Do we need to go back to less midweek race meetings. Racing is becoming a  bore with wall to wall racing its just like being married to the same partner for a time and you need to spice it up so its something to look forward to.

Very good advice, anyone who gets into racing for the money, are barking up the wrong tree, if your lucky to have a win or two, the first question most non racing people ask, is how much money do you get.

Steve have to agree the food they presented was a bloody embrasment which they offered to the guests, if finances are a problem I would suggest they find a sponsor. They need to come Christchurch to see what the guests are offered.

Not sad in the slightest. Your post was about Troy apparently but suddenly it was about Jamie Richards. You need to keep a balanced perspective. It's all a bit like Waller , Godolphin and others. . Ingham gave Waller 60 blue bloods to get started and TO WALLER'S CREDIT he made the most of his opportunity.Gai Waterhouse inherited a dynasty and carried it on, with a clientele established by her father. Used to hear about that "self-made" man Robert Sangster who was worth 100s of millions. Bugger off, inherited Vernon's Pools from his father. Same with Jamie Richards,  a well-established, successful operation dropped in his lap and he is making the most of it. Good on him.He presents very professionally. The way some of you go on about the ABILITY of trainers who have unlimited resources is not keeping it balanced. There are dozens of participants in our industry who are champions, but don't have the luxury of infinite resources .

Would agree with that Tim except the stake money for the horses finishing further back than 5th is taken from the stakes of the first 4 horses. It's not new money and the value of winning a race is much reduced. It's like communism actually. Take money from people who have earned it (with having the best horse) and give it to the poor (who have mug horses that can't even keep up)

And most of those bludgers get free entry, free booze, free eats, don't punt, wouldn't know horses are herbivores and all the cost comes off the Club/Industry top end that all the mug owners pay for! And to rub salt in the wound we get all the inane verbiage from the well-paid Rodley, Sweeney, Guerin, Popperwell, etc. (Must be well-paid because Guerin now a major owner!) Only one I rate is Steve D and he is under utilised. IMO

Talking of ownership, return on "investment" etc, I saw Jamie Richards interviewed after You're Welcome won at Matamata today and he was ''"very pleased the horse won as it had some important owners".(some league players who are also in Te Akau Shark). Would have thought "unimportant" type's money was as good as anyone's when it came to sustaining the industry so comment pretty crass. In my unimportant opinion!

Time wasters. People have nothing better to do with their time. If you didn't hear it with your own ears, see it with your own eyes then don't repeat it with your big mouth. Keep on keeping on buddy.

From what I'm told and despite the club's protests when race dates were granted, more than 12 months ago, it was out of their hands. It all comes down to the Racing Board and TAB only granting two licences in the North per day and being able to supply Trackside vans and staff to cover these meetings and allowing them sufficient time to make it to subsequent meetings on the next day etc. I suppose it's only fair that they get Xmas Day off and not have to travel that day.
Cambridge were only given one meeting licence but were ensured that they would be allowed to run as many races as necessary in order to cater for all the scheduled heats. Had there been enough dogs for two heats of the NZRS Distance then there would have been 15 races. Same applies if there had been enough dogs for another heat of either, or all of, the Waikato Classic, Cup or Maiden there could have been 16. 17 or 18 races. So no real difference anyway.
Whilst in previous years there was two licences granted but only 10 races were allowed on each licence to a maximum of 20 races in total.

Just get rid of the trackside presenters full stop does anyone really take note of what they have to say, and the after race interviews they can be very long winded at times the jocks would be happy.

Isn't it good to watch an "old style" genuine not irrigated firm track where all horses get their chance
I can't believe it is taking our track management so many years to realise it is the use, sometimes over use, of irrigation that is causing our problems. I made this comment in an extended interview with Andre Neal some 29 years ago. That irrigation will be the ruination of our racing and everyone knows I still stand by that comment!!

Questionable and the very next sentence covered that as did an earlier sentence as reposted below.
Downside is that there are less grass roots participants earning prizemoney so the likelihood is that some get squeezed out therefore the participant pool is reduced.
They have broken no rules but it is questionable whether it is good for the long-term survival of the sport especially in a relatively small country like NZ.

Come on dont keep us all ln suspense put a name to who it is . My guess it may be an ex CD kennel employee. Which wont be a bad thing as the northern region dog numbers have stagnated. If it wasnt for the likes of Opawa/Coles suppling dogs to northern kennels Auckland/Waikato would be struggling to fill certain grades.Punters HQ would of seen  an oppturnity to send dogs into the northern region.

bus stop reacted to Rules For Some in What the
With the current rules in place in NSW and Victoria, numbers have decreased dramatically in the last few years.
It has really hit NSW and Victoria hard. Many meetings are reopened for one or two days at a time these days.
I understand sprinters going to NZ. Unless you are a small hobby trainer having some fun or you have one of the top 5 best sprinters in the country, they are not viable to keep in Australia. Better of sending them to NZ where they can make 30-50k.
Same goes with middle distance dogs in NSW, if you can't compete at the top 5 or 6 tracks in NSW, these same dogs will make 20-30k jumping between c1-3 in NZ.
I remember sending a dog that made 3k in 30 races to NZ a few years ago. Made 35k jumping between c1-3 races over 100 starts in NZ. Could never have made that in Australia.
From a financial perspective, NZ is ideal for many of these dogs that aren't good enough in Australia

Again after talking to Greg yesterday...its not the small trainers that are causing the problem...its the kennels that bring dogs over with 2 tickets and then  they get 12mnths and disappear ...I think there 1st move will be banning dogs with 2 tickets...and I think they will judge this on what they do from now on......most australian classed...so called .non chasers I have had have not gone to gap...they still live here....piggy back...magic spike ...lady shambi...royal doll who threw derby winner grizz and Peking tom a good sire in his own right....swiftfantasy....redneckcrazy...nonnas girl who was a super broodie.. throwing blitzing mayhem  NZ cup winner and never throwing on any bad traits to her pups....she would be dead if I never bought her here as would the rest off them...then you have a dog like reilly's mate...super dog that would not have been givin a second chance.....in fact I've had one I couldn't change and that was robius hagrid......I've had to put down more of my homebreeds  because gap failed them..

Have always had the opinion that Reece has been under valued as a  jockey his talents are wasted when sitting at home with no rides at most northern meetings. Always worth a dollar eachway.

Corey. If the club had identified that the track was not fit to race on Thursday then they should have called off trials yesterday. I would imagine if I had been trialing a Pinny Mack or Bigtime Paddy and they had broke down when the club knew the track was unsafe I would be after them like the RIU after a trotting driver. ( I could have remained with the dogs and said like the RIU after a greyhound trainer but that would be far too slow and ineffective)
Steve makes a good point that who is the expert that makes these call's. With all due respect to your Dad and the stipes. I think they could be questionably qualified but good onya for sticking by Dad.
One of the most experienced people with track management at Cambridge would be Peter Henley and he was telling people the track was in good order and great to run on
