Racing heavyweights to have greater role in its direction
meomy replied to Pete Lane's topic in Thoroughbred Cafe
Air NZ was Operating as Freedom Air in Hamilton, NZ, in the same era, 1995, and in competition to Kiwi International so that's not changed as such. -

Look his history up in Papers Past NZ archives and feel free to share his history in here. Would expect also there to be history on him, and others, in the World Legal Institute databases, NZ legal decisions are also in there own section of that database. Not much is undiscovered these days. Alas some of those older Judicial files must have some sunlight on them and can be accessed. @We're Doomed Do you remember the orange coloured Post Office Savings books? They are were a slightly darker tinge to the most recent Racecafe colours @Pete Lane He killed off the Post Office Savings Banks across New Zealand. Shameful piece of work that was. Leopards don't change their spots. How did he get appointed to the Board? -

Hamilton airport was also said to be on the way to becoming an International Airport back in the era of Ewan Wilson - Kiwi International Airlines - look that history up. Oh yes and we see he has resurfaced at Hamilton Council to. Be mindful that leopards don't change their spots. -
Is there a comparable Racing sector report to compare the racing industry from 1925 to give a better indication where things have gone AWOL? They will include sheep and cattle pastoral leases and income, good crowds and none of the nonsense spun today. From recall they are in the A to J section of Papers Past archives and worthy of a comparison.

Betting Revenue is down because of the flow on of fundamentally flawed and fatal wider Economist decision makers - Domino effects...has Dominos revenue also been down?

Or Entain are out of there depth and know there contract is based on Horse and Greyhound success because Rugby, cricket etc have always been secondary and were never included as part of Totalizer when it was initially set up in the day. Has Sports Match Fixing increased? There's always compliance costs to pay for, including ongoing Court Cases Entain is involved in - have a look in mainstream News of them as there's at least a handful in processes. It was always illegal to have a "Game of Chance" as in bet, in Domains and Parks - gosh, We reckon that's changed but is it legal with so many addicted to phones at sports events in Sportsgrounds..? It's a minefield out there on the internet to with prosecutions of Influencers - they are required to comply with Advertising requirements, and all those pop up ads, use of Cookies to Track people for targeted Advertising, have all been in the Media and Courts of Laws to so that's something to be mindful of with the wider picture and that Entain are required to comply with. Whose monies are funding that? -

Yes "Infrastructure" in this country, and other pockets have the world have been severely impacted by the use of "Paperless" and real human interaction and intervention systems. The consequences of shutting down Bricks and Mortar offices and buildings dating back to the 1980's and Tax Offices, Immigration offices, Insurance offices have now hit the Racing sector shutting down Bricks and Mortar TABs where people could walk into and have a flutter and watch their beloved races with like minded people. We used to have a flutter on the day before when working on a raceday, and everyone had access to CASH. These changes have all come about because of a minority committing armed hold ups and robberies so why are the majority paying for it with the scaremongering and use of coercion to use Digital online only? There should also have been Options available for how we all wish to carry out our enjoyment of living life. They need to bring back the human element in society including Paper based Media in our supermarkets and petrol stations as that's how Marketing 101 worked. There's also serious issues with online crime and pushing in the background is One Currency with Fintechs. At least with Bricks and Mortar one had control of one's fundamental rights to freedoms. Re Breeding, NZ population has increased rapidly so there's not a shortage of "foals" to educate in the Education sector - if Racing is to stay alive in NZ, and other parts of the world, there needs to be much better Inclusion of related education in primary, intermediate and secondary schools. -
We wonder if they go through Russia because they have had major internet outages. Keep tabs on where Rocket, Satellites, subsea and fibre optic cables for Communications are been laid as outages seem to fit hand in glove Edison's works are also worthy of a read to refresh knowledge.

Thanks @Pete Lane for affording users to provide more proactive feedback and comments on new articles. It helps ensure industry participants participation, who perhaps for whatever reason don't use the likes of Faceboom

Congratulations to Catriona Williams, MNZM. Well done and a very deserving person to be awarded such an honor in King Charles 3 Birthday weekend honours 2025. The King shall have to bow to you Catriona, so we hope you have we a cheeky comment at the ready as Charlie's known to have inherited his father's quick wit and we all know you have a great sense of humour too. So who else within our fraternity is as deserving of KC honours for the next round? Make sure any nominations are put forth as soon as possible because close off dates are not that distant anymore, quite strange really however perhaps if people wrote with pen and paper and popped a Postage Stamp on they may get opened sooner and be easier to retrieve...

Logic, Academics have since at least the 1980's been sharing each other's works behind the scenes using emails. Wake up and join the Dots. As an example, Professor Michael Baker, Susan Michie and Fauci have all been in cohots since at least 1980's. There's evidence of that on Michies CV. Ditto a few others. They rubber stamp each other's works without applying logic or other legislation or means or materials or geography or advances in the world. We all saw and experienced that the last 5 years Baker was also involved in the attacks on Poultry and Pig farming methods and has always failed to factor into account what means and materials people had at the time and in the era those buildings were permitted which at the time they were built were legally compliant, and technically to this day are still that way where they still exist. It's the size of space per animal just like it is per person. They had access to and were using computers and electronic mail, as in email way back in the 1980's behind the scenes and not been held to account. With the internet been more accessible it's easier to see who has created what Research Papers and when as it's no longer hidden.

It's vital people read up on the history as to why Racecourse Reserves, Public Domains and Parks and Reserves were initially planned for as part of overall Town planning with the forward thinking of those in society back in the 1800's. These people factored into account housing and buildings would encroach on the land. It's a Public Health requirement to have these open spaces. They were never ever intended to be operating at a profit with what was permitted on them. They are for all of Society including all forms or recreation hence the Legislation written in the manner it is under the Domains Act 1882, and those prior, carried forward as the Reserves Act 1977 and carried forward. Brush up on your knowledge folks under the Parliamentary papers section of Papers Past NZ, together with in the newspaper section as there's a wealth of knowledge and insights within there. Hence we continue to go on about it. It's Generation Zero who have screwed over all our previously protected in Perpetuity Public Domains. It's also a serious failure by the bean counters and Governance for failing to increase the required sum of monies needed to live in Westernized countries as it has been $4200 since at least the 1980's and not been increased as it should have. That is the real reason some countries are facing significant housing problems including Hot Bedding by those who have failed to undertake Due Diligence on other countries cost of living expenses which are vastly different to what they were used to in their home countries. There was also previously a strict limitation to the number of migrants per year which factored into account natural attrition. Politicians and Academics are responsible for these failings to factor into account these basics. They need to stop targeting the closure and demise of Sport and Recreation Public Domains because some person thinks they don't contribute to the health of the economy because the reality is, without animals, nature and open places of pleasance society is in much poorer health. Be mindful those who keep kicking those who live outdoor lives have also done this to Croquet, Bowls, Golf and other Clubs including Bridge Clubs indoors taking away much needed leisure balance in our lives. The only way forward to address so called housing needs to enforce law and order at borders and take steps to raise significantly the monies others need to stay in another country to catch up with inflation and the cost of living. $4,200 barely covers anyone's expenses in Australia and NZ these days and it definitely wouldn't afford a person to live a year in either country. We believe it's the same rate in most of Europe and the UK. So to the over paid, unelected Academics go away and do your homework because you are all accountable for close to 30 years of gross incompetence to your fellow people.

Datsun 1970's orange era also... How would we have all reacted if it was 1970's blue?

HAVARD is just one of the many universities where there's problems - incidentally all universities have become problematic as a result of using computers and the internet. They all copy paste works internationally without applying Logic and Legislation. You do know that the Speed Limit screw up came about because some countries still use Miles per hour and others use Kilometers? The speed limit in New Zealand was converted from 30 miles per hour to 50 km hence all the mess. Whilst 30 miles converted to around 48.99 kms they rounded it up to 50 km and there was always discretion permitted with either side for driving over the speed limit. The same problems have happened with Healthy Homes and Heat Pump PEP scheme. The same problems have happened with calculation of the number of houses needed , or should that be not needed in New Zealand because they failed to factor into account there's always been a limit to the number of migrants permitted to get residency or enter on Working holiday Visitor visas and also that of natural attrition. The same applies to all the dumping of clothing and tools and junk into NZ, one would think that people would take stock and use a little Logic /; Critical Thinking but nope, pop some figures into a computer and rely on far fetched figures. These Academics have often cheated and need to be held to account. Look back to who has access to the Electronics and devices first used to apply for positions internationally in other countries - China and Asia including India because it was cheap to manufacture them there. They have exploited Westernized countries Government contracts to because people in those countries, including New Zealand, foolishly advertised roles and Government Electronic Tenders (GETs) on the internet for anyone who had the means to apply. The average Westernized countries people didn't have those means, nor access to apply, hence the friggin messed up world we find ourselves all in and decline of previously stable safe infrastructure and loss of basic necessities like working telephones that are not junk. Edison must be turning in his grave.

Judicial processes are in action - see the other topics on this and the link to it. We live in a democratic Society where we still have Jurisprudence thank goodness for that even if some think they can act above it. Politicians the last 20 or so years have been derailed by unelected activists and academics who have failed to factor into account multiple basics and need to be held to account. The world, and New Zealand, is a Circular economy not just a handful of overpaid bloated Academics who think they can act outside of the law and provide Government advice without being held to account.

Calvin Russek who was involved in the $500,00 Jackpot Racedays at Paeroa Racecourse, Paeroa in the 1980's recently passed away. The great ole days of Horse Racing in our rural communities before things with awol with high fliers and the 1989 sharemarket crash. Thoughts are with his family. May we all take time to reflect on the generosity local volunteers have to our industry to keep it going and the need to keep racing going in our rural communities as we are all richer as a society for them.

Just wondering if this decision is tied in with Operation Inca? Mitchell Kerr cases? Or if it's copy paste Methodists and Problem Gambling Behaviour Scientists clipping the ticket with their "Fundamentally Flawed" allegations around people having an interest in horse racing and the assumption that all people have a gambling "addiction" just like Act like the idea people on benefits shouldn't buy Alcohol - wonder if they consider buying Alcohol for another person as a Gift is sinful and a crime? Lurking in the background is always a bunch of overpaid Academics who remain unaccountable for their own failings in applying wider Legislation. Has anyone seen any Research papers or had disclosure of documents that has lead up to this decision? Or who has been involved in Consultation processes? It may be worthwhile to request that information in the best interests of the integrity of Racing and obviously it's a Human Right to communicate with others as society does not function in isolation.

Some are claiming outages are impacting connectivity as a result of Solar Storms, including references to NASA. They should never have messed with or stolen our Copper infrastructure - which incidentally started to be stolen the same era Cell phones came into New Zealand. Robbing from the tried and true infrastructure in our country to provide phones for the poorer ones to access Social Security - from reliable sources we have read. How would NZ fare with these connectivity problems when they arise?

MMNP ? Or MMNoMP? Did you make a typo @Insider?

Whilst the lighter tone - apricot - is ok, it's not so good for those with eyesight challenges to have that particular shade to divide topics/ posts. Could also be a challenge when trying to read outdoors. Any others out there with eye sight challenges finding the same? Like the new montage - whose horses are they? Thanks for affording us the right to provide feedback Definitely keep the News as we need more investigative journalism in NZ too It must add to International readers and contributors to via outside platforms.

Co Governance??? What party do we call you?

Did you find out the answer to your school boy days @nomates ?

@Hufkissen There's around 300 plus references to Noir Dore also spelt D'ore in Papers Past NZ archives. Noir Dore was raced in partnership between JJ Child's and H Turoa Haronga, who was a float driver in Fielding, over 7 seasons. 78 starts and won 8 races. Other details of races Noir Dore are in this archive base. Echo Haronga is Turoa's wife and they have a fairly large extended family. Maybe reach out to them and ask what records and photos etc they have in their collections. Alternatively Noel Harris may remember as he rode in races against Noir Dore as did Gary Philips and Skelton. Easiest to navigate PPNZ using exact name words, page preview and perhaps in yearly timelines e.g 1970-1972, 1973-1975 etc for chronological order. A brief scan unfortunately didn't bring up any photos of the horse on it's own, however using names of Trainers, Owners, Race sponsor names and the like may - using "illustrations". There didn't appear to be any reference to it under Periodicals and Journals/ Magazine section where there are Racing and Sports publications. Let us know how you get on.

Perhaps he didn't go to choir practice as a school boy to learn to stand up straight or do physical education - balance beam Gym... We have said it before and we shall repeat, younger and new to the industry need to be shown and taught how the likes of the late great Phil Leishman presented racing and spoke so eloquently, then there was Mary McCarthy (?). Who is selecting these presenters for jobs? We understand some picked up jobs as they lost there's at Newshub and TVNZ but they are not all well spoken either. Bring back Journalists who are Journalists and put a nail in the coffin to "Communications studies" they introduced back in the early 2000's as they are not up to Professional teaching & learning standards

Don't the Green Party support the use of Medicinal cannabis? Meanwhile what political party have those been potentially associated with who have been caught using such substances around Greyhounds? Aren't the Greens big on Rehabilitation programs for criminal offenses, including the use of unlawful substances? There's always a flip side...
