Agree actually PS. Think the mile is better so if not today, next time.

I see they have Chaource 4th up starting in a 1400m again.  Perhaps the Rogerson team forgot this R63 mare was only 3L behind Positivity and Qali Al Farasha in a 2100 last year...

Can still win that PS. Grylls sticking is a pointer, just needs to be ridden closer. Firmer track might help too.

Goldiluxe the interesting one with Spratt getting off Emmy Dazzler. She has a good strike rate for David Greene.

Yes an interesting card at Waverley. Last two particularly tricky.

R1 Prochester - big class drop. Shockiff wins one soon.

R2 Dramatic Miss

R3 Shacktime - the half to Kawi well backed fresh. Improver.

R4 Eizus - Lovely Friends

R5 Sevenayes

R6 Coulthard

R7 King Incanto - no reason he can’t step up. Smartroad, Betterbeyou and Sunset Boulevard for multis.

R8 Brynderwyn - flew home ar Te Aroha then stepped up to 1400 on firm track last and didn’t finish off.  Soft track better.
Prefer Rooke to Lily but can win.

Omega Boy and Linara include in Trebles and Quaddie.

Power cut in the area of Waverley racecourse means a delay to racing.

Not sure you can blame the Club, the Stewards, NZTR or Entain for that.

Don't think anyone is Stodge. For those that were unaware the Waverley township which is rather small is roughly 3km south of the racecourse.

Do they know what caused it?

A digger?

Shoe thrown on the Copper lines?

Or vehicle accident?

Have they established where it happened?

Or will it take months to find like today's day and age Fibre Optic subsea cables?

They put overhead lines up for a reason and fibre dug into the ground & wireless just doesn't cut the mustard, does it?

All the best for a great little Club.

We all know who Waverly Star is and hope the school teachers and children do to as children are our future generations of our sector.

A few thoughts on the Waverley action which ended up on a Good 3 and it certainly looked nice summer ground.

PROCHESTER came from last to first and was just too good in the opener, having run in Listed company last time. Further should help and he relished the quicker turf.

DRAMATIC MISS landed the odds in the second - she didn’t impress me but will no doubt come on for the run. The other two fancied fillies both shaped with a lot of promise - TURN IT UP missed the kick as she did at Otaki and was last early before running home well for third but I was left thinking she’d not progressed much from that first run. MISS FIREBALL was well fancied but looked green and got caught up in the scrimmaging in the straight as the winner came through. She’s certainly one for the notebook.

JUST CHARLIE needed all of Lily Sutherland’s persuasion to get home in the fifth. The traditional Kiwi mid race slowdown probably didn’t help but what a versatile horse with wins from 1600m to 3000m and fourth in the New Zealand Cup last November. Could he win an Auckland Cup ?

Another good day at the office for Mr Grylls who booted home a treble.

I confess I didn’t but the 1986 Japan Cup form takes me back to the days before the emergence of Japan as a racing superpower.

A British 1-2 with JUPITER ISLAND ridden by Pat Eddery held off ALLEZ MILORD ridden by Greville Starkey. Eddery and Starkey were two of a golden period of UK and Irish riders in the 1980s but both gone as are Walter Swinburn and Lester Piggott. Of that period, only Willie Carson and the American Steve Cauthen are still with us - in a way it marked the transition between the traditional jockeys of old and the athletes and media savvy riders of today such as Dettori and currently the likes of William Buick, Oisin Murphy and Tom Marquand.

Lily had a shocker on Brynderwyn. Had no hope from back there but they did run 1.22 so perhaps not wet enough. He will keep.

Coulthard another with not much luck either.

Friday and it’s off to Te Rapa for a well contested summer card and it’s a competitive enough card for the punters.

As usual, I offer my selections to avoid in the way the Titanic failed to avoid the iceberg.

1.08: ST GILES

2.17: BANNEN

3.27: PUZZLE MASTER

3.59: MODELO

smashed in late to $3.4 and I lost the lot. Got help up for *!'*^ sake

Apologies Blaird. I don’t know how much of this thing I own, but it’s a bloody lot ! 😳

Awful ride from Grylls, never got a real shot at them. George Rooke showed him how to do it.

It needs 1600m + now so hope they have something in mind soon. When did Rogie win a race last ???

No need to apologise, she is a horse I have been following and will keep doing so. Has a nice race in her at some point.

Unlike Grylls to get it wrong but the best get it wrong sometimes, seems to be when I am on though.

seem to recall he fluked one with a  Ferrando maiden not so long ago at decent odds, but Maxi' short term memory may be an issue here ...

The Rogerson Stable bought  plenty of yearlings this week so hopefully hoping for a massive comeback in a couple of years time.

Liz is too old to be investing at that level, which is about the age of Graeme, but Deb is obviously a lot younger hence I guess the obvious optimism for the future.

😊

Don't know how big the comeback will be , aren't they selling the Hamilton stables , downsizing I presume .

Had a quick look at the Te Rapa action. SABRINA STAR was very impressive in the 1400m but her previous run had suggested the penny was dropping and she was too good for BANNEN. SABRINA STAR looks to have plenty of improvement in her.

AMYER STAR was equally impressive over 1200m and was too good for my each way fancy ST GILES who should find a maiden on this evidence. The winner was having her first proper race after a couple of trials and clearly looks another with potential.

Another to bolt up was MISS MADRIDISTA who pulverised the opposition in the 1200m R65 and is clearly going to have to play in the R75 grade from now on if not higher grade.

The card rounded off with a fourth impressive winning filly in PAX MUNDI who won well under George Rooke in a race where CHAOURCE, to be diplomatic, wasn’t given the best of rides. The winner ran too free last time and this was a much stronger effort promising better things.

Apart from Chaource obviously, who must get some luck soon, a couple of others to follow.

Avoriaz - very good run over 2100m fresh, with a bit more luck would have gone very close.

Deadly Desire - came from a mile back, improving type.

Skiddly doo - ran on well at Ruakaka and did the same at Te Rapa. Wins one soon.

Bertie Wooster - gave Sam a terrible ride overracing yet was still not far away at the finish. Wetter might suit.

I always get a little antsy when one keeps flying at the finish. Once is fine and I’ll excuse anything which has no luck in running (unless it becomes a habit) but if a horse runs in late over 1400m, they get put up to 1600m and the same thing happens, I start wondering why.

If I were running NZTR and it’s only a matter of time, I’d can a lot of the 1400m and 1600m races in favour of more races at 2400m and further but I know that’s the last thing TAB and Entain would want as they want to maximize betting opportunities and you only do that with more and shorter races.

Perhaps their pedigree, conformation and/or training regime combine to make them stayers, not sprinter-milers?

What irritates Max is seeing a middle-distance horse stepping up over more and more ground and continually 'running on' into a minor placing or midfield!

Example yesterday ...No Plan Be (4th)
