Interesting runner at Waverly today.  Purchased by David Ellis for about $1m to target Group 1 sprints after originally being sold to Australia from Royden Bergersons stable. Didn't exactly return the investment and now back with its original trainer against five rivals in a R75 racing for $17,000.

Why don't you tell the whole story?

Originally purchased by Bergerson and Rutten.  it won the Grp 2 Eclipse as a 2yr old.  2nd in the Karaka Million and the Manawatu Sires Produce (Grp1).  A 50% share was sold to Australia.  There it picked up Grp and Listed placings.

Sent to the MM Broodmare sale and purchased by David Ellis and Sam Bergerson for AUD$850k. The Bergerson's probably retained a share when it was syndicated.  The mare still has some residual value regardless of its performances on the track subsequent to its sales.

Because i dont know the full story only the big song and dance Teakau made about buying it from the broodmare sale fora bargain price  but thanks for telling it.  Its won about $20,000 since and no black type are you seriously telling me its worth even 10% of what they paid for it?   Where did it finish today?  I was on the loo and missed the race.

Never a hope on that track today. She'll win more races in my opinion.

Previously place one from two on heavy and much tougher opposition than today. As I've said previously she may get a better track in the next little while but not a lot available for a mare of her calibre going into winter.

There's a few different types of heavy ground. She never handled that at all and it would be foolish to judge her on that run.

I reckon Roydon will get some wins out of her. I would say they'll be looking at spring races for her.

I also note that the Te Akau syndicate are still listed as owners.

Way less than the 850K they paid for her.

Serious question. How many horses bought by DC Ellis for 800k or more have been any good?

Wolverine is a Group Winning and Place mare on both sides of the Tasman.

She comes from the same Waikato Stud family as Prince Kaapstad, Ocean Park, Grunt and others.  So still a mare with a decent residual value.

By a Stallion who has been shipped to a far off land she never won a Group race in Oz and NZ form is greatly downgraded...look at Belclare last year and she has a much better record than Wolverine has...Nah would be lucky to get 50% of what they paid maybe even less....

Race Record : 3 wins in succession at 2 at 1100m, 1200m, $396,273, in 2021-22, Waikato RC Wakefield Challenge S., Gr.2, Auckland TR Eclipse S., Gr.2, 2d Manawatu Sires Produce S., Gr.1, Canberra Guineas, L, Auckland TR Karaka 2YO Million, RL, 3d ATC Tea Rose S., Gr.2, Carbine Club S., Gr.3.

Hmmm..if they're looking to win Spring races for her, why race now for a $17k stake going into the worst of the weather/track conditions?
If today /bwas a 'trial' I wish someone had said so publicly b4 Max anchored this classy mare in his quaddie LOL.

Seems to me that she's become a riddle wrapped in a puzzle inside and enigma and the connections are just trying to work her out.
dont accept the excuse that she didnt handle today's track conditions.

On her run today there's serious doub that she wants to be a raechorse any longer and the broodmare barn is calling!

So you try driving a normal car in a sand dune and see how that goes...blind Freddy could see she never went a yard in it...and until today the track was not wet...they are not machines .
