chiknsmack 490 Report post Posted March 14 My first bet was on a million-dollar Pick 6 at Addington. I can't remember the last time I saw a substantial Pick 6 pot in any code. wph and TARANTULA 1

Idolmite 2,567 Report post Posted March 14 Really? The bastards. One of the only ways a pensioner punter can try for a reasonable collect for a small spend including a favourite or two. Pricks. Hopefully they will replace it with a pick 9 but I’m not hopeful All codes. Just gone. They infer taking a quaddie instead of a Pick 6 will suffice, and taking a multi will replace Place 6. Amazing. It's not like Pick 6 and/or Place 6 would take up much of their time. No fixed odds to calculate or anything. It's a simple calculation of pool size divided my the number of live units after leg 6. And it's not even as if staff have to get their Casio calculator out to find the answer. TAB going just the way I thought it would after the UK crowd took over and that is downhill fast.
CeeMeNow 196 Report post Posted March 15 In North America, the big tracks like Mohawk and Meadowlands all have at least two Jackpot betting options at each meeting, often with 50c or even 20c per combination bet, their punters love them, and the higher the jackpot goes the more money follows. Lotto now has $4m starting Jackpot, they are hoovering up the cash, if the Jackpot is struck on a Saturday, it only takes 18 days for the Jackpot to reach $10m, or 17 if struck on a Wednesday. Punters want to win life changing amounts of cash, particularly when times are tough, if racing does not provide that option, it loses. So frustrating that those in power refuse to look at a jackpot type bet. As you say, the bigger the pools the more people get involved. We are constantly told we have to increase betting revenue & here is one solution staring us in the face & nobody in power will even discuss it. mikenz 1,096 Report post Posted March 16 Many of the quaddies for the gallops have a guaranteed pool, 25000 or whatever, yesterday Trenthams was 75000 and Entain are obviously topping them up, maybe reducing some options may get some shifting to quaddies, if they are topping them up they ain't making money from them. A six pack, what are they ?

They use the Code Prize Reserve Pool to top up any shortfall so it comes out of punters pockets. Too many betting options on pari-mutuel pools dilutes pool sizes so it's probably a good idea to get rid of some pools. Pools that tie up a punters money for six races can't be much good to them so it makes sense to get rid of those first.

Lotto ties up money longer than 6 races so perhaps we should get rid ot that as well. CeeMeNow 196 Report post Posted March 18 I would have thought that anybody who thinks they are knowledgeable enough, or hopeful enough to Pick6, would be following and betting into the designated races, any Pick 6 divvy would be a bonus, now they do not have that incentive. So it’s not like the TAB are against all bets that tie up money. I think a jackpot type bet would bring in money we are missing out on now. Perhaps not from non racing people but definitely from casual small punters. TARANTULA and Keneperu
Bimbo 734 Report post Posted March 18 They tried Triple Trio about ten years ago and it failed. These jackpot type options just don't work well in the New Zealand market. The way for Entain to skin punters of as much cash as possible is multis with as many legs as possible and preferably Same Race or Same Game multis. Lots of novelty bet options and promotions that you can't take part in if you overdo it and make a little bit of profit. That's the future for Kiwi punters. Fearless Fred 0 Report post Posted March 19 The decision to make all pick sixes terminating was probably the poorest decision ever made. This removed any hope of a jackpot, and attracting new bettors which the big pots had done previously. Easily the cheapest marketing ever. Pools of 40k Thursday and 50k Friday were easily achieved before the change to terminating, in recent times a terminating pool exceeding 10k was uncommon. Therefore not surprising to see them wiped. Hopefully the person responsible for shifting to terminating has been shown the door.
