Matamata R3 Tomorrow Ladylou looks tidy over more real estate, looks to be better with a firmer surface but good enough to overcome a tricky track...26/7.5 dont have to put much on

This ones been scratched a few times since this post but finally getting a start today.  4yo mare first up over 2000m doesnt usually excite me but Cody Cole is good at having them ready - just a watch today Gruffy?

Both of ours were in tomorrow but I see Reasonable has been scratched, don’t know why at this point. Deserved win last start, she tries hard.

That leaves Until Valhalla at Eagle Farm $10/3….wet track will suit but she can’t keep missing the start like last time…..:rcf-monkey:

Will give Brynderwyn another chance at Matamata R5 . Rooke back on and $31/7 great value.

My final full day in New Zealand today as we start the long journey back to Blighty tomorrow.

To see me off, there’s a chewy midweek offering at Riccarton which illustrates the strength of South Island racing - at least the quantity of it with large fields and unseasonably soft ground following the recent rain.

It’s what I call a Beefeater card - very small stakes (you have to have lived in the UK in the 1970s to understand that reference).

One has jumped out at me down the card

Race 7: NORTIBUTNICE

Goes on soft turf and has a decent each way shout if you can get on at 10.

Thanks for putting up with my dreadful tipping the past three months. I have a record of all my selections including the ones I didn’t post and I’ll see how much I would have lost to a level $10 stake.

What’s your GDP?

Safe trip, Stodge - and I hope you enjoyed the piece of NZ you were able to see!

Thank you, Pam. Yes mainly round Hawke’s Bay and a couple of weeks on the West Coast. Next time we are going to come to the Waikato and hopefully Southland.

With Hastings closed, I’ve not been to a single meeting and have had to deal with watching Trackside.

It's probably a safe bet that the track will dry out quickly with a forecast high of 28.

Safe trip home Stodge.

Interesting yesterday the well favored runner lil zena at riccarton, paying 5s, interview with the trainer about 5 minutes before the race, and she says just giving her a run without knocking her around, looking towards her next start, a bit late for those punters, which didn't include me, but must peeve some off.

Speak of the devil, this in the paper this morning from James et al, about Orchestral:

While it sounds almost disrespectful calling high-quality races lead-ups, that’s the reality, with horses targeting the Champions Day on March 8.

The $9m raceday is one few people in New Zealand racing have really got their heads around the enormity of yet, even though it is only two weeks away.

The horses contesting the Uncle Remus on Saturday could be racing for 30 times that stake in the NZB Kiwi, the Avondale Guineas contenders race for five times as much in the Derby and even Orchestral and El Vencedor will be racing for double Saturday’s $500,000 stake in the $1m Bonecrusher NZ Stakes on Champions Day.

“That is why we chose this race, yes because it is a Group 1, but also because it is the best possible lead-in to the Bonecrusher,” says Robert Wellwood, who co-trains Orchestral with Roger James.

“Obviously we would love to win both and we think she can still win this week because she has definitely come on since winning the Aotearoa Classic.

“But she is also probably ideally looking for 2000m and that could be tricky in this race where she might get a fair way off her main rival El Vencedor.

“I see him staying handy to a likely leader in Belclare and having a big head-start on us, so whether we can run him down might come down to tempo and also maybe how handy we can stay.”

Orchestral has been notoriously relaxed bordering on lazy in the early stages of her races and Wellwood says while they would love to see her settle midfield outer on Saturday, they are not counting on her changing her natural racing pattern.

Still paying $4s/1.55 on fixed odds Thursday arvo.....

Saturday @ Ashburton Harness. ⚓

🔹️R3 Newbiemains Arden.
I have tipped this out before but she hasn't had much luck especially with draws!
Can come off the gate nicely and draws 2.
Opened at $10 but has come right in with 2 significant scratchings and is a great chance in this lineup!
 🔸️$4.20FW

🔹️R7 Audacity.
This horse loves a bit of distance and gets a shot at 3200m this time!
Won at Motukarara last prep over 2810m and has loves the standing starts so will make short work of his 10m handycap.
🔸️$4.20FW

Might be worthwhile chucking both In a fixed win multi.
🔸️$10 for $176.40.

Good luck. 🙂

A few from the black book today:

Ashburton R5 - Betty Spaghetti

Counties R5 - Who Rox The House

Counties R8 - Both Lord Of The Sea & Chaource (yes we go again!)  Getting $8.25 blending these two.

Side thought: Not often we have 5 domestic meetings in a day across all 3 codes.  Pips going to be busy in todays Sunday session!

How did you go David. I was 1 from 1. First time I tipped here but doesnt seem anyone noticed?

Not great mate. Three placings at nice odds, couple of unlucky runs. Will follow Autumn Mystery. Uncle Barry scratched today.

Nice picking with Lucy. Won well and looks above average. Yet another from the Lindsay barn.

Nice card at Pukekohe, think the James/ Wellwood team might have a decent day.

R1 Avoriaz $8.50

R3 Hephaestus $4.20

R4 Wolf 21 $6

R5 Bannen $2.60

R6 Osteria $4.60

R7 Zormella $6

R8 Chaource $16/4 - step up to 1500m should suit, looks great value on best form.

Bummer to see Who Rox The House with another unlucky run.  Cost me a 4 figure multi return but cant complain - $18 earlier for Lord of The Sea

Good win that, locals got plenty - George Rooke double of $61 made up for the others. Ready to sack Chaource though….
