Might be a little misleading at least 50% plus  of the race was run on  the firm Trentham chute .

As per normal the chute may or probably was firmer than the main course as it possibly didn't get the 8 ml of irrigation on Monday night, but it still got the 20ml of rain over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

One can only say that the main course with 8ml of irrigation on Monday night + the 20ml over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday shows how well that the track performs over the Summer and Autumn.

Interesting ride on trav, quite the opposite to his usual pattern.

Maybe because no pace on ...if he had sat back and got beat he would be getting rheemed again...maybe the horse did not back up after the Auck Cup...they are not machines.

Steady on, don't think he'd be rheemed for riding a stayer in the manor or pattern that has been his racing so far, was never a chance being ridden handy, lost count of times I've seen stayers ridden handy, when totally against there racing pattern, usually same result, not that I had a bet.

I dont think he tried to ride him there I think it just ended up that way after he jumped away and no pace on...just the way I saw it.

Explain how Ellerlsie are allowed to continually say their track is a Soft 5 when they don't actually use anything quantitative to measure it?  How many other "Strathayr" tracks in the world only measure moisture levels which appear to have no correlation to the track rating/condition?

Just for poor old naysayer CM...Re Ellerslie...from someone who would actually know...the track is measured more than any other track in New Zealand.  Every morning, a cleg hammer and moisture reading is taken and a penetrometer reading is completed on each morning in the lead up to a race meeting as prescribed by NZTR. So there is factual info so you can stop giving yourself an ulcer about it.

Then why is the CEO on public record saying that a penetrometer can't be used?

Don't need to ask.  It was published online.

PRESS RELEASE | Update on penetrometer readings of Ellerslie's StrathAyr track

8 Jan 2024
Auckland Thoroughbred Racing

Auckland Thoroughbred Racing (ATR) wishes to advise that throughout the StrathAyr track testing process at Ellerslie which included gallops, jumpouts and trials, ATR found that the penetrometer readings taken on each occasion did not provide an accurate guide as to how the track was performing.

In collating feedback from stakeholders, it is apparent that the readings are stating the track is much firmer than how it rides.

After discussing the matter with the team from StrathAyr, Chris Hay, Track Manager at Elwick Racecourse in Tasmania (a racecourse also in possession of a StrathAyr track) and New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, it has been agreed that using penetrometer readings to determine the level of firmness of the Ellerslie track is a flawed process.

Therefore, for the foreseeable future, the Ellerslie track will be declared a Good 4 irrespective of rainfall.  This track rating will be a more accurate guide for stakeholders including the wagering public.

ATR has every intention of continuing to publicise the Ellerslie track penetrometer readings once they are more reflective of how the track will perform.

But you are wrong they do use quantitive measuring so you are wrong again....you just love to criticize and especially Trentham and Ellerslie.

Why take readings if they don't reflect "how the track will perform"?  A bit like does a bear shit in the woods.  If they're not published how do you know they are done?

Further after the issues with hardness the new technque of irrigating the hell out of the track and using mechanical intervention in the week leading up to race day the G4 is now permanently a S5.  What was the change in penetromer readings?  Why don't they use a Going Stick?

No I don't love to criticise however why can't stakeholders demand better standards and better and more complete information?

How good did Trentham race for the past two weekends...winners from everywhere, back ,front, on the pace, off the pace, inside, outside, good to see there is still some fair racing surfaces left, even after being hammered...well done all concerned.

Hi Guys,

I copy and pasted this posting from Facebook

Fleur Nimmo

Massive thank you to everyone who has anything to do with Trentham racecourse. It’s been awhile since we’ve been on course and was impressed with how the track was, the parade area looked amazing and the hospitality top notch. The extra special touch of these beautiful owners tickets and Thankyou for making the collection of KSHs trophy on behalf of my father n law and other owners so amazing. It was an amazing day 🐎 🥂

Sounds like Fleur had a great day there yesterday.

Well done but others Canterbury Man, Pogo, Zelda who really is Doug here as well as Chief, Trojan Noodlum, Curious/Leggy and a few others elsewhere will no doubt want to can it because they have their own agendas and can not possibly give credit where it is due.

I for one hope that Awapuni when they race in a few weeks goes well, it is badly needed but Trentham has done a great job for all the extra work it has had in the last 6 months.

I saw an article somewhere about Foxton, it would be good to see them get a few dates, with a sprinkler system and a pop up tent city for Raceday it could be a good option too...not sure it will happen but here's hoping.

Anyway lets wait for CM and his merry mob to start rubbishing Trentham again

Without a doubt it's the best a fairest Summer track in the country.

Everything generally gets a chance if they are good enough.

In fact the best horse nearly always wins.

A good example yesterday was Zackery in the first, where he had to be checked off heels, then get rebalanced, still find a gap and finish over the top of them.

I doubt that he could have won in the same circumstances anywhere else except for possible Riccarton.

P.S. I was an absolute credit to the track team to still have the rail in the true position and have it play just as fair as out wide.

You can knock curious/leggy off that list. It's one of the places I've never won a race but it's high on my hit list. Hopefully a big one :) Don't mind if it's on the figure 8 either.
