally despite all the hot air floating around about tracks  in the South, I think, probably very little will change in the near future, they all have their purposes Ashburton can't take any more, Timaru and Oamaru probably can, Cromwell ain't going anywhere in a hurry, and being dual code tracks it's not all about gallops, Southland need all three, strangely probably the best track, climate wise, Winton is no longer gallops despite harness racing a dozen times or more a year, I've always maintained Blenhiem should be back on board, easily run a good North South meeting, the track is still there,( harness). Racing ain't in that badder state South of Cook Strait, if the Northeners want to poach some of the feature races, the Guineas etc etc then just replace them with another., they can have all the big races in the North but rarely do southerners go there, unless they have a real good, one, enough good racing closer to home. As for what they do in Auckland, that's their issue as long as any funding for new projects comes from within their own area. The area that seems to have  the most issues is CD.
    • Reverting back to topic, venues, first i think as an industry we need to take a step back and decide what we want racing in NZ to look like in the next 10yrs, 20yr, 30yrs. Some heavy questions need addressing like: 1) Do we race 12 months of the year or do we take a month off in middle of winter (like Hong Kong). A month off would mean we don’t bash up our grass tracks as much, the hard workers in the industry can get some down time, etc 2) Does jumping survive or cut - if so, it has a big impact on venues needed 3) Do we want to compete with Australia, or work in with them, e.g our summer racing calender to be our main focus or not 4) Do we need 2yr old racing before Xmas, or do we condense that until the back 1/2 of the season.  5) Do we shift to tier racing (like Au) or keep the scatter gun structure we current have 6) What is our priority, Pattern racing or NZB driven sweepstakes style I feel the biggest reality check that people need to understand is if the industry is to survive, we can’t do what we have always done, and more importantly we can’t do everything. Something drastic needs to change and yes there will be casualties, but it’s reality and we need to redefine what our industry is to be.
    • Sorry about disjointed post. VENUES IN THE RACING GAME SNAKES AND LADDERS……MORE SNAKES THAN LADDERS BUT WE need TO GET IT RIGHT FOR OUR RACING FUTURE.
    • As far as Christchurch goes, my plan would be Sell Addington, worth zillions. New harness track inside Riccarton Turf Relocate Casino to Riccarton Members stand level 1 Joint governing body with Casino, Harness and Thoroughbred on board under an independent Chair. Seems to me consolidation vital, particularly down South

    • There is something wrong somewhere , 10 races at Oamaru and could have split a couple . Then between Rotorua and New Plymouth there are 17 races where 10 of them have single figure fields , a couple with only 6 runners . I do believe that NZTR have to come out and explain their rationale with the way they run the SI calendar and programs .
