  1. Chaldean ( by Fankel) to shuttle to Cambridge Stud. $35,000 fee. https://loveracing.nz/News/44922/ChaldeantoshuttletoCambridgeStud.aspx https://www.pedigreequery.com/chaldean6
  2. Another very good horse from Trelawny Stud.
  3. This is a cut and paste from an Aussie site. Shows there is hope for everyone. From Punters.com.au This list just goes to show what can be done with research There's probably a story to each one here as to why so cheap etc However i wouldn't mind betting that the vast majority would be "too small", or "unfashionably bred" the latter is always a laugh to me, and proves that the market is not the best guide to G1 winners based on Market perceptions the total purchase prices below add up to a fraction of some of the individual purchase prices above, and in prizemoney won 'nuff said Price tag Prizemoney TAKEOVER TARGET $1,250 $6,348,650 8x including 2006 Lightning/Newmarket POLANSKI $4,000 $1,173,565 2013 VRC Derby BEHEMOTH $6,000 $1,627,290 (so far) 2x including 2020 Memsie SINCERO $8,000 $1,786,475 2011 Stradbroke/George Main HOLLOW BULLET $10,000 $1,464,202 2x including 2004 VRC Oaks YANKEE ROSE $10,000 $2,043,700 2016 Sires' Produce/Spring Champion ROTHFIRE $10,000 $869,750 (so far) 2020 JJ Atkins UNDUE $10,000 $1,120,455 2x including 2007 Oakleigh Plate MYSTIC JOURNEY $11,000 $3,747,600 (so far) 2019 Australian Guineas HAPPY TRAILS $11,000 $3,292,650 3x including 2014 Mackinnon BEL ESPRIT $13,000 $2,073,600 2x including 2002 Blue Diamond LITTORIO $15,000 $2,508,475 2x including the 2008 Turnbull SHOOT OUT $15,000 $3,238,950 5x including 2010 Randwick Guineas/ATC Derby REGIMENTAL GAL $16,500 $1,615,350 2x including 2004 Lightning SANGSTER $19,000 $1,667,077 3x including 2011 Victoria Derby WHOBEGOTYOU $19,500 $3,263,450 2x including 2008 Caulfield Guineas NETTOYER $20,000 $1,614,700 (so far) 2020 Doncaster SHE WILL REIGN $20,000 $3,206,900 2017 Golden Slipper/Moir BLACK HEART BART $20,000 $4,818,580 6x including 2019 Underwood BUFFERING $22,000 $7,300,194 7x including 2016 Al Quoz BELLA VELLA $22,500 (in April 2019) $665,925 (so far, since re-sale) 2020 Sangster PASADENA GIRL $25,000 $585,350 2015 Champagne BEGOOD TOYA MOTHER $28,000 $639,340 (so far) 2019 Sir Rupert Clarke WHO SHOT THEBARMAN NZ$30,000 $4,587,446 2x including 2018 Sydney Cup CAPTAIN SONADOR $30,000 $733,500 2010 Epsom Hcp HOT DANISH $32,000 $2,333,630 2x including 2010 Doomben 10,000 SUNLINE $40,000 $11,351,607 13x including 99/2000 Cox Plates VIDDORA $40,000 $2,852,153 2x including 2018 Moir RACING TO WIN $40,000 $3,762,285 5x including 2006 Doncaster ALBERT THE FAT $40,000 $1,307,525 2x including 2011 Emirates GYTRASH $40,000 $1,234,050 (so far) 2020 Lightning ILOVETHISCITY $40,000 $903,050 2011 Randwick Guineas BLACK PIRANHA $41,000 $2,650,755 2009, '10 Stradbroke TRUST IN A GUST $45,000 $1,170,150 2014 Sir Rupert Clarke/Toorak PRINCE OF PENZANCE NZ$45,000 $4,459,190 2015 Melbourne Cup REDZEL $45,000 (as weanling) $16,444,000 2x including 2017 Darley SAMADOUBT $45,000 $1,059,260 (so far) 2019 Winx UNDER THE LOUVRE $50,000 $1,827,700 2016 Stradbroke FIELDS OF OMAGH $50,000 $6,496,240 3x including 2003, '06 Cox Plate JOHNNY GET ANGRY NZ$50,000 $1,268,675 2020 VRC Derby
  4. The US guy just spent $3 million on another lot.
  5. Plenty of Kiwi money being spent at the sale, especially by Dean Hawthorne ( about 10 purchases so far). I know Dean buys a lot for a Victorian outfit but they usually note that by putting Vic by Dean's name in the results. This year it is all NZ. But Te Akau, Roger James, Cambridge Stud, Stephen Marsh and few others are all buying.
  6. Well done to DK. I hope the filly turns out be a good one. It turned out to be an auction to dissolve a partnership in the filly, by the look of it.
  7. For me this is a classic case of forgetting who came 2nd or 3rd in some key races. If I had been asked, prior to their announcement, who Hilal was I would not have been able to answer the question. This video on the GW site gives a summary of Hilal's important races.. https://www.gwstud.com/hilal-race-summary
  8. Hilal , a two time runner up to Anamoe, is standing at Grangewilliam this year. https://www.breednet.com.au/news/28980/hilal-to-stand-at-grangewilliam-stud- A great addition to the NZ stallion ranks, being from the same female family as Redoute's Choice.
  9. Windsor Park's new shuttle stallion. Paddington !!! https://www.breednet.com.au/news/28801/european-superstar-to-stand-at-windsor-park-stud
  10. An interesting short read about James' exceptional career so far https://www.ttrausnz.com.au/edition/2024-03-21/analyse-this-unpacking-james-mcdonalds-path-to-greatness
  11. I think it will depend on the mares served by each, Arbernant. I'm a fan of King of Comedy and Novara Park heavily supported him but with a lot of middle distance types. Plenty of Jakkelberry's. Nothing wrong with that, but it will not support early runners. KoC himself did not run as a 2yr old. The progeny I will be interested in are those out of Showcasing mares. Showcasing and Kingman are very similar, genetically. From his first crop there are 4 foals from Showcasing mares. There are a couple from Makfi mares which should "click" quite well. Circus Maximus ran at least 2 times in stakes races at 2 over 1600 meters, for a third and a fourth. He won a non stakes at 2 over 1600 meters. His female family is the same as Noble Bijou so you would expect a few middle distance/staying types. But I'm sure he will have covered some sprinting type mares so they will not necessarily all be middle distance/stayers. I think both potentially could throw a good two year old but more likely there will many more 3yr+ types and either could throw up a Derby horse.
  12. CM is to stay permanently at Windsor Park according to an article in ANZ Bloodstock News. Similar to what happened with Charm Spirit. ANZ_240214-online.pdf (anzbloodstocknews.com) scroll down to pages 3-4
  13. I agree with you chknsmack --the industry needs big risk takers and WS can afford to take a few. Just looked at Super Seth's figures : Year 1 covered 143 mares, Year 2 109 and Year 3 only 65. Last season's figures are not up yet.
  14. I remember reading a comment from Mark Corcoran about Verry Ellegant. He said if she had gone through a yearling sale she would not have sold for much because she did not look very good at that stage of her deleopment.
  15. Thanks for the Tom Wilson link, Leggy. Really interesting stuff. I was surprised at his comments on Irish black type. My understanding is/was that there were significantly more black type races in Ireland as a percentage of races run compared to elsewhere. I obviously had that wrong.
  16. For a demonstration of Steve Davis at his very best go to the NZB website and watch his performance on the sale of the $1.60 million filly, on the first day. Brilliant auctioneering but also fabulous theatre.
  17. There seems to be a lot of first foals in Book 1. I have never really looked or took much notice, in previous years, so maybe it is not unusual. I'm no expert on type but Hello Youmzain seems to leave very well built yearlings --massive rear ends, which hopefully translates into plenty of power.
  18. He is working hard. On Saturday he had 6 rides In Sydney --3 wins, one 2nd, one 4th and one down the track Then he hops on the plane for his rides in Hong Kong. Well James --I like to see hard workers succeed.
  19. OK. I stand corrected Insider. and We're Doomed. Getting my weekends mixed up.
  20. I think David was very influential in the breeding industry in a numbers of ways. All explained in this article ---scroll down to page 9 https://www.anzbloodstocknews.com/editions/2024-01/21/web/assets/downloads/ANZ_210124-online.pdf?lid=unh6ie3z6tmc
  21. tonkatime --I do not disagree with the general thrust of your comment except the long weekend and people still on holiday bit. The meeting has always been on this weekend. Your comment about the increase in woke people is spot on, the demographics of Wellington has generally changed in last 15+ years. About 30% party vote Green, for example. The Councils ( not sure about Upper Hutt) do not get in behind the event like they used to. I can remember a street parade through central Wgt in the week leading up to the meeting ( like they do in Melbourne). There used to big banners and flags all over the place. With regard to yesterday, I was surprised the track was described as soft. We have had quite a lot of drying wind and the temperatures , especially in the Hutt have very high all week, so I cannot understand why the track was not drier.
  22. Just watched the replay of the 3rd race at Trentham --Farewell to Tony Lee Premier. won by Alexandra Quick. Didn't any of the commentators watch her first race --ie. don't they do their homework? She ran the same as she did in that first race. I would bet Tony Lee would have not ranted like they did but mentioned , even during the commentary, that she was repeating her performance at New Plymouth. She looks like a serious horse and can only get better as she learns what racing is about.
  23. David Ellis went to $2.1mill for a filly by Wootton Bassett out of Avantage, this morning (Aussie time) , so that makes 4 buys over $1.0 million. 11 buys in total now. I do not think NZB should be worried as I think David is buying to develop his Cranbourne stable with horses the Aussies investors will like to get into. NB. He seems to be supporting the NZ vendors as well. Well done to him and his team.
  24. Hopefully his half sister, Vangelis, develops in a similar way, Pam.
  25. If money is not generated, any business, it will not survive. By having very good, vibrant R To R Sale it gives breeders another very good option for their business.
