Thanks for that link....what an awesome performance. First 800 in 46s...final time 1:58 on a sloppy dirt track. Is that something else or what?!! As always, the Belmont presents it's challenge of another 400m and while he looked invincible today, history says that he has the job in front of him. I think he is capable of it - can't wait to see it all unfold!

Mrs Ed - sorry haven't been in here for awhile........ I may be stretching things a little with actual top 3 - But on his stakeswinner percentages, Aussie success rate and at $100k, it is hard to find too many better, in my opinion. He will never be 'out of fashion' - I can almost guarantee you that!!
-
If true, it sets him up for runaway success! I have liked his foals that I've seen and I reckoned he'd be one to make the grade as a sire. Generally, all it takes to ensure a stallion's success is to sell him early - look what it did for Fast N Famous! ...and many others, I might add...

The late, great Slim Dusty - a true Aussie legend - has a song entitled 'Big Frogs in Little Puddles.' I learnt it in my youth and can still recall it word for word. While it deals with Bureaucrats in another sphere, it's thrust fits very well with this present situation. "Big frogs in little puddles, laying down the law, Tying bows in 'red tape' - and dunno what they're for. I thought our soldiers went to war, to keep Australia free But 'Big Frogs' in little puddles are chokin' you and me,...chokin' you and me... Old Tom staggered to the office door, of a north--west frontier town And he cried, "Give me food and water! ..and I'll tell ya's all what I've found!" Yes...I've found a mountain made of iron ore - and This'll make the money flow!" But the Clerk in Charge said," Now, steady, old man - we must do things correct, you know." I just can't hand out County supplies to everyone who asks And you're not a resident of this 'ere town, so you're not my business task.. Oh but here's a Requisition Form - and it's in triplicate, if you please!" Now steady old man - why, I believe he's passed out! .. Oh I wonder where that mountain could be??" Big Frogs in little puddles......... Well they found Old Tom's iron mountain, and the town grew big and fast And all the Knobs felt quite important - living down their humble past And if folks started asking questions - there was the good old 'Pass the Buck' And if little folk got in their way well - that was just their bad luck! In the mines one day a young lad was killed, and they sent the message on home And his mother came over a thousand miles, so he'd not be buried alone. Someone broke it to her gently, that it might be rather rough, A coffin made of 'Masonite' - and the hearse just a dirty truck. Well she cried awhile, and then she asked for flowers, but there were none to be had in the town So they sent to the council office, to see if some could be found But the Clerk in Charge said, "What can I do? - She'll have to take it in good part!" Oh I guess he was just too busy - to be bothered with a Mother's heart [ what a nice fellow!] Oh, big frogs in little puddles, laying down the law Too busy in their little world, to know what hearts are for Success and money they might have, but they'd better not forget Their puddles may dry up some day and they'll deserve the scorn they get, Deserve the scorn they get...... "

That sure won't help Flying Spur's average winning distance!

$100K confirmed last night [and only 30 outside services], as you predicted Insider. He is definitely the Best stallion in NZ at present and certainly in the top 3 in Australasia, so hard to argue against the massive increase in his fee. You just need a mare worthy of such a fee and a bit of luck - to make money.
-
Yep - I'd LOVE to go to Sacred Falls with my mare. They actually share the same 3rd dam, so quite apart from anything else, it would be an interesting cross. But $30K is way too much for my budget I'm afraid.

Castles Rubbishing Sydney For Poor Crowds

Huey - your comment about the shifting of the Auckland Carnival etc is absolutely spot on. To be fair, they have a reasonable job of it and it shows some signs of being a success in certain areas. However, one GLARING exception is the Auckland Cup!! Just need to revert back to a 2 mile event on New Years Day and make the City of Auckland Cup the 'manufactured' event on a Wednesday in March. -
Great to hear Cubes! Let's hope there's a few more to come...
-
Yep - Sacred Falls at $30k and Savabeel $100K. Interesting to hear Mark talk of limiting Savabeel to approx 130 mares meaning 30 outside ones.

Why did I look in the letterbox Sunday morning
Lloyd Vivian replied to puha's topic in Thoroughbred Cafe
I was also the recipient of a package on Saturday morning - not one - but TWO Catalogues! Must be because I'm trying to reduce my monthly outgoings also, so my youngest has to go - LOT 246. -

Couldn't go far wrong with any of those PJ!! -
The poor old president needs to URGENTLY learn how to speak in public. He was woeful - and I don't know the poor bloke from Adam. Get someone else who can put two words together when they get behind a mike. It's not everyone's 'cup of tea' - so get somebody on the mike who can do it and enjoy it.
