Broadcaster and former australian Senator Derryn Hinch, went to jail for publicly naming Pardophiles who had been given name suppression. He named them out of “principle” and against the name suppression laws of Australia. After being jailed, he ran for an Independant Federal Senate seat on a ticket concerned with this issue. He was successful and became a Senator. Sometimes, brave people come forward and step up to the plate when the community’s (public) expectation is not being met by authorities, especially politicians and lawmakers. When community expectation is not met, often due to archaic and out of step laws, then one can only admire those select individuals who have the courage to stand up for all of us! To that end, persons like Derryn Hinch and the accused in relation to the Grace case - should be admired. Those that should be charged are those that have the power and responsibility to listen to the electorate and change archaic laws, so that they are more in step with community expectations in the 21st century - but sit on their fat butts and do nothing!

Interesting. The stakes are good in Auckland, but fields are small. Yet throughout the south, stakes are largely poor to ok, but fields are large. Am I missing something?

The comps were run amazingly well, some took some scoring by looks of them. I might be a lone voice but CT was quite good at times , he labelled Mystic Journey very early when she hadn't left Tassie, I for one never look there ,the names Gee Gee this that and the other does my head in there . He also labelled Brutal early doors. But best imho was him absolutely cracking into the 1.10 shots . My all time favorite thread on here though, and I might have it slightly mixed up due to time elapsed was the one CT told about Sunline racing in the Israeli Oaks in the West Bank ridden by an Arabian Prince , something like that anyway . Is he banned or MIA ?

I suggest that in future years the Auckland Cup stake be reduced to $450,000 and that the horses finishing 6th to 18th get a $3850 discount on their entry fee. To the owners that would be great. It would save 3/23 of $50,050 in GST viz $6528.26; and it would save the owners $7500 in percentages. So the perennial payers would be $14,228.26 better off. This scheme is so simple that there must be some reason why it is not tried. Please tell me where I am wrong. If I am right I would be willing to have ARC member 64846 donate the $43.48 (20/23 of the extra $50 cost) the Club would be missing out on.

Whip use is a blight on the industry , these jocks time and again are either lacking composure getting white line fever or don't give a shit . It's one or other . Ramp up the fines , then ramp them up again . These whip happy jocks will soon get the message or get a new job not beating animals hopefully .
