  1. is there enough water about to keep brewing my favourite Monteiths?
  2. health and safety Porty - now it can also be unhealthy to sit on a chair all day so maybe some of those jobs at HQ can be abandoned too
  3. now the million dollar question ( excuse the pun ) will they abandon the Ellerslie million dollar races if that track gets wet and cuts up rough before those 2 big races ..... like they did after the Railway Hcp ?
  4. Admin - can you start a new forum .... just call it Gone. Bound to be one of the busiest
  5. Trump - a lot of things in NZ Racing have expired!
  6. being a conspiracy theorist - these abandonments have happened so that the trainers will need every meeting they can get and therefore there will be no strikes.
  7. W D - where are they going to get 15 x 53kg jocks from
  8. NZRB relies on punters for survival - yet they won't take a punt themselves and put up the money for this badly needed first class facility that is required.
  9. from stuff website Saturday's Marton meeting abandoned due to unsafe track WARWICK SMITH/STUFF The Marton meeting at Awapuni is the sixth thoroughbred meeting to be abandoned this year. Saturday's Marton Jockey Club meeting at Awapuni has been abandoned due to the state of the track. It becomes the sixth thoroughbred meeting to be abandoned in as many days in 2018. The storm that lashed much of the North Island over the last 48 hours has seen between 40-50mm rainfall on the Awapuni track. READ MORE: * A race meeting lost for every day of the new year * Cult hero horse Gingernuts on the improve In a statement, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) said it and the Marton Jockey Club will look at options to reschedule the meeting. MORE TO COME More to come - do they mean abandonments????????
  10. absolutely correct L.J - most farmers would understand this. However those running this track and at HQ think Farmers is just a department store
  11. Marton may be gone (like a few others recently) - but I am sure Insider and co will be doing handstands as according to the Met service the Upper Hutt area has got over 60mm rain in the last couple of days. Natural irrigation all over their beloved Trentham for the upcoming carnival. Couldn't be better a week out!
  12. eureeka heres the answer - if a club can't attract a field of 10 or more for each race they stage .... they don't race next year!
  13. for a moment there I thought LeRoy Jolley was another race meeting
  14. you been looking in my 60's record collection?
  15. TOM - I don't think anyone is pointing the finger at the Central Otago Racing Club for their misfortune - more like the bullshit that is coming out of NZTR and the RIU who between them make Michael Mouse look like a saint.
  16. Chitt's at 7.5 or 48kg - that's a few haircuts ago
  17. I am a simple man and I do not understand ..... does it take 4+ hours to turn a sprinkler off? The Omakau track was irrigated on Monday evening and stipendiary steward Mark Davidson said the sprinklers for the last 200m section were left on a timer, with a finish time of 8pm. "Unfortunately, when they got there at 8am on Tuesday they were still going, so they have had 12 hours of extra irrigation in one area," he told Radio Trackside. A fellow steward checked the track at 11am and found it in "beautiful" order until the area between the 350m and 250m Was at Omakau Tuesday, and the sprinklers were going down by the home turn. We arrived just before 12 noon
  18. Omakau Abandoned - 3 January 4 Jan The Omakau Races have been abandoned due to insufficient improvement in the wet area around the 350m point. The course was inspected by the RIU and Club officials this morning. A horse was galloped over the affected area and a decision made subsequent to that. NZTR, the club and the NZ Racing Board are looking at options to see whether this meeting can be re-scheduled. There will be a further update later this morning.
  19. Central Otago Races at Omakau 3 January 2 Jan The Omakau track has been inspected at 5.40pm Tuesday 2 January. Stipendiary Stewards have said that after a day of warm, drying weather, the part of the track that was initially concerning has improved considerably. The surface water between the 350m and 250m has desiccated. Two horses will be galloped just prior to 7.00am in the morning as a measure to confirm that the track is suitable to hold the race meeting. With a positive weather forecast it is envisaged that there will be no problems with the racing surface and the meeting will proceed as programmed. Central Otago @ Omakau Abandoned | Wednesday 3 January 4 Jan Further information to follow. Yes we have no bananas !!!!
  20. isn't the Thames track prone to flooding in heavy rain from the river nearby when there are high tides?
  21. Hesi - the answer my friend is called 'tampering with the truth'
