New "3 Up" comp - entry thread - Sat 22 April

Recommended Posts

Phil (Alf Riston) has come up with an idea for a new comp, and I like it so we're going to trial it this Saturday, and if it goes well and others like it, we might run a longer version over a period of several weeks.

Phil has picked out 10 races that run within a relatively condensed timeframe (a turbo type comp), and Phil has randomly drawn three runners in each of those 10 races (see Races and runners in the next post) - Heads, Tails and Odds.  The objective is to pick the first of those three runners past the post.

Each Runner has a designated reserve (also randomly selected) in the event of the first runner being scratched.  If your original pick is scratched you can stick with the reserve or you can switch your pick (before the posting deadline).

Scoring is as follows:

5 points for every correct win
5 bonus points for the entrant with the longest consecutive string of wins (5 points to each entrant in a tie)
5 bonus points for the entrant with the longest consecutive string of wins from Leg 1  (5 points to each entrant in a tie)

You will have three Best bets to double any win points earned in those legs.

Races and runners (drawn at random) for Saturday are as follows:

Posting Deadline is 2.45pm

Table above updated at 1.00pm for late scratchings.   Both Pukekohe races 8 & 9 impacted.  If you picked Heads in Leg 5 you can change your pick before the deadline, and in Leg 8 if you picked Tails or Odds you can change your pick before the deadline.

You have to pick one runner - Heads, Tails or Odds - in each of the 10 races.  You have Three best bets.

Please post Heads, Tails or Odds (not the runner number).    Your entry might look something like this:

Leg 1:  Tails
Leg 2:  Odds
Leg 3:  Tails
Leg 4:  Heads  BB
Leg 5:  Odds
Leg 6:  Tails  BB
Leg 7:  Heads
Leg 8:  Heads
Leg 9:  Odds
Leg 10:  Tails  BB

This means in Leg 1 you have runner #3 (Tails), Leg 2 runner #16 (Odds), etc ......

and a few other minor things:

- in the event of both the runner and the reserve being scratched, the drop down rule to the next 'available' starter will apply.  If the next down is already allocated, dropping down and restarting at the top until a runner is found.  Drop down will start from the reserve's number.  I will try to post revised runners and reserves on Saturday morning after scratchings are posted.

- if two of the runners dead-heat as the best finisher both will earn 5 points

- the same entrant could win both of finish the bonus point categories - best win streak and best win streak from Leg 1 - they will earn 10 bonus points in that case.

- in the unlikely event all three don't no points will be allocated for that race and it will be null & void from a consecutive wins perspective (ie. it won't break a win streak)

- because it's a trial this won't count as an RC ranking event

- there is a chance we have a tie for first.  Any tie for first will be split by:  most consecutive winners picked from R1, then most consecutive winners picked across the whole card, then most winners picked on the day.  And if still tied after that we will have joint winners.

Any questions or clarification required, just ask.

Agreed, LIttletramp!

Can;t say that I put in even 5 minutes of study coming up with the following but, hey, my record in RaceCafe comps when I did put in such study isn't exactly earth-shattering, ha:
