Winstons big announcement...

Recommended Posts

So our esteemed Racing Minister will be making a "significant announcement" on Karaka Millions night....we wait with baited breath....

- Government will distribute millions in largesse because they love Racing ?

- Govt assistance will include funding of new Strathayr tracks at Ellerslie and one other location....???

- New initiative race - "The Mount Cook"  - limited to 12, entry cost $500,000. Purse $10m...??

- Saturday stakes minimum of $25-30,000 ???

- Tax relief for the Industry, a reduction in Govt tax take on betting....????

- Infrastructure Fund - Clubs can submit plans/costings for infrastructure upgrades for funding assistance...????

Any odds....???

O'man, just like Tax and Mental Health, they will be organising a Think Tank/Enquiry/Working Party that will tour the country getting input from interested parties. As the fecund one says about any future policy "nothing will be off the table". I sincerely hope my cynicism is misplaced.

Is that what your beloved National were proposing!  NO?

Anything will be better than what they did for the last nine years, so don't try and create something that has no hope of being announced.

I totally agree with your last sentence above.

However if you want to mock Winston on what he may or not say or do beforehand, then you are open slather in my opinion, and mock him was what you were trying to do.

insider do you really believe he will do anything of relevance

What is wrong with you morons ?

What the hell has National got to do with it ??

We just need the Racing Industry going forward and not stagnating. If Peters can do that, then kudos to him.

All well and good O'man but while Winston might, on behalf of the Government, subsidise stake money, how are clubs going to maintain that level with falling attendences, falling breeding numbers and falling betting turnovers. No industry (read business) can survive indefinitely on handouts without bringing in measures to be able to stand on its own feet and the racing industry is doing precisely nothing to help itself in that regard at the present time.

How the fuck would you know what I was "trying to do" ? You a mind reader now ??

I put up some possible options, some unlikely granted, but all are possible. We'll see.

Why should the Government do anything for racing?

Perhaps Taxinda is going to announce that they are going to build social housing on 20 racetracks and pine trees on the rest.  The profits to be split between child poverty and the thoroughbred breeders.

Yes I do, based on what he promised last time in government (with Labour), and what he did.

If he can only get 20% of the NZ First Racing Policy (see Hesi’s posting above) past his coalition partners it will make a positive difference.

Not long to wait now, as come the weekend we will find out one way or the other.

On another subject, I note that your posting was done 11 hours ago, yet it only showed up now.

Winston doesn’t need to give the industry money, he only needs to give NZTR a great big kick up the arse.

What we need firstly a fucking strategy document with some attainable goals, a five, ten, fifteen, and twenty year plan for the industry.

Secondly we need tools to use our assets to facilitate point one, as a code we’re so wealthy, but we’ve got no money because the morons at NZTR waste everything on stakes.

<Urgently review the operations and costs of the New Zealand Racing Board> This part of NZ First's Racing Policy would be the easiest, fastest and most effective start. A drop in costs of 15% would provide a lot of funds annually for direct benefit to the Industry. When takeovers happen in the Corporate World, the first thing done is a thorough review of the costs, especially back office functions. Winston should get that underway immediately. He will achieve one of two things by doing this. Either he will find additional funds or, he'll  put to rest an assumption many many people have, that there is a bloated, expensively run NZRB/NZTR in place. He's on a winner either way.

What charlatan Winston did last time was help the big breeders get fatter and wasted the equivalent of a Strathayr track on $1m races.  Given who are the closest advisers you know the ones that made the big donations and gave the chopper rides do you really see anything different happening this time?

But then Insider as a chardonnay socialist you don't really care about the rank and file industry participants do you?

Karaka will show the duplicity of Taxinda - ironically there will be free-to-air coverage for the children in poverty to watch the $1m year old horses being sold.  Note the coverage stops when the rank and file turn up for the 3rd tier sale where a fair proportion of the horses head to the knackers truck.

im abit sceptical about peters, (sorry),his track record tells me ,,,there has to be something in it for me { peters } , like front row seats at all prem meets, and probably a top up from the tab, how yould you no, its not about giving millions ,there needs a complete over run by the clubs, they need to work together.and find a solution.

Do you think the previous minister of racing would have had any interest in front row seats at all premier meetings? I actually think its quite good that the minister actually likes the sport.

Winston is not going to upset the apple cart too much. Think about it' when he's acting PM his salary goes to it's highest level in politics and I bet at the end of this term he will retire on a govt pension for the rest of his life, with free travel and all the perks. He's no different than the rest of them ,his nose will be in the trough and the tax payer will still have to foot the bill. This seems to be the main purpose most are in politics, last three terms and ones future is set.Beats the standard pension.

I wonder what his interpretation of "urgent" is....
