JETSUN reacted to GOM in Vale Max Matthews
Farewell old mate, one of the good buggers who was just as comfortable talking to the Queen as a beggar on the street . He did both of those.
Well known and respected in both Islands as a champion breeder and trainer who won most of the group races in NZ often more than once with his small team. He was a tireless worker for the Tokoroa club right from it's beginning and leaves a large legacy in the industry.
I don't think I was ever with Max more than 5 minutes without both of us having a hearty laugh about something. He helped many within the industry especially newcomers
RIP Max

JETSUN reacted to Everton in a good read
Hi Jetsun, with you the whole way. But I worry it is too late.
I stopped betting on NZ greyhound racing 3 years ago because there was too much uncertainty about whether the average punter was being duped by cheats.
And I emphasis the word uncertainty, whatever way you want to look at, doping, baiting, dogs dissapearing, David Scott incident, fighting at the tracks etc, it just goes on.
And what also is dismaying is that some prominent people like owners, trainers, and others have known about all of this for decades and some choose to either ignore, protect and make excuses for all the crap.
I have had a few dogs over the years ( not anymore ) and some have been good, have only ever had 2 trainers, one gave up years ago, and the other is basically getting out now. Both great lovely honest people, both say the same thing, cant compete with the ..... but I will use the word uncertainty.
I had a really good sprinter that would always compete and beat the best, but if we ever got to a final, we couldn't beat the best, they would improve by lengths, must have had great trainers mmmmm.
I agree with you Jetsun, but it should have happened 10 years ago, I fear it is too far gone.

JETSUN got a reaction from bus stop in a good read
Yes GOM. They will get their fair trial before final actions can be determined. But, lack of action by the NZGRA at this stage is more harmful to the code than Coles actions. As happened in Australia the code is loosing it's Social License and we are providing all the ammunition they require. That is why I stated SUSPENSION, nothing else, until the trial action is completed.

You are probably right Gordy but if the NZGRA had listened to all the warnings for the last couple of years they could have got to the bottom of it and avoided the inevitable mess that we are now in.
Cole's are entitled to a fair trial no matter how everyone wants to judge them without one but that fair trial should have happened years ago. Very poor decision making by the board they could fairly be charged for allowing the sport to be brought into disrepute

They left it far too late. Even if coles licenses were suspended and the suspension got overulled by the jca/legal system, it'd look alot better than it does currently

JETSUN got a reaction from Gary Sharp in a good read
After watching the TV3 News item just now, where the Green Party spokesperson called for the abolition of Greyhound Racing in NZ, coupled with the No Comment from the NZGRA and that the RIU are awaiting developments with no present plans to lay charges, it is imperative that the NZGRA immediately suspend the whole Cole Kennels racing activity until the outcome of the trial. They found it unbelievable that Cole was still racing and handling dogs at Wanganui today.
We must act to save the integrity of our code.

JETSUN reacted to Emotive in Mad harry
Dogs crap in the kennel block on a weekly basis without being scratched. If the dog was considered to be suffering from diarrhea it should have been vetted immediately in consultation with the trainer or person in charge. That is why a vet is there. If protocol was not followed that would be of concern. If the dog's temp was then taken later and returned a normal reading then the cause of the elevated temperature would have been due to kennel anxiety, a common cause of kennel crap. To my knowledge, a dog cannot be scratched on medical grounds without first being examined by a qualified vet.

JETSUN reacted to GOM in Congratulations Pinny MAC
Superb effort , showed speed, guts and the smarts. As Steve rightly said after the race, this was a dog that was supposedly failing to chase.
When are the Aussies going to wake up and smell the roses, when FOL produces these kind of results

JETSUN reacted to greyhoundlover in Stake Increase
The issue is now they are cutting the amount of litters able to be breed, stopping brood bitches at 7 and limiting Aussie imports. The theory is that good bitches will stop racing as soon as restricted age is over to get 3 litters if you are lucky out of them. so if they are trying to cut this and trying to cut imports then where are the dogs going to come from ? Greyhound racing in nz won’t exsist.....

JETSUN got a reaction from GOM in Messara report
"Greyhound racing is proposing to reduce their number of venues from 7 to 3 after 10 years. We have not undertaken detailed work on the harness or greyhound codes, so are not in a position to comment about their preliminary venue plans. The information provided by the harness and greyhound codes to the Future Venue Plan Joint Working Group meetings on 6 June and 6 July."
Also Greenfields Project. The Greenfields site could also possibly include provision for harness and greyhound racing, and all activities currently held at the Cambridge Raceway.
Who was the Greyhound rep at these Future Venue Plan meetings. Who intends to close down our sport and just have 3 professional venues with say 1 or 2 contracted trainers to each venue. Goodbye to all grassroots owner/trainers.

JETSUN reacted to Hound Fan in Messara report
I believe it was Mario ba sari....couldn't inform us Gordon because it would be a conflict of interest being CEO as well as part of this futures board......so why was he there and why hasn't this been discussed with the grassroots......time for him to look at himself.....we dont need another secretive leader that has there own agenda..

JETSUN reacted to Flabbergasted in Messara report
That is somewhat disappointing and I really can't understand the logic in aiming for just three tracks. Rationalisation of the greyhound code has already taken place, many years ago, so why does it need even more. The distance that many trainers are required to travel now is daunting enough. Do they think that when they close a venue that the participants will relocate to be nearby a remaining venue. Some probably will but as Jetsun rightly pointed out many grassroots participants will just be lost to the sport.
One can only guess but in all likelihood the three track scenario would be Christchurch, Wanganui and Cambridge.

JETSUN reacted to Jape in Ring the bell
As well as not getting the lead from A Bale, RTB did get a fair bump and I think he just thought That's it for tonight. He retires as a wonderful competitor, fully deserving to be the Stayer Of The Year.
Dusty's finish was certainly outstanding. That 8 box was no help at all.
Craig deserves full credit for having AB at the top of his game and a spot-on run from Translator as well.
Another fine staying race but why did we have to go almost immediately to watch horses in the stables at A Park? Nearly 6 minutes lead-in! Some time later we got a little of the after-match but I never did see the actual presentation.
Group 1 race, second richest race for greyhounds in NZ. The code, the greyhounds, their handlers and winning connections deserved better.

JETSUN reacted to Emotive in How did we let this happen?
Totally agree with both comments above. I could not believe that the club reps signed away our rights so willingly. A million dollar industry with no member representation what so ever. Who does that? The apathy was deafening! Shame!
Also totally agree with you Lowdown on the baiting debacle.

JETSUN reacted to Hound Fan in How did we let this happen?
You know the biggest problem is ego...we have a majority of people in the sport now that never fought for anything..and think there's a living in it...most young ones don't and will never own a property because they are not prepared to work in a real job and get one...greyhound racing will not provide that unless it's a hand me down.....geez if they knew why greyhound racing is at manukau now and how much some went through to make sure it stayed ...there is not one of them would put that effort in...like our head office and our board and our failed lp rep they take it for granted...they think succes is in a computer...not hard graf.....

JETSUN reacted to GOM in ARE THEY FOR REAL
Nah flabber, It was an incredibly stupid thing to do in the first place and quickly retracting it when the users rightly kicked up a bit of a fuss just shows how inept the whole exercise was and absolutely no credit should be due.
One lunatic even posted that we must have voted for it. No one even heard about it till after their brainstorm.
People here are a few facts. One, we owners and trainers are the industry. For all their high falluting plans, thoughts and ideas the board cannot exist without us.
Two, we have had many rights removed from our grasp. The fact that all these changes can be made on a whim without input from the members shows how much we have relinquished.
Three, We have the power. All we have to do is stand up for our rights. . The Auckland debacle is a good example. No one seemed to be in any position to decide if the reason was an act of God or not, the members certainly were sure, the RIU seemed to agree with them but the people who were responsible for the issue were able to decide otherwise. The correct action would have been for every member to not nominate for the next meeting at Auckland. Just as it is correct to stand up and be counted when foolhardy rules that penalise the members are passed.
Four, None of this will happen and so things will just puddle along as they are. A new CEO so a new start....... past behaviour is the biggest predictor of future behaviour. The new CEO has been part of the present situation we find ourselves in so why should we expect anything different.
Cheers Mike Martin

JETSUN reacted to Gary Sharp in Dress Code
Just putting this out there to see what others think about it.
I was thinking about putting forward an option to head office & the 2 clubs that I go to about the dress code for summer.
I feel that now that the weather is getting hotter there should be a Summer Dress Code & a Winter Dress code.
The Summer Dress code would be:
Good black shorts, White shirt, good black shoes/sandles.
Also I feel that the men should also be allowed to have their Polo shirts un-tucked during summer as it gets really hot out on the track & the shirts stick to you from all the sweat.
What are other peoples thought on this?
