canon47 83 Report post Posted December 10, 2023 Keneperu Dear I say it the only reason racing is still going in Manawatu is those dish lickers they seem to have an endless supply of cash injection. After the tens of thousands spent on the new straight track at Wanganui 1st trails due today week I wonder when they well pull the pin in Palmy. Rumor has it The Wanganui Jockey club well be paid $5000 a meeting yeap user pay p.s not one cent of The Jockey clubs funds went towards construction costs
john legend 744 Report post Posted December 10, 2023 TN what happened to hawera easter dates.... the gods in control (forget tradition !) decided easter dates too valuable to waste on such insignificant places as Hawera. By the way Keneperu. Womby 55 Report post Posted December 10, 2023 Good point canon47 but you need to pass a venue inspection before being granted a permit to race. The powers that be want all of the facilities to be ship shape ie track conditions, the stand, all buildings, camera towers etc and the list goes on. One of the reasons these seldom used venues are not racing . Value Bell

iwmcn 44 Report post Posted December 10, 2023 Argue all you like. Us oldies who have been active breeders, owners, committee members (club and national) and punters got involved because the sport was accessible in our cities/ region. It encouraged us to socialise and introduce clients and friends to the sport by attending. Hutt Park despite its negatives was a catalyst for the public, owners, trainers and drivers. It encouraged participation which does not exist today. North meet south for both horses, drivers and trainers. Turnovers were regularly on average the fourth and fifth highest over many years. At the time of closure of Hutt Park HRNZ was gutless and offered no support.. I personally challenged (as President) and partly financed the Councils reasons for closure in the High Court but to no avail. We were rail roaded by the Council. End of story. The demise of Harness racing in the Central Districts can only be blamed on ineffective administration by HRNZ s past and current administrators. Manawatu s efforts to retain the sport within our region deserve our support to keep the sport within the CD region. john legend 744 Report post Posted December 10, 2023 well stated Ivan, over the years the sad closure of the Park has grown into a mythical fantasy land where ill informed commentators run riot !! This is concerning due to the many years and effort by many good people who sacrificed their time and finance to keep the Capital with a true HR asset There are very few true harness racing lovers who 'welcomed the closure of a true icon.
