I think that he will be excellent. He has had a lifetime in the game. I worked closely with him on the programming of dates etc a long time ago and he was excellent. I’ve also had an association with him at Westbury, owning a share in one of their stallions. No issues there. My only concern if I have one, is that he might be too Auckland focused but I hope not. Obviously the Board think he will do a good job, as its very unusual for a person to come onto a board and then immediately be made Chair.

Another vanilla appointment for mine , as you say might be too Auckland focused but that will just be a continuation of the last few years .

Ah the Auckland bogey again. Breeder centric? Have a look at the board and you will see it has a reasonable spread.

I dont think any of the recent board were that excited to step up and be the head. My feeling is its going to take a while to get NZTR ion top of the issues.Theres a recession on, low productivity and a general funk around around the country. Gripers abound.

I wish Russell and his board all the best!

Yes, the Auckland Bogey is a fair comment given history of how Auckland screwed up the racing calendar so that they could move The Cup to Mid-March and it has now become just another race. Then we have millions poured into giant piss up in January. Let's hope that the slot race is more productive and gives a good return on investment.

However, I also wish Russell all the best as I agree that he has the experience and knowledge to do a fine job.
