It sure was but what about Trav ? Poor connections if it had gone away with the field would have pissed in

Not sure if you can say the same about KOMOCEAN in the second - the horse got very lit up in the stalls and blew the start.

A travesty Charlie. Must have missed it by 10 L and got beaten 2.3 L.

Lucy then took off too early and covered all that extra ground, Wolfgang came from behind it, and was still powering through the line at the end.

I thought Sam Spratt was superb yesterday not so much on MERCHANT QUEEN who clearly relished the better ground but on OPPENHEIMER in the first which was a lovely ride from the front. The other jockeys gave her plenty of help but you could call OPPENHEIMER the winner at halfway.

On an average Sunday card nice to see British jockeys George Rooke and Kevin Stott both getting doubles and both continue to progress.

Was impressed watching the young Chinese girl riding at Pukekohe yesterday . Nicola Yuen

Shes ok but like many are restricted by riding instructions .... not sure what Rooke was told pre race at Tauranga on Amazonia but it made it easy at 10s at Puke with Stott on....on that note an equally average ride on Alaskan proved this Horse looks a force moving towards 3yo fillies Staying races...26s in the oaks looks nice value

Rooke did nothing wrong, just got held up on the inside with nowhere to go. Was surprised he got off it,  as was John Bell….🙄

Wednesday at Matamata and a big change in ground conditions from a Good 3 to a Soft 6 so a number of withdrawals and the early betting markets not perhaps the guide they can be.

Another chewy low-grade midweek card when we remember there are many more slow horses than fast ones.

I’ve found three for you to consider or avoid.

2.45: BORN TO BE ROYAL

5.05: ASTARTE

5.46: KINTARO

BORN TO BE ROYAL could be the best horse on the card if he can handle the ground. I agonized over the sixth as I came to the conclusion none of them could win. Hopefully KINTARO can build on a reasonable debut - he’s now $16 so into each way territory for the sharks.

I bet George had a change of pants after riding Dealt With

One of the runners seemed to slip coming round the home turn in the last race at Matamata. Looks like jockeys and officials are going to have a look.

Racing to continue - let’s hope no further incidents.

Listening to Trackside 1 - sounds like the jockeys were happy to go on but the stewards thought the area couldn’t be avoided so called time.

This will be an interesting discussion.

Well it takes the "jockeys are pussies" out of the discussion .

It's a new set of protocols , not used much and this is a different curve on the usual .

So essentially there should be no need to have jockeys input until the stewards have made a decision .

The interesting thing to me is that the track was a S6 with just 4.5 mls of rain leading into the meeting , 10mls applied yesterday , with regular irrigation on every day leading into the meeting .

Rail out 7m today at Matamata. Absolutely ridiculous. If it was out only 3 or 4m that horse wouldn't have slipped- it wouldn't have been as wide as it was. The thing about irrigating is that if it is done in windy conditions there is not an even spread of water- may have been a soft spot wide out where that horse slipped?

Interesting that Chris Waller has sent Konasana over for the Westbury Classic.

She would be right in it particularly if the rain arrives.

Wasn't it you Hokey that suggested Interpretation was going to give all the Kiwis windburn in the Wellington Cup? Maybe our local fields are full of undiscovered champions 🤣

What I found interesting in that race was Warrens jumped on Jaarffi over his mrs runner.  Must make for interesting conversations at home.. 😄

There was a rider though Idol….”if he could handle the weight…. “

As it turned out, the way the race was run ( slowly ) didn’t help him much either. Don’t drop just yet.

Fair call. I just remember the "windburn" comment, and while l didn't see the race l was hoping he was carrying a good winter coat as it'd probably have got pretty blustery as all of the Kiwis swept past HIM [assuming he got near the front at some stage?] 🤣

Was it just a hit & run mission?
