Many many more at the Canberra Cup than the Auckland Cup

I reckon I could do a better maketing Job.

The arse is falling out of NZ Racing...

How about catering more for the Public ?

Oz do it well, as hard as it is to admit !

I  watched the cup as usual, But yeah the absence of Public numbers & Glitz & Glamour was obvious.

I tuned into Cheltenham last night. where there were 60,000+.people on course.

Based on pre-ticket sales, 250,000 are expected over the four  days.

This is down from the record of 280,267 in 2022.

Speaking of catering, I wonder how many hot dogs on a stick they sold at Cheltenham? How many NZ race courses have sushi, or Ramen for example. Tacos? Anything remotely modern, as in from this century? Last time at Te Rapa (mid Jan) I had perhaps the WORST veggie sandwich in history - not the end of the world but predictably bad. I know there is more to going to the races than getting a decent snack but to me it is symbolic of the lack of care at our race tracks. It is a great experience watching the horses, but getting bird shit on your pants, and then having soggy chips, bad sandwich and disinterested hospo staff really adds to the experience.

I suppose we can look forward to trips to Aussie, decent food at Caulfield, nice hospo experiences at Randwick and even, God forbid, percentage quinella bets or this AMAZING product called a Duet. Way too fancy for NZ punters, of course......

Interesting I was reading a article about the beer prices for Cheltenhem, 7 pound 50 for a standard glass, so it's not just us.

Mind you a standard glass might differ from place to place.

5 bucks for a bottled beer at Ashburton the other day! $10 a whitebait sandwich that was mostly whitebait. Worked for me.

They're imperial pints so actually not that bad. Roughly equivalent to two 330ml bottles.

In the last 12 months I have been to Doomden, Flemington and The Valley,  the food is no better at those tracks than Ellerslie and it costs a lot more to get in, a minimum of $A20, on major race days a lot more, Ellerslie is free apart from the  big days and surely there can be no compliants about the public facilities at that track. Not saying everyting is all peaches and cream, it certainly isnt, just adding some balance to the discussion.

Going to the Stradbroke again,, Looking forward to a decent crowd & hopefully a Kiwi winner or two

Was there in the Bar with many disgruntled Aussies,...Pumpa weaving his Magic on my favourite horse.

Not too concerned about entry (paid package already)

Probably $8 xxxx,,s, , (who needs to eat. LOL)

plenty of time for that later. Hamo Hotel or Casino

MUST ADMIT  H.B Racing does a good job over the Spring Carnival, all handy public amenities.

B.Y.O 6 beers / bottle of wine , & good old hot dog, with plenty of sauce.

Crickey ! Houlahan's Dream , a NZ racecourse without a Hot-dog is like a farm with out No.8 wire or Red band Gumboots
