Shad got a reaction from Gruff in Is The RIB Worth The Cost
Yes not the first time the integrity of the integrity unit has been call into question on this site, guess many will make their own judgements, the more you read the more convinced you get.

Shad reacted to We're Doomed in Additional Riccarton turf meeting 16 June
While on the subject of Riccarton, I notice the Anne Herbert race was won by a horse owned and breed by Toni Croon, who Anne used to train for. Very appropriate I thought, and paid good money as well.

Shad reacted to Dopey in Canterbury Belle - 1985 ELDERS Handicap win (now Stradbroke)
Given its Stradbroke weekend ... remembering CANTERBURY BELLE and her Elders Handicap win in 1985.
LINK to Youtube: Fast forward to 38:27 Canterbury Belle (Elders Handicap) AND 41:16 Dave Kerr (trainer of Canterbury Belle) with Jan.
A great interview by Dave as always.
Canterbury Belle's win is quite possibly the last South Island trained GROUP 1 winner in Australia? need someone to check.

Shad reacted to Gruff in Sad end to a champ West Coast
Thats life unfortunately, similar to the Joys of Surfing... you cant get attacked by a Big Fish or head butt the reef sitting on the Couch. Im sure this Horse lived the life intended and was loved and looked after accordingly. Thanks to all who helped produce this great Talent.RIP

Real sad, but he was doing wat he loved albeit with 72kg, these things just happen sometimes not always on the racetrack, many succumb just in the paddock as well

Would have to been one of the best for his speed, and withering finishes.

Shad reacted to Ripples in Race 3 New Plymouth
Hi Scooby, first up you do an awesome job managing this site, whilst I don't agree with some of the posters, in the instance of Jools if she cuts the name calling and capital letters crap out she does raise a couple of valid points, to be fair Ive seen worse on this site. I know its flavour of the month to rubbish her and she (or he) is probabaly not the type I would have a beer with but I would hate to see her banned unless she crosses the line of common decency.

Few good mares delightful lady tussle and Bonnie’s Chance, one never got in foal, the other two left nothing, Nigel Craig, Locarno and Waipounamu, Even Speed, a handy bunch of that era, hard to believe the Greymouth trotting club hosted an OC trot, on the small all weather track, very similar to Hutt Park, bit of a novelty the only night racing venue on the coast.

The young ones may not have seen this race . The old dudes will remember this finish from No Response . You can hear one Punter yelling his name up the straight

You boys, I always enjoy the all the threads and the site, but just a shame some of them get spoilt with comments on the opposition, I know it’s a bit of tit for tat, but for me you’ve got a great site and everyone appreciates and enjoys it, and best concentrating on doing what you very well, and the rest will take care of itself, I know it must take a lot of time and money and dedication to run a good site, just my opinion, not to be taken out of context, Cheers Shad.

Great post well done, always good to have a reminder of his feats, or learning for some that missed that era, super horse, was a striking black from memory.

Basil Dean what a machine he was, one of my all time favourites, recall Reon quote, he’s really turning on the power, along with No Response’s withering late bursts,a few say Scotch Tar one of the all time greats.

What a great horse Pete. I wrote an article on him once in a tribute, as he did stuff no one would/will ever do again. Some of these runs were amazing , not just at Addington but all over NZ.
here's the article
A great trotter in his day , and very small time trainer Slim Dykman sent old War horse around in a lot of places in NZ and his best year coming in 1980.
SCOTCH TAR attempting some things no-one will ever do again .
25th October 1980 : Scotch Tar starts in the 'pacers' Inter island Challenge Stakes , but the Queen of the Park 'Delightful Lady' wins that easily as expected. Scotch Tar runs 10th out of 14. a bit of task to race the pacers. (trotting is generally a few seconds slower than pacing gait )
But get this , an hour and a half later on the same night, he trots back out onto the track to have a go in the Feature Trot as well. off a 10m he finished only 5th (after the early effort against pacers so was a big ask)
29th Oct 1980: having somehow recovered from the impossible mission 4 days earlier, SCOTCH TAR wins the Inter-island Group 2 Trot over very handy trotting mares Thriller Dee, Special Pride and Framalda.
Now Slim thinks he can win New Zealand s Biggest Trot . The Dominion Handicap at Addington . so he hits the road back to Christchurch on the float.
Calling into Wellington on the way home to Canterbury on the float trip home , and wanting to keep the SCOTCH Tar in shape it seems, so he plonks him in a race off 100m behind Handicap, at Wellington at the Hutt Park. And he wins by 6 lengths in National record time ! . "JUST a TRAINING RUN" is how Slim summed up the win lol.
11th Nov NZ Cup day : SCOTCH TAR wins brilliantly in the Worthy Queen off 35m behind. Defeating Top horse and often main rival, and recent Interdominion winner 'No Response' by some 5 lengths. well Slim Dykman is super confident now after these BIG Handicap wins. so....
Let's Have a crack at the NZ FFA ! one of the Great pacing races of the year at Addington every Showday.
14th Nov : The NZ FFA field are dispatched from the mobile, and slim goes like bat out of hell, in front with SCOTCH TAR (the trotter ) against the best pacers in the nation . 'Hand's Down' the NZ Cup winner for the Jones family, takes the win though over another popular Popular fast horse in LORD MODULE. Scotch Tar fades to 9th but carved out a near record first mile .
and Finally, A week later SCOTCH TAR brilliantly wins the Dominion Handicap off 10m handicap , defeating the race's following years winner STORMY MORN and arch rival No RESPONSE very easily by many lengths.
Sealing his place in History as Marvel of the track . and really having a busy ''3 week' period with 7 starts there creating his own history and legacy, in the Spring of 1980.
