    • The NI punters bet mainly on SI horses (see earlier post), presumably because of the bigger fields etc. But if there was no NI harness racing, we jeopardize the 49% of turnover those punters contribute nationwide. We do need to encourage ownership (= more horses) in the North. So we need reasonable stakes and handicapping. But those new owners will not magically appear.  I believe HRNZ (and the northern clubs) need a different approach than in the South when marketing harness racing to multicultural Auckland.
    • How is the North Island going to match the South? They have Less tracks Less horse numbers Less grass track racing Smaller fields Smaller number of participants Main harness track in financial trouble You would have to fix all those things before turnover is increased and at the moment it is all trending downward. How do you fix any of those quickly without a miracle happening?
    • Precisely! So that is where we have most potential to grow. The same Roadshow presented data that showed in the 1st 6 months of the current racing year, NI had increased turnover on harness by 10% above that of all forms of wagering whereas Canterbury and the Southern regions had 2 and 3% increases respectively. So something is working (Friday nights?).
    • From my point of view, punters/viewers want to watch their horse at all times. Swapping from normal coverage to drone, back to normal, makes it rather annoying to see how your horse is progressing. It's not needed and it adds very little. Drones are only cool when shown post-race with a massive crowd cheering them home down the home straight, which isn't a common occurrence in NZ, let alone at Trentham.
    • I didn't mind it - and it is pretty useful in harness racing watching them go off the mobile. The concept is actually decent for getting us up closer and personal, but I think we may have had a lower end presentation of what could be delivered.... eg,.. https://www.google.com/search?q=drone+horse+footage&sca_esv=9d16c235b1eb3eaa&rlz=1C1RXMK_enNZ1047NZ1047&udm=7&biw=1745&bih=859&sxsrf=AE3TifN9qmVnAZhdGeyiOUtj8ivO0mZn-A%3A1751365049691&ei=ubVjaIj9Kdeu0-kPl7vngAo&ved=0ahUKEwjIvaKdt5uOAxVX1zQHHZfdGaAQ4dUDCBA&uact=5&oq=drone+horse+footage&gs_lp=EhZnd3Mtd2l6LW1vZGVsZXNzLXZpZGVvIhNkcm9uZSBob3JzZSBmb290YWdlMgYQABgWGB4yBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMgsQABiABBiGAxiKBTILEAAYgAQYhgMYigUyCxAAGIAEGIYDGIoFMgUQABjvBTIFEAAY7wUyBRAAGO8FSJAsUABYuClwAHgAkAEAmAHyAaABiB6qAQYwLjguMTG4AQPIAQD4AQGYAhOgAs4ewgIEECMYJ8ICCxAAGIAEGJECGIoFwgIKEAAYgAQYQxiKBcICCxAAGIAEGLEDGIMBwgIOEAAYgAQYsQMYgwEYigXCAggQABiABBixA8ICBRAAGIAEwgIOEAAYgAQYkQIYsQMYigXCAg0QABiABBixAxgUGIcCwgIKEAAYgAQYFBiHAsICCBAAGIAEGKIEwgIIEAAYogQYiQWYAwCSBwYwLjYuMTOgB9ltsgcGMC42LjEzuAfOHsIHBjAuMTEuOMgHPA&sclient=gws-wiz-modeless-video#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:49399da9,vid:OGjykEwwL40,st:0 Sorry - it didn't paste as it usually does, but click the link to see a great example
    • Winny running at a rate of 4 I's per minute - not full speed for him, but up there... It's funny how he changed his tune so much from the Opposition view point, to something he inherited but is fixing for us 🙄 We should be thankful for such an expert guiding us and thinking this is what 'fixes'  the industry - FFS Unless anyone else can shed some light on other strategies from the right and honorable?
    • Agree. And see how the horses were handling the inclines. I'd particularly hate it there.
    • Remember the stock truck loaders used to use the cattle proders, can ever remember any of them being banned, im sure they don't use them these days, probably just ask them nicely to board the truck off to the works.
    • i like the one you've got better than this
