  1. Agree somewhat, but have Pub Holiday Mondays been in decline due to the muggle that is the calendar , there are most certainly public holiday dates that would work in the regions. Surely the public holiday on course costs in particular for the club would be negated by better on course turnover due to it being a public holiday.
  2. To be fair the AWT might be what stops them .
  3. Where have I got abusive? Tell us how does Millar does it then? Let's hear it? How does he arrange to do it? You're pulling an isolated scenario out that most smaller to medium sized stables couldn't do and you know it. Don't confuse prolific negativity with reality and common sense, most of what I say and many others on this site comes to fruition, its not my fault you live in such a deluded state you believe most of the decisions being made are going to make the industry better, sit back and enjoy the ride. What is this obsession you have with wanting to know how much skin people have in the game? Do you want to know my bra size as well???
  4. No there is certainly an agenda at play and to be honest its actually killing the sport in this country , despite all the PR & BS you are hearing about KM night etc. I know I sound like a broken record but its sucking the sport dry of its base, all very well for these big stables to spend plenty at Karaka but they have got to have someone to race against if they are wanting to put a decent product up. Look at those noms at NP this weekend, I do hope some big stables are going to come to the rescue with some horses , especially in the 2yo race.
  5. I realise you'd still incur the public holiday charges for many jobs on days like this, but here is a novel idea why not hold Anniversary Day meetings at small country clubs in the region of the Anniversary , surely that would create some cost savings with the volunteer base they have and also create those unique days for which the crowds come out for. Not going to happen I know ,as its pretty obvious how much the current regime at NZTR hates country racing!
  6. I think it provides more of a clue about how ignorant you are about the industry and how it works. Did Millar take all his horses down to the SI for races over this extended period of time? Was he even at Riccarton to watch the horse win on Saturday? Where were the horses stabled and who looked after them? Your other example is someone going somewhere for a carnival, hello everyone knows that goes on. You were claiming that trainers can just up and find races elsewhere if they are not in their region.
  7. Ok, I thought you cd get it everywhere. I see where youre coming from.
  8. Freeview a pretty big audience I'd have thought. I think they have done a great job getting it on there, it wasn't so long ago everyone (myself included) was screaming for trackside to be back on Trackside so to get the sales on there is fantastic!
  9. Surely youd also have to be pretty happy with the Almanzor prices off the 30k fee, some nice ones still to come.
  10. Youre about as silly as the personnel at NZTR that get rid of race meetings at venues and then put 10+ race meetings on at tracks with inadequate facilities (not enough tie ups , stalls etc) and expect the industry to just deal with it. Now you think stables can just up and take a small team and race them somewhere else on a whim, travelling hours or days at a time. Have you not been reading what is going on in Aus? So who works all the horses left at home? Who feeds them, holds them when the farrier is there, changes their rugs etc etc etc? You do realise that young horses don't break themselves in , teach themselves to gallop and learn to go through the gates on their own? But youre calling out stables as moaners and doomsayers cause they haven't got the time or operationally its not possible to do what youre suggesting ...pleeeassssse! The industry is already struggling enough for adequate staff without listening to delusional thinking like this. Now you think people have a choice where they train, so the poor guy that trains at Waimate can just sell up and move to Cambridge its that easy is it?
  11. From an NZ perspective you'd have to be pretty excited if you had an Almanzor also , with 3 selling for good money and one making 800k!
  12. Going for Westbury classic isn't she, $100k race just up the road compared to big trip away to Trentham, extra week prep, she is only 4yo plenty of time to get a G1 on CV you can't tell me she is going to run into horses of the quality of the 4 I've mentioned in Telegraph in that race.
  13. Still a very interesting race Tavi Mac vs Avantage va Marscapone vs Enzos Lad The 2 & 3yo races are super exciting ( no way the K million 2yo race will have as a good a field as the Wellesley this year) all taking place on the best track in the country!
  14. Big Al gone hasn't he? Even though the fields are light some pretty interesting races , I'm looking forward to it can't wait!
  15. Broken record, but the whole thing needs a rejig. That won't happen while NZTR and others have an ulterior motive behind everything they are doing.
  16. That wouldn't matter to you cause you can't tell the difference any way.
  17. Yet you're still posting and reading there ... LMAO!
  18. If the line is the industry can't afford the races, then is it time to bring in another sphere of racing , perhaps for less stakes at the smaller venues (I know they are hell bent on selling the lot of them) something that would take racing back to these smaller venues and give the local community something to build on and owners are trainers some more options. It isn't hard, perhaps some lesser form of media to show them on, well less expensive that is. But something to actually adequately service the industry, surely it isn't too much to ask for the brains trust at NZTR to come up with some ideas, like clubs fund half stakes or something. I know the issue here in NZ is that those meetings would likely be far more successful than a lot of the larger meetings and that in itself would be an issue with the strategy the industry continues to aimlessly pursue for the benefit of but a few!
  19. Less race days, less races - look at the fields sizes haven't we done well !!! Wait a minute AWT will definitely fix this problem ... ffs!
  20. Excellent, good luck with that. I'm sure you'll enjoy every moment of it!
  21. So did you end up buying your own walker and putting the horse on it twice a day before sending it off to the trainer when it had done its pre-training?
  22. The point is , I don't mind paying for it, but I'd like the option of having it all in one place , thats up to the providers to find a way to achieve , having to subscribe to several packages, use several apps etc is downright annoying imo
  23. I'm not surprised you react like you do, youre in the "everything is awesome" brigade , that is of course until it has an impact on you. I've got plenty of skin in the game and had a few race over the summer, so don't try an lecture me from your high horse. No thanks to the Spark sport , its yet another subscription based service for sport , its all getting a bit much for me at my age , I used to just be able to turn the TV on and watch what I wanted, things haven't improved they have only become more inaccessible & an expensive for the average guy like me. While we are at give us a good "bleat" about how much of a good punter you are , you know you want to I can smell your $1.5 shots from here, c'mon don't be shy let us know what a big hotshot you are on the punt, not like I haven't seen a thousand or your kind before.
