I thought the interesting race was the rating 65 1,300m. 7 starters for $55,000. How on earth is that sustainable? Half that field wouldn't get a start in an $18,500 rating 65 in the SI.

There are people out there who thing everything is great because some stakes are high. I just can't see how the current model is sustainable. Where does the money come from? Certainly not from turnover. And looking at the coverage from today, obviously not from gate takings. And not much sponsorship either.

I can only assume there are some very clever people running things who have things under control. Obviously there are income streams that most of us aren't aware of.

The only extra income streams that I can see are from Entain's apparent largesse, taxpayer generosity and capital from the sale of assets.

George is a Warriors fan and definitely not a fan of The Beautiful Game as he clearly has not heard of Casemiro.

He doesn't seem like a horse racing fan either as he clearly hasn't heard of 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo.

Must be some special members eh!

Was it supposed to be like a precursor to the Karaka Millions Night?

Just wondering?

I imagine at some stage NZTR will release the oncourse turnovers for Kumara, Trentham and Ellerslie this weekend. It would be good if someone could put them up when they become available.

A bit like the 4 horse race, would people like to try and predict what order the 3 clubs will finish in. Possibly throw the Nelson trots in as well, just so it is a true 4 event comparison.

No, I wasn't there today but it was a fascinating day's racing.  Note how 5 of the 8 winners were sired by Australian bred stallions.  Why do they have a trifecta pool AND a first four pool on races with four runners?  Tale Of The Gypsy looked good at Te Aroha.  An above average two year old but no champion.  Put on a $30,000 1400 maiden and only get 9 runners.  South Island trainers would look on in dismay.  I am beginning to have a lot of respect for Checkmate.  Hakkinen, who looked so good at Matamata;  is he another "paper tiger"?  That Hasstobeawinner is getting better as he ages.  Some of the Vadamos stock are like that.
