  5. The on course betting is back up and running. http://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/sport/85128823/race-meeting-delayed-at-winton-and-no-oncourse-betting On-course betting is back up and running at the Winton Jockey Club meeting. The first race at Winton on Sunday was delayed by 30 minutes until 12.40pm but bets were still unable to be placed at the on-course totes for the first three races due to technical difficulties. On-course betting finally resumed just before race four and was expected to be available for the remainder of the card, including the Winton Cup which is now scheduled to jump at 3.58pm. The delay was to try and rectify the tote issue and the nine race-card was officially put back one race. Embattled Australian horse racing trainer Sam Kavanagh has been found guilty on all bar one of the 24 charges levelled against him in the long-running cobalt saga after Racing NSW stewards delivered their findings on Monday. Kavanagh either pleaded guilty or was found guilty in 23 of the 24 charges during the marathon inquiry - which commenced in June - and was triggered after Midsummer Sun returned illegal levels of caffeine and cobalt in his system after his successful Gosford Cup defence. The only charge he escaped was of administering or causing to administer caffeine to Midsummer Sun. Flemington Equine Clinic partner Dr Tom Brennan was found guilty on all 12 charges while practice manager Aaron Corby was found in the wrong in one of two charges. Harness racing identities Mitchell Butterfield (five charges) and John Camilleri (six) as well as Kavanagh's stablehand Michael O'Loughlin (four) were also found guilty. Submissions on penalty will be considered by the stewards panel on September 10. Ad Feedback - Sydney Morning Herald

  14. I got an email today, I copied and pasted it below. Resignation of the General Manager It was with regret that the board received the news of Jason Fleming's resignation at the end of last week. We've enjoyed the fruits of his labours for exactly six years and his departure is not completely unexpected. Anyone with his energy and leadership qualities is bound to seek further challenges. He will remain in Hawke's Bay so we will look forward to his presence when possible on our racedays. New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing will also feel his loss as one of the younger and respected racing administrators who was assisting in the necessary reshaping of the industry as part of their leadership team. Jason leaves behind a ship in reasonable shape at Hawke's Bay although not without some substantial challenges. The changeover of CEOs is always a dangerous time for boards but I'm confident we have the systems in place to enable a smooth transition. Jason has agreed to work out his notice period of 60 days. The board's challenge now is to have a new General Manager with his/her feet securely under the desk before the Spring Carnival is upon us. We wish Jason and Anna and their family all the best for their future. Mick Ormond - Chairman
