Apparently he was "filling in" which wasnt announced when he was appointed. He did a very good job however.
I think guys like him, Teaz, and Evans get a pretty rough deal. Teaz is outstanding and I prefer him over anyone in NZ. Knows his stuff, knows the real industry participants, and calls a great race. We need to look after guys like him. Evans will be the next caller for the CD if those "in the know" actually know anything at all. There's a few callers who get the royal treatment and some have been red carpeted to their prominent roles - God knows how. We should also spare a thought for a guy like Tom Wood who could have given up completely after the way he was treated. He's having the last laugh now though.

The torrid rain storms over previous week ,especially the last 2 days saw predictable scratchings at Ellerslie.....yes shocking fields at Awapuni ...but Ellerslie was buzzing from where I stood.Excellent crowd enjoying pretty good weather with plenty of food and drink sales and a bit of punting as well.
Quite a buzz to the place......over 5,000 pre-sales for food and beverage ,and the crowd on lawn and in public stand pretty good there plus in the tents around the back by the impressive new stables area.
Cant be too many days in NZ racing these days where that sort of crowd attends ,paying good coin to attend.
Even several hundred in in field.....not the thousands like the old days with BYO booze and own food but looked profitable to me.
The Place looked fantastic ,most dressed up with plenty of lipstick and the track held up well I believe.
Much to like about the day IMO.

    Round 17 Final Round Up
9 non posters in the top 50 of the table meant that there were some smaller movements shuffling a couple of places here and there over the two races given the nice place dividend in the second for Kenedna which 5 posters had.
Mardy still leads into the big day of racing this Saturday, but Baz has snuck ahead of non-poster VC to slot into third position and Thepaw has moved from 10th to 8th.   Other than that the top 10 remain the same.
As expected with only two races .. no big movers.
    Mardy

G'day   whilst Peter is away I'll be covering the results for this comp so if you have any queries, problems, words of wisdom .... by all means message me rather than Peter, so that he can have a restful and well deserved break.
I'll be posting updates over the afternoon and a nice easy start with only two races this Wednesday    See you then!

Does it matter posting on both channels?  I enter the comps on both channels.  The prize money on here is very generous.  The formats, frequency & presentation of updates and the banter is better on the other channel.  For me there is a place for both.

As I said before I used to post on here all the time, but felt like they weren't getting much attention so thought I'd try some where else. And I've also said that I have no preference over the 2 racing sites...I'm a racing fan and im supporting both sites...and I definitely won't be starting anything malicious.

Steve Paul reacted to Cubes in Hot Fuss
The Cubmeister is pretty sure no-one out there in 'Caferland gives a flying toss , but anywhoo.......
This is how the Pins mare in the last @ Riccarton on Saturday got her name....
Cubes went up to Karaka for the first (and last) time back in January 2016
Obviously wanting to rule the world by way of dominating South Island Racing , the Cubinator had got prior management permission (i.e. Mrs Cubes had been bribed into agreeing) to purchase 4 yearlings and bring them back down South and win everything from Guineas to Karaka millions and become rich and famous....
    However...
Basically Cubes lost his bottle in the auction ring and got very hot and sweaty and the thoroughbreds we wanted seemed to go for gazillions over our budget and it was very stressful and Cubes is cheap so doesn't want to pay too much and it was very hot and we only went to the Festival sale which is the last day out of 6 but then Cubity had a couple of beers and managed to pick out two fillies eventually...pheww !!!
And then they went to George Simon's place for agistmentness and Shelley Houston for breaking in and then came South and then did not much and then trialled and one is an absolute donkey but then we had to decide on names and over numerous glasses of vino collapso nothing was ever agreed on and then the Trainer got stroppy and said they couldn't start without a name and then Mrs Cubes pushed the eject button on the CD player in the car and "Hot Fuss" by the Killers popped out and that is how the Pins mare in the last @ Riccarton got her name .

At least 50 yearling acquisitions per year,( as reported by the late Neil Pilcher--not my guess), age group racing for the big money the only focus, ( i.e. NO horses ever line up in the mundane , industry meets such as last week or the week before), maybe 6-8 competitive out of each year's lot chasing the big money which leaves more than a few needing pony club attendance or possibly worse fates.. My observations come from years in the industry, following the behaviour of those who are involved in racing, and yes, it caters for every stratum of life, from those who think the horse is just a disposable commodity for them to boost their egos right through to the owner motivated by their true love of the horse.
I fully realise this is the unfortunate reality of racing, but just like the Waterhouses, Wallers and Godolphins,( all with 600-700 horses on their books) the "financial" success of your mates in the blue colours would not be possible without the battlers sustaining the game between their big pay-days.There is nothing magical about the abilities of most(not all) of the top "always based on money" trainers--they are the ones who have the most horses and a rapid turnover of the same. Those with limited ability are quickly out the door.( Which reminds me--" was Chris Turner a champion trainer because of the success of Veandercross or was it the horse that made Chris Turner?" -just asking). And then Chris Waller--a  seemingly good-guy Kiwi making it big in OZ. If Terri Rae, John Bary or Mandy Brown had been on the receiving end of 60 "blue-bloods" from the Ingham family (not to mention Winx from Ingham's daughter) then any one of those 3 could now be the doyen of Sydney racing today.
As for my supposed "negative fashion"--all I have endeavoured to do is strike some balance. The fawning of some of you is akin to a religion. As for the recent corruption issue, I believe I have counselled for restrained commentary, telling Guerin, Marrion and Purdon that maybe they should "STFU" and let process evolve, but obviously many of you are so embedded with certain harness players that you think you know better.

Cameron Shaw is a work in progress but coming on well. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Good antidote to the over exposed Mick G!

Happy to score some points this week. Not sure about next week though as hubby goes into Westmead Hospital this Monday the 20th to get triple by pass done. Hopefully might be discharged next weekend.
    Regards,

Surely takes a set, to stick a photo on here of a half decent wager BEFORE a race, so good on you CBT for putting your money where your mouth is, and showing us what ya think via a betting ticket photo.
