  1. Two groups to be drawn and published on Tuesday or Wednesday. At the end of 7 weeks of pool play the top 4 pairs in each group will progress to the Championship quarter-finals. Teams placed 5-8 in each group will progress to the Plate quarter-finals. Remaining teams will play-off for the Bowl.
  2. Format will be the same as in previous Pairs comps. 12 races, in each race you can either pick two horses ($10 each way on both plus $2 quinella) or you can pick one horse and have $20 each way on it (and forego the quinella). In each Pair vs Pair match during pool play there will be 5 points split between the two pairs and each pair can earn a bonus point, meaning a maximum of 6 points to be earned by either pair. The 5 points are from the following match-ups - each player plays both players in the opposing team: Team A Player 1 vs Team B Player 1 Team A Player 1 vs Team B Player 2 Team A Player 2 vs Team B Player 1 Team A Player 2 vs Team B Player 2 Highest pair aggregate and a bonus point if your pair earns $1,200 or more. Final group standings will be determined by total points earned, and if total points are tied then by total dollars earned.
  3. 14 pairs and 10 individuals for a total of 38. Two more to make 40 would be perfect. Peter RS & Lucasduke Say No More & Kloppite Scooby & Blaird Pete & Richie Insider & Montydrum Toddy & Pegasus Black Kirrama & Gubellini Ponderosa & Al Feilding Houlahan & Pheroz Pure Steel & Right First Time Alf & Aaron Stoyd & Thelad Reacher & Nomates Hall & Camacho Ohokaman Jack Catalano Kilcoyne Basil Brush Foxmerts Manfield Floyd Pink Winner Double R
  4. Shaping up well. 13 confirmed pairs and 7 singles for a total so far of 33. 40 would be an ideal number but can manage pretty well with any multiple of 4. No sign of our defending champions!?
  5. and just a reminder - our top four pairs from the last comp: Chiknsmack/Koriokaramea Pete/Richie Ponderosa/Al Feilding Pheroz/Houlahan Will we see some or all of these pairs reunited?
  6. Comp anyone? We're going to run a comp over the remainder of the summer and through to the end of the Sydney autumn carnival. 10 Saturdays from 14 February to 18 April. The Spring Pairs comp was quite a popular and competitive format so we're running with something very similar. Pairs will be split into two groups and we will have 7 weeks of Pool play followed by three weeks of play-offs (knockout). More details to follow but please register your entry on this thread. I'll look to confirm pairings, groups, match-ups by next Wednesday or Thursday so would appreciate entries registered by Tuesday 10 February. You can enter as a Pair or you can enter as an individual and be paired with someone else via a random draw. Hoping to get 40 entrants (20 pairs) at least.
  7. I really have no idea with this, eg. which yearlings are likely to be 2yo types, but here is my roll of the dice. Lot 33 - Pazienza Lot 114 - Shanzam Lot 147 - Special Memories Lot 152 - Spritz Thanks Liz
  8. Please note, Liz considered whether the rules should be changed from previous years such that any yearling could only be picked by one entrant. For simplicity reasons Liz has decided not to make this change. You can pick yearlings that have been picked by other entrants.
  9. Ok Liz has proposed we run the same competition again for the coming year - same rules, same prize, .... How it works 1] From the recent (2026) Karaka yearling sales, pick FOUR horses that you think will make the 2 year old Karaka Millions field in 2027. 2] If they do, you get 10 points for each one that does. 3] It one of your picks runs 1st: 30 points, 2nd: 20 points, 3rd: 10 points, 4th: 5 points and 5th: 2 points (on top of the 10 points for making the field). Most points wins - first Prize $100 bet sponsored by Liz. Any tie for first will be split by: - most runners in the field; then - who had the winner; then - who had the runner-up; then - who had the 3rd place horse If the tie is still not broken then the prize will be split. If no one picks a horse to even make the field, the competition is null and void. Posting deadline - last day for posting selections is Friday 13 February Please post the Lot # and the Dam's name eg. Lot 8 Noisy Lot 102 Save The Date ....... If a horse makes the field (ie. listed in the race field and included in the barrier draw) but is subsequently scratched, you will still earn 10 points for that horse. This includes any ballots.
  10. Congrats to Jack and Gubellini who share the prize with He Who Dares finishing second. $50 bet for each of you. Single bet (win, place or each way) Post it on here and/or message me. Please give me enough time to get the bet on.
  11. My favourite 3yo filly was Nimue. Saw her win the Lowland at Tauherenikau. 1000 Guineas win was special and was there for the Bayer Classic win at Ōtaki which was pretty good too - that was when the Bayer was a top notch race.
  12. Sorry to correct you but your best bet was in Race 2. Go back and read the first post in this thread again - particularly the really large font and the very small font at the end.
  13. Results - Race 6 - Final race Our leader going into the last, Demophon was on the winner but got rolled by comp regular Houlahan's Dream who landed a very nice single bet best bet to take first prize. Another comp stalwart Idolmite matched Houlahan's effort in the last race to round out the podium spots. Congrats to both Houlahan and Demophon who win the $100 and $50 bets respectively.
  14. Results - Race 5 Some horse that! Not much change at the top. Demophon takes a $26 lead into the final race but PKR has two different picks and Fredd still has a shot with a best bet in the last.
