thanks Pogo, I wonder if anyone has the video of the auckland cup win from 78 yards. I did have it and lent to someone and it has now gone..there are spectacular images on these cardy images esp addington and the wayville "saucer" . but my favourite race of all time his win over best horses in nz from 78. I was there as a 16 year old and became a trotting addict that night that I havent cured some 54 years later !

Greyhounds appear to be to be a tight organisation with a few key players. why s there no public auctions as in australia of young dogs so new "blood"can get involved. often the question is asked how much does a dog cost and how much s training? Of course the first part would be determined by a public auction and like horses can range greatly.  trainers may like to give a guide here.I personally like greyhounds having been brought up with trips to kumeu and mount smart in auckland . Hatrick is great for Whanganui but lots more owners would bring more atmoshere and turnover.

In regards to the training reference you make, its surely no secret that its actually not difficult at all to TRAIN a greyhound as you have pointed out...however it is very difficult for a novice to prepare a greyhound and present that dog to the races 100% SOUND and INJURY/NIGGLE  free in order for that dog to run its best possible race for you...this "mastercraft" takes years and years of practice to perfect and some are leagues above others at carrying this out....in my opinion the countries leading/top trainers are the best because they have mastered the art (through years of practice) of checking over dogs properly, its not easy to detect some injuries and being able to do this effectively gives you a huge advantage, you can not only start treating the injury at an early stage but your knowledge has given you the ability to detect it before it potentially "ruins" the dog.

both ak reactor ,160live foals andsir lincoln through good marketing 86 foals will both need to up their game as 1 or 2 reasonable horses in their first crops leaves a lot of disappointed owners who may look elsewhere this season. similar crosses to successful stallions is agood feature but sires are individuals and seldom have even full brothers to top stallions proved worthwhile. In the 60and70s nz imported a large number of very close relations totop stallions and most were disasters. as mentioned above by 2piper somebeachsomewhere is creating a real buzz with his progeny so I would get some friends in and share the cost of going to him for a real chance of breeding a great horse. (although his service fee would appear optimistic at 13500 when compared with other proven sires)

I like your style Jason. You are prepared to say what you feel at the time both with punting and commentating and as comments and tipping man. as you have continued experience in your role but also as an owner and trainer you are worth listening to. getting some punters a good % It is only a theoretical guide anyway !! Keep up the good work.

I think you have a slightly blurred view on what my job is.i am employed to call races. From time to time im asked to go the extra mile and provide quaddie and pick 6 selections.
    Unpaid i might add.
My instructions last thursday were to select a winning pick 6.the way i thought was best which was spending that much as a 10% bet.
Knowing full well that there was possibillities of upsets i had no problems suggesting that sort of spend, athough as it turned id have got the lot with a smaller spend and a 100% ticket if i had stuck to my top 2 or 3 selections in all the legs.
Thats the way tipping and punting goes.
I was happy to have turned a $600 spend into $2800,have had many days where ive soent $600 and walked away with zero.
Not everyone likes my style but i like to win..by any means necessary and in this world you got to spend money to make it.
Bigger problems in this game then me only making you a $2200 profit.

dont know how going to have aslow mobile start would work with both drivers and horses geared to get out faster than competitors  . just a disaster waiting to happen.... I knew a test was run but as stated conditions were exactly same 2nd time and third time .  I watched and waited for the mobile to start sliding in the rerun and crossed fingers for the horses and horsemen which worked !! It did happen to us at Hutt park a few times and we did have the wet weather sets added andlowered pressure on rear tyres and we got away with it .  another thought in the flying non mobile start. how were drivers to know if another false start. obviously the galloper couldnt keep up ?

agree with hsv man, these things can happen, but to try again with same result defies commonsense. Starter should have been stood down and fined heavily for stupidity . Later in day after several trials the mobile may have been ok. Also the attractive young passenger should have been removed for the second risky slide as anything could have happened !!!

Exactly any starter with half a brain for the safety of the drivers and horses would have said to the stipes  (which is funny as he is a stipe also )straight away its not safe to try again unless  track  consitionschanged .which after 5 minutes it was never going to change .  But we all know peter lamb prefers to hear himself on the microphone instead

has anyone else noticed how the indicitave return on the tote can fluctuate wildly even after startime. nearly every race changes show the balancing between fixed odds and the tote must be the TAB laying off into their own systems. It is very disappointing to be expecting say 3.00 return when it changes during the race and 2.00 is declared. We al hear the huge bets going on fixed (which are prob more than 50% of total turnover ) which obviously. are a risk and its not laying off that is a problem but it is suspicious when changes are made after the first 800 metres run ???????????????

If the leassees have a right of purchase I think a strong solicitors letter giving them 7 days to exercise their rop. should be enough to get action. otherwise stick with the squaregaitors IWMCNIC. WE ARE ALL HONEST  lol.

Count us in. I bred Muscles Galore in the 3yo trot and will be on course with 5 syndicate members, grandson and four of his uni mates. I have major multis going for him to run in the first three. The draw is a negative but we have been patient and selective with him. Good luck to you all.

for a 6 win horse to get down to under 50 rating(maiden rating )the horse must have had over 25races without winning. I think a good maiden would have no fears racing that horse. also non win races are still carded and preferred by clubs to give the newcomers a good chance agaist sim horses. I have discussed the changes with many horsemen in north and most say they don't like the new system but don't really explain why. . The new system could have money won barriers incorporated say 40 to 50 rating for horses that have won less than 20000. and another say up to 55 rating for horses less than 30000. but of course the horses that had agood burst and picked up a good 3 or 4 year old race but is now out of form and not comptetitive  has no races under this system . I know it was considered by the team set up . I say give the new system a chance it might just  "f ::::::::::n work !!!

Probably just an indication of the pressure many are under to survive in an industry they have such a passion for. Sounds like many felt the need to express themselves, whether they were articuiate or not ,we should not be too judgmental on the way some delivered their message. As to your valid points.      A) Those that work at hrnz would know they are never going to please everyone when it comes to such a contentious issue as the handicapping system. Those that work at hrnz all have the best interests of the industry at heart, but it is very important that they  make decisions based on what is good for the industry as a whole. They just have to look at the big picture.  Whatever decisions they make, they must be proactive in selling the benefits  and reasons, and the data they used to make such decisions must back them up.   B)One of the things that is very surprising and rather concerning is that certain interest groups are already calling for change  from the new system it appears because it does not suit them ,and such a short time  after the new system that they called for was introduced.        C)When it comes to the issue of the handicapping system I believe its one issue where whats best for the trainer goes hand in hand with whats best for the owner.     D) bit tough. They are the type of blokes you would want in the trenches with you if you were fighting a war. Sounds like you share their passion,so best to cut them some slack.

having raced horses (3 )under new system there are many anomalies and discussed these with a hrnz board member including the pref barrier draw system. sometimes used and sometimes not even when the rules stated would only be used if wide rating . I agree some horses with 6 to 8 wins dropping back to the old c1 with 80000 in the bank is a bit tough but the system allows these horses to keep racing and if they start winning again then they will have to compete with the better horses. The like with like is good in theory but needs at least 12  to 18 months for horses to reach their level (of incompetence LOL, ) and have sufficient similar rated horses to card even fields. secret squirrel meetings are too soon as this radical change might just work in the long term.
