Dopey got a reaction from jack in Melbourne Cup-winning trainer hospitalised in health battle
...He said his life was changed forever when his stayer Brew won the 2000 Melbourne Cup, wearing No.24 and jumping from barrier 24.
“When you go overseas, or no matter where you go, you’re known as winning a Melbourne Cup. That’s the sort of race it is,” Moroney told this masthead last year.
“Our grandparents bred one, and so from the time we were old enough to talk and walk, we were brought up on the Melbourne Cup, on Hi Jinx’s win in 1960.” Moroney once revealed he had an eerie premonition before the 2000 race.
“A few years earlier I’d dreamed that I trained the Melbourne Cup winner – and I dreamed it was Brew,” he told the VRC website.
“I remember telling my wife that I’d dreamed that I won by two lengths with Brew who was No.24. My wife said, ‘Who is Brew?’
“My dream didn’t make sense then though because at the time Brew was a three-year-old in work with Paul O’Sullivan...

Attached is the pedigree of Move to Strike - the newest group 1 winner for the no 22 Eulogy family, out of a 1st dam by influential dam sire Shamadal, from a Generous mare, from a Danehill mare, from a Marscay mare....also even a star kingdon mare tracing back to Eulogy herself...representing  a power house of damsires ...
Personally i think Shamadal may do better as a damsire than as a sire or sires (noting Darley who are clearly a better breeder than i am are betting big that i am wrong) - its just a hunch of mine and still trying to work out why...but im breeding accordingly.
    likely future sire in NZ?
    (no assoication).

Dopey reacted to Palatable in Circus Maximus
Agree with Dopey, bloodlines suggest Circus Maximus is mile & above, King of Comedy less so.
I didn't like the mare matches on average for either of these stallions at Karaka. Breeder flags up Showcasing mares above for King of Comedy due to the commonalities, and the ND and MP overlaps look nice, and with heavy ND mixes I always tout that you need one line of an outcross for balance. The Warning granddam line on Showcasing achieves that and makes him a nice match. Too many of both the Circus Maximuses and King of Comedys at the sale didn't have that balance.
Centaine in the dampage would look nice to me. Sprinting, robustness, to mould the ND and MP brilliance. Centaine was our second most successful non-Phalaris stallion in the pedigrees (to the 5th line) of our Group 1 winners last year, after Star Way. In terms of their relative presence in our broodmare band those two great Kiwi stallions aren't the most common. The biggest non-Phalaris stallions in the bloodlines of the comparable 2018 salestoppers at Karaka were from Round Table, Pieces of Eight and His Majesty lines. Yet Star Way was in seven of the 17 Group 1 pedigrees in NZ last year and Centaine was in six (Round Table had just one - Prise de Fer). Much of that is thanks to Proisir, but not exclusively (Mustang Valley has both, Imperatriz has Star Way).
I may have some Kiwi bias slipping in with the above or at least fond memories of Star Way and Centaine, but if we think Proisir is getting good as a stallion, I can't wait to see how he goes as a broodmare sire.

Thanks all. Yes, she was syndicated in AU. I’m still in, and I admit to having shed a tear when she crossed the line in the manner she did on the night (proud for Turf Fire - whom I bred /raced - such a long process) She’s a talent, and while Don Carlo won 8 and his first race as well, and Full sister Glinda Goodwitch broke down after the sires produce of her year, and even thou I’m getting carried away after a MDN at Cranbourne- she’s could be the best yet. It was a good margin for only a 1000m.
If you give me some licence, on a breeding front, I think those two back white socks go back to Nogara via turf fire - lots of multiples. She has them as well.

The first five dams of Poetic Champion are all chestnut, as are the second, third, and fourth damsires. The first damsire is out of a chestnut mare.
On the sires side the colour is from Super Seth's second dam Toast of the Coast (chestnut), whose parents are Rory's Jester (chestnut) and Solo Show (bay, but half of her great grandparents were chestnut).
From his yearling photo he looks to me like Rory's Jester more than anything, but at that age it's hard to tell.
