In all the doom and gloom, all the moaning and whingeing, how about a bright spot, Saturday afternoon's racing was great for Kiwi's! Although I missed that Trackside 2 had better coverage of Rosehill. I'm a Verry Ellegant fan all the way, so just loved that win, and people raving about the leaders bias..... really!! She was no where near the lead till she changed gear in the straight!   Quick Thinker, Night's Watch (no where near the lead either!) , Probabeel, Chris Waller, JMac,  it was a great day for kiwi connection's!

Great to see him back today. 3 G1's in Aus now, not something many kiwi horses can do, especially over the sprint distances.

Antony Fuller is a very good trainer. He can really turn around jaded older horses with plenty of slow hill and beach work. Some horses sour going round and round a track every day! His previously best horse was the durable John Gray. Raced 113 times for 14 wins.

Caroline reacted to rdytdy in Loss Of Atlante
It is with great regret that we announce the devastating passing of Mapperley Stud stallion Atlante. A Gr.1 winning son of Fastnet Rock, Atlante was just 6 years-old and was nearing the end of his second season at stud.

“He was a beautiful strong horse who was admired by everyone and will be sorely missed” said Simms Davison

The exciting arrival of an outstanding first crop of foals this spring was proving promising for his future as a successful sire and his legacy will no doubt live on through the two crops of foals he will have produced.

Impeccably bred, Atlante was always destined for success and his class was recognised early on when he caught the eye of astute bloodstock agent Bruce Perry. Purchased for $200,000 from the Lyndhurst Farm 2012 Ready to Run draft for renowned owner Lib Petagna, Atlante was a racehorse of his generation.

Under the guidance of the team at Baker Racing Atlante won the Gr.1 NZ Two Thousand Guineas and Listed Canterbury Stakes before crossing the ditch to take on the Aussies. He opened his Australian campaign with a close 2nd to prolific galloper Dissident in the Gr.2 Hobartville Stakes before running down multiple Gr.1 winners Lucky Hussler and Trust in a Gust to win the Listed Drummond Golf Stakes.
Atlante was retired soon after and settled into stud life at Mapperley Stud in 2015.

$140,000 is a bit out of this working class battlers budget! But in the scheme of things it does look a bargain! Good Luck to them!
I believe Race Cafes very own Caroline has a half brother to VERRY ELLEEGANT purchased from Karaka 2018 for $10,000...NOW THAT IS MY TYPE OF BARGAIN!

Very impressed Ted...and a very good ride considering how strong Jennifer traveled! To power away like she did was quite incredible!
P.S.  If I'm wrong about the Derby result...I hope your boy can win it. Then we will have to add Dragon Leap to Champion 3YO calculations also?
What a crop we have this season!!

Good luck!!group 1 racing is fantastic and would love to be part of it.  I may try to be there but if not enjoy. I had noticed over our summer we seem to have some fantastic horses all ages, running everywhere at the moment and I am loving watching it. Can't believe I kept my hands in my pockets at karaka! Definitely going to oaks at home track might see you there if not otaki.

Yesterday at Caulfield we saw a fantastic win by Alabama Express and we will probably see a lot more from him. Paul Moroney bought him for A$280k at the Easter Sale in 2018 for brother Mike to train.
Alabama's Express' dam Lago Ovation is an unplaced  mare by Encosta de Lago  from a good imported family. Several members of the family have worked very well with Redoute's Choice so it is not surprising Paul had a hard look at the colt at the sales.
Rekindled Outlook is a half sister by Flying Spur --similarly unplaced when racing, was sent to NZ to support Ferlax when he was standing at Haunui. The 2 colts by Ferlax from the mare sold in Book 3 for $3K and $2.5K.  The Novara Park guys now own the mare (probably bought very cheaply) and have bred her to Sweynesse, so they now have possibly got a Book 1 mare.

The lack of facilities has nothing to do with the lack of horses. I do agree, the facilities are a disgrace.
I think it is time the CJC stepped up and said "right everything is a mess, we have to take charge and show some leadership, we are the senior club in the South".
Ironically, I think the SI is incredibly well placed considering the state of the industry as a whole. There are heaps of horses, just usually in the wrong place at the wrong time; there are some amazing trainers in the Parsons, Pimans and Tylers, and some up and comers; a superstar jockey in CWJ, a rising star in Kozzi Asano, some great horses including Enzo's Lad and Kiwi Ida: Cup Week,  popular circuits like the West Coast and the Christmas circuit;  icons like the Dennis Brothers and Andertons, a great history and tradition; regular success in the NI,  some very good race tracks, the best winter tracks in the country, some dedicated owners, and breeders. What is lacking? Perhaps a superstar stallion, and most definitely leadership. Someone needs to step up. I think it should be the CJC. They should be calling a meeting of all SI clubs and participants and saying "forget all this mesara and winston rubbish, we know how to run our own show,  let's make this work.

Baz- ditto...no doubt will seeyou at races again....Breeder..exactly that about power. although Powers are semi performing 2nd in wakefield and races here and there they were not favored at the sale. Our filly added value to her foal for sure.Yet our colt was a physically very strong beauty type like they say close the book and look at the horse. I was going to keep and race him myself if he didn't sell/reach an amount.  He has gone to a good home with a stable friend from highden which is neat. I really liked the Wrotes at the sale they took my eyeand got outbid on my picks so will keep looking as we missed with our mare to contributer but she is in  foal to Rip Van Winkle. Hope for a safe and healthy foal and breeding.

Had a look at a couple of fillies. Both were tidy enough, one a taller athletic sort and the other shorter more running sort.
I was quite taken by the 'Wrote' horses. There is one filly today who is lovely who I might get tempted to buy even though I am not meant to buy any more.

Here is a free tip for fellow 'Cafers
Do not think that giving her royalness a fascinator for a pressie in January is a good idea 'cause you got it cheap ( 'cause they are last seasons )'cause apparently you only buy the new season fascinators in the Spring (That is Spring 2020 not Spring 2019)
The Cubemeister thought he was being mildly romantic and frugal at the same time but apparently is just a cheap b@#%*&d

I've been in touch with Kingshill.
He said he is going to donate his winnings to the Catwalk Trust, so just another example of how great and generous the people of Racing and RaceCafe are.

What a super effort by Team Te Akau 4 Karaka Millions in a row and the first horse to win the 2yo and 3yo version with Probabeel..which they bought and sold to the Lindsays.
One things for sure NZ racing would be much the poorer without their involvement .... I think Probabeel will hold her own in the Autumn in OZ... top class filly.
