I can't see any reason why they shouldn't be able to race on their own all weather tracks, and it does provide variety.

I think part of the problem is the lack of coverage in the main stream media. We get endless stories about 2nd & 3 rate rugby players but nothing about Harness. Even Dexter Dunn being essentially the top Harness Racing driver in the world for the last 4 years doesn’t get a mention.
The media full of left wing loonies hate racing because people get enjoyment from it, it provides jobs and gives the Government a lot of tax. This is the opposite to what these idiots think New Zealand (not aotearoa) should be about. They obviously live miserable lives and spend a lot of time looking for stories that blame somebody of wrongdoing. Then racing gets coverage.

All watching the Warriers, all will be back next time, you can bet on it.
Probably need more parking space to cater for the masses.
Racing again didnt even make the headlines in the Herald, whats wrong with the media, have they not got their priorities right.
The media hate racing because it brings pleasure to people and they are all about the sad things in life, as well as promoting the Governments lies.

I should have posted on that other thread about Auckland's museum. I am so old I appreciate the museum.
So imagine my surprise when I see two year olds maintain a 1m 53.5 mile rate over 1980 metres. Before Christmas!!! I went to see Orbiter beat the two minute mile at Cambridge, circa 1965. The change in times is incredible.
The horses are faster now Tauhei Notts although don't seem to be stronger than in Orbiter's time. That may be because they are asked a lot of at 2and 3years old. The tracks are so much faster now which must be contributing to the fast times.

Probably not that old.....I'd guess mid to late !950's.
I think it would be well before the 1950s as I don't recall seeing most of those drivers during that period. I am pretty sure A Pringle didn't drive then but a Jack Pringle did. I could be wrong however as the mind is not as good as it once was.

I was there that day and watched the race from the inside of the track and liked Smokeaway which was paying 3pound odd for a place. Once the fire got going it became the omen bet and came down to 1pound 10 shillings for a place and ran third. A collect but not what I was expecting.

Overcheck mate, just because he's a stipe don't automatically make him right! it's clear to all an sundry he got this wrong, and photo's and video say so.....it should have been declared, plain an simple, at the very least an enquiry should be sought by authorities.....not only were owners and trainers etc of effected horses hard done by, but so were numerous punting people who were plain and simply ripped off by this guys actions no matter who he is! thank gawd I don't bet.....
Cheers Iraklis
Iraklis, I didn't say he was right, in fact the opposite. What I was saying was that if he wasn't a stipe then the other stipes would have done something about it. It is obvious he made a hash of the start---again.

Guys, guys, now come on, hey Stipes clearly thought it was fair start or someone woulda sounded the whistle or siren woulda sounded; it didn't, so all those horses that got a great start took full advantage of it, yuh can't blame them...personally I thought Blair (Copy That) shoulda been more on to it than he was at start, thats my opinion.....but the starter geez he's hard case alright BUGGAH!
Cheers Iraklis
Iraklis, the stipes wouldn't declare a false start even for this blatant shambles because Lamb is also a stipe. I think that is the reason nothing has been done to correct the situation. Past starters didn't use varying methods and got the field standing at the tape and then letting them go.

Maybe ones just getting older, cup day once was like a religious day for me,now it just comes and goes, someone will win and good on them ,then life will carry on I guess.
That's sad mikenz. I can remember Highland Fling winning and all since so I am not young, but I am still excited by the great race as much as I was as a young kid. There is something magic about the race even when fields are perhaps not as good as some in the past. It is still the NZ Cup which every harness owner, trainer and driver wants to win more than any other. The second Tuesday in November each year history is made. Mike, I would think you are far too young to be thinking old.

Still get plenty of breakers in the run up to the mobile starts, probably because the starter is hell bent on breaking the record for a vehicle reaching the start line. Standing starts have always had some breakers but now the main problem is the starter who has several ways of letting them go, none of which are fair to the whole field. This also gives some drivers a chance to try and out think the starter and get a flyer. The old starters didn't have all the trouble we see now because horses were made to STAND at the tape and drivers that tried to be smart were quickly bawled out.

Nice "mobile" start gifted to Italian Lad by P. Lamb.

Haha you may be right, but I think I am entitled to my opinion as you are yours, and the main thing is we all stay safe.

OH FFS ,you and others do the code a disservice by sticking up for guilty people. He was found guilty of turning up to drive under the influence, now he has pleaded guilty to misconduct and that's not even touching on his private life or potential INCA charges
He clearly needs mentoring/help to sort out his professional and private life. Getting pissed and being charged twice suggests the sooner the better. Abusing the integrity body, no matter how much you dislike them is a one way ticket to the outhouse.
Greg
I am not sure he is the one that needs mentoring.

Whether he has done anything wrong, and it certainly hasn't been proved that he has, just imagine the stress B. Orange (and his family) is under as this thing drags on and on for ever. He has apologised for his outburst which IMHO is not surprising, and probably shows the utter frustration of an innocent man.

awful mistake by ''the cheif'' ..we all knew that the 100/1 shot in front would stop ,so for butcher to choose to go to the pegs and trail was just plain dumb...he could have gotten behind natalie when she went to the death ...she like the rest of us didnt want to be stuck behind that leader....sure enough ,the longshot implodes before the turn and mr butcher is dragged back at the crucial time...a horse is 3yrs old only once ,these huge errors are unforgivable..
Yes you can say it was a bad mistake, but he doesn't make many. We all make mistakes from time to time in our work, but ours can usually be rectified.

Agree.
I always thought TAB had the vehicle with P6 to mix it up a bit, with sport and racing combined to get the general populace involved ie number of sixes in a one day, winning time of a race, how many tries in test match, winning margin by a horse etc etc. Imagine the interest resting on the last event if someone was live going into the last.
Just a thought.
A mixture of gallops, trots and head to head sport would get me interested.

It must really annoy the Tab that there is SI racing. Always being cut off for a dog race in Australia or NZ or an Auckland area galloping race.

Here we go again - and again- and again - back to the poor old standing starts. Amazing how there is never any trouble with mobile starts!
There are quite a few false starts with mobiles eljay. I think many are caused by the mobile going too fast before horses have settled into their stride properly. I may be wrong however.

Is there any chance to know when he is on trackside so I can refuse to bet that day ?
Be careful john, anything you liked would be bound to win if not betting.

The way I look at it Palliser is that the horse in front of her was under pressure, and she had a decision to make as to whether to wait and hope for a gap in time or go wide with a certain run. She may have done the wrong thing but theses drivers often have to make their decisions very quickly and it doesn't always work out. As a punter I would have been glad she did what she did with the certainty she would not be held up.
