  1. To be fair - probably not quite comparing like with like here ... I imagine with the cost of Love You semen the quality of mares for books of the two stallions wasn't the same .... I have no axe to grind here - for what it's worth the mare I'm involved with has been to/is gong to - both these sires. I rate Love You highly and believe there are some excellent genetics elsewhere (northern hemisphere) for trotters. Just think sometimes pure stats can be a blunt and often mis-used tool....
  2. ... and of course time will tell but for a modest fee I would have thought The Bold One could throw out a few good ones as well ....
  3. Sure do know that Fitzy ... fair bit of pride and history with that stallion ... I can imagine a few sum it up as you do Nasrullah ... add a grand to their total a/c and ship `em north ...
  4. Yep Huey when you list em out you're right - that's quite a lot in terms of numbers .... Still wondering if the Fells are done with standing sires or just taking a break / looking for the right horse?? ...
  5. ... seem a bit limited .... What are the Fell brothers up to? Any word whether Fairdale or Goodwood will be standing any stallions this year?
  6. Very small gene pool in NZ thoroughbred racing. This will always give rise to conflicts of interest. Which are all the more damaging when they are not declared - or exposed. Sometimes integrity and commonsense are the victims. Everyone has an agenda, folks. So keep your wits about you or you will be either duped - or bought out - or paid off. Or someone you are counting on will be. J.
  7. At the risk of making generalisations - I wouldn't say the Iffraaj progeny tend to be the most placid types from what I've seen / experienced ...
  8. I'm not usually one for the gingas but Hot Streak looks amazing! And the bay from that photo looks a real classic Iffraaj type .... Love the photos La Zip!
  9. Would have to presume it's something to do with the track (bend?) - protecting it or doing some work on it? - not sure if the reason has been revealed publicly but shouldn't be any reason not to make it known?? Anyway - whatever the circumstances - good on them for signalling it early so trainers can make their plans in good time. J.
  10. Zero respect for an exiting individual who rides the gravy train of a struggling enterprise - as if trying to drain it of its last remnants of cash or credibility ... Even less respect for the governance of that enterprise who allow the individual to take advantage (aka "take the p###) in this way. But it seems their stakeholders never really manage to call them to account .... Just another slap in the face for struggling owners / breeders. Some people should be ashamed. Would be ashamed ... if they had a conscience or a shred of decency ...
  11. Nice one Trump. As far as the general topic - whether sex, gambling & other pastimes - I've never been certain where a lack of will power and self discipline ends and addiction begins ... Much as I remain unsure if ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) in children is a valid medical diagnosis - and here's another one I heard of for kids recently - DBD (Disruptive Behavior DIsorder). Where does poor parenting and a lack of discipline end and these labels kick in .... Of course addiction is a real phenomenon at some levels. But I feel uncomfortable that society currently seems very keen to medicalise and find labels for everything - and anything that goes wrong must be someone's or something's (preferably a government dept) fault - the last port of call in any of it appears to be personal responsibility on the part of the central participants ...
  12. ... and how well will the operation be running in general? When you send a mare away there is a fair bit of trust invested in the farm by the mare owner on a number of counts ....
  13. What is happening with the stud though? Can breeders have confidence sending mares there under the circumstances? No agenda here and not bagging anyone but this must be cause for concern/uncertainty? .........J ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Appointment/Release of Receivers & Managers Notice Title LINWOOD PARK STUD LIMITED, LINWOOD PARK STUD TRUST, MICHAEL TOLOLI and STUART BRAUNINGER (all in receivership) Notice of Appointment of Receiver and Manager Pursuant to Section 8 of the Receiverships Act 1993 Thomas Lee Rodewald was appointed as receiver and manager of the above-named entities on 22 February 2017 under the powers contained in a general security agreement dated 29 June 2016, which property consists of all present and after-acquired personal property. 14. Yep saw that ... have no vested interest but as a complete outsider I'm not sure I'd write him off altogether just yet ...
  15. Gd replies already! Cheers guys. Louise - that would be great if you didn't mind .... Rgds, Jess PS: have been away fm cafe for a long time - felt burned by some of the bitching but most of all, the bullying and arrogance from certain dominant characters on here - so just dipping my toes back in. Have in the past really enjoyed the contributions of many here however .. will see how we go I guess ...
  16. Great opportunity for young Kate in that stable ... she may just get the nurture to go with the nature .... `cause it would seem the genetic potential is assured ....
  17. Zelda - looking forward to photos here - please pay the chemist with urgency (dollars may result in quicker service than rubles perhaps???) I trust you sported a fancy fascinator in honor of the day (a photo of you in that fascinator would also be appreciated - we at the cafe would all love to put a face to your rather famous name ...) What in your learned opinion was the highlight of the raceday for you? (don't say Boris - you can have him any day ....) Regards, Jess
  18. Nice to see the old fella chalk up another one ...
  19. I'm wondering what the crew thinks about the various "programmes" around which can be used to assist decision making when it comes to choosing a stallion? It seems some really only take account of the match-ups of the male line - surely that's only half the story? Do you have a go-to piece of software which you put some store by? - or do you have a pedigree buff you use as a consultant? Obviously we all need to give thought to mare type, temperament etc - but that said - what about the analysis of the genetic match? Really interested to hear the thinking on this as we scan the websites (and our bank balances) and await delivery of the stallion book .......... .
  20. I'm no expert and I will be interested to hear what the experts amongst us think .... but I reckon Iffraaj is going to prove to be a very good broodmare sire also.
  21. Jimmy down to $7,000 for 2017 .....
  22. Track manager explained that penetrometer said slow 8 - but a stipe said slow 9. So Slow 9 it became. What say you guys after the first??
  23. "Interesting". Yes. Heavy 10-11 before the day's out I think ...
