Should have been smarter with their money. Investment options are numerous. They should never have had to sell off the one thing that made that course so very very special. Now its just another right handed track........except it injures horses.

Coincidence? I always use the El Chico model on track states, a Horse Uneasy always said had 'sore legs 'yet ran more SuB 1.08 1200s, 1.22 1400s and 1.33 mi les than any other , not to mention the quick back ups and raced to a grand old age In doing so.

Agreed. Surely the other plots of land could have generated revenue sufficient?

All this aided by our pliant racing media, too close to the clubs, jock, trainers to rock the boat.

Cheerleaders, not journalists.

You are absolutely correct Scooby not only on Karaka night but also before that I know one horse 8yrs never had a leg or lameness problem in his life fractured a leg this week at a jump out and had to be euthanised he had pulled up sore after racing at Ellerslie was vet checked and cleared to carry on but it does leave question whether that was a result from the race at Ellerslie. Also another trainer has said to me that they are not to keen to go back to Ellerslie after there horse pulled up sore after the 2yr Karaka Million had also been sore after lead up gallops on the same track, that horse did finish in a place.Like Scooby have heard of many horses that pulled up sore.Something is seriously wrong and I hope for NZ racing that it can be fixed. There seems to be more horses sore than when the Synthetic went in at Cambridge .

Yes I believe the horse you are referencing is Packing Rockstar???

Imagine if they have a multi million $$$$ white elephant...now won't that be a story.

They do at the moment don't they? Just a question of what is needed to fix it. The sub-structure and drainage etc is presumably fine. Just the turf layer is fucked and everyone knows it.

it seems its overall too hard, even with watering and rain they cant get it away from a Good surface, then something is definitely wrong. Sha Tin and MV are always affected by rain...seems strange this is so different.

They desperately need it the overhead shots of Te Rapa today showed it was in bad shape too...simple answer is we dont have enough tracks for the racing they are asked to do.

That track today looked very threadbare from above but it has been hammered . They wouldn't want it to rain next week , could be mass scratchings , a sad state of affairs if it doesn't turn around in a reasonable time . Te Aroha is still out as well , seems we can't seem to relay a track here .

Yes. Te Rapa seemed to ride ok but gosh it sure did look shockingly patchy from the overheads.

All the major tracks seem to need major overhaul now including Ellerslie. Let's hope they get it right at Awapuni and yes, we definitely don't have enough tracks even with all those fixed. They won't last long.

I’ve been thinking.

Every racing administrator that we have had come over from Australia, has been a major disappointment even though they came with much fanfare.

After the new Ellerslie “track performances” am wrong in thinking that it’s all happening again?

Having said that, generally speaking  “their tracks do outperform ours” so maybe, just maybe, we go to “their well” once again and try “just one more time” to get “another import” to sort out our Australian imported problems!

Sorry, I have just woken up! That was all a dream.

How often has Manawatu racing had to rely on Foxton for trials and even trackwork opportunities? So many of our provincial tracks prop up the city in their catchment area. Looks like Foxton has copped a lot of use lately especially with Awapuni being out of use. Imagine that Foxton track with 5% of the funding that Ellerslie received to produce an absolute lemon.

If 'Big Al' is featuring in your dreams I think you need to go and see a specialist 🤣

Give Ellerslie a chance for gods sake, it needs to be used, have racing on it, maybe trials, it needs to get bedded in….

I don't really understand what "bedded in" means. I heard Wilcox say that a month or two ago but Strathayr say their turf can be ready for racing in a matter of weeks after laying. It sounds like gobbledygook to me. Hong Kong certainly didn't require that and if it were necessary, why did they hold a major meeting on it (or any meeting for that matter) before it was safe for racing?
