Yes , that is a serious question , even if there is nothing sinister in the report it's not a good look , and give the impression that something is being kept quiet . We have both Cambridge and Awapuni having their season opening meetings next week , it's going to be interesting to see how both fare with the new open nominations scenario . Obviously the mdns are an easy one but those horses with a win or more is going to be interesting . A 1 win horse racing against a 4/5 win horse isn't going to make the 1 win horses connections happy , but the 4/5 win carrying a huge impost is creating the same unhappiness . I have one running so will be watching with interest .

The only suspense in advance of the May 17 Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course was what posts the entrants would draw and how heavy of a favorite Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Journalism would find himself. View the full article -

Also the question must be asked why are the powers that be sitting on the report on the Awapuni Synthetic??? -
Didn't see that and I wouldn't have been looking for it as possibly some or many trainers . Interesting for them to do that , a conspiracy theorist would think that it was done to catch people out and deliberately keep noms low , for whatever reason . But I'm not so trust there was a genuine lack of interest , which in itself is a worry , you would think there would be horses needing a run to prepare for the upcoming AWT racing there . Or perhaps not that many .

Still doesn;t explain why the change from the norm. Most people would still be assuming the day before was applicable.

That's from the weekly nom/withdrawal reminder notice on the NZTR website. https://loveracing.nz/RaceInfo/49027/Meeting-News-Article.aspx

Why? The day before is the norm. Were trainers advised of the change.

Nominations closed at noon on Monday. Monday 12th May: Matamata RC Withdrawals (10am) & Riders (1pm) 14-05 Canterbury JC - Riccarton Park Synthetic Nominations (12pm) 15-05 Awapuni Synthetic Trial Nominations (12pm) 14-05

Never get any trials at Riccarton on the AWT but 11 races and good numbers on raceday, money changes everything i guess.,

Had a conversation with another racing person this morning and they asked a question that I had been thinking about , why were the trials for Awapuni on Wednesday canned on Monday? , very , very few trainers nominate their horses till the day before the trials . This person suspects there are darker reasons for it , and I tend to think it wouldn't surprise me if they were correct . This person also suggested there might not be any racing on it this winter . I'm not sure I would go that far . Too much conspiracy for me .

Would a horse rather have eleven light little taps with the whip/reins by Olivia that do not leave a mark or nine huge haymakers that leave welts from another male driver? The whip rules are pathetic

Thanks Ted great to see her so positive and good news on all the surgeries...hopefully it can continue to progress well for her. -
I think one of them got out of bed on the wrong side. Double the whip and rein infringements compared to a normal day.

NYSE historically reacts, sometimes violently, to news media as seems currently but always falls back to fundamentals which set buys and sells. The MAGA slogan is a driver but supporting fundamentals needed to create a genuine rising market. Current analysts predicting a steady rising market for next 60 days as favourable fundamentals are predicted. Any Trump manipulation may not in fact be the reality or the current driver but rather anticipated fundamentals. Agree entirely that a sector has indeed cashed in

Ulrika Holmquist. Positive news from Ulrika Holmquist after the accident: "The doctors are very pleased" 12 May 2025 17:26 During Thursday's races at Norwegian Övrevoll, jockey Ulrika Holmquist was involved in an accident in connection with race 6 when the horse she was riding fell. Many people wonder how it is with Ulrika and now after five days she is ready to go out with several positive news. What happened? "I felt that the horse was about to fall and just then it just went straight down. I landed on my head and neck and was lying on the track. Then I was taken by ambulance to Ullevål Hospital. When I got to the hospital, I had a serious concussion and felt very bad. It was very scary not really understanding what was happening, but it's much better now. After several examinations and yesterday's surgery, the doctor finally came with the news today – they were very happy with the result. "I have fractures in three thoracic vertebrae in my back that have now been operated on and stabilized. In addition, I have nine broken ribs and a punctured lung. No nerves in my back have been damaged, which is absolutely fantastic. I have a fracture in my neck, but after two MRI X-rays, they were able to assess that it was stable, so the prognosis is very good. Ulrika says that it feels like she has been given a second chance in life, that she is very grateful and tries to stay positive. "I'm so grateful for everyone who contacted me after the accident. Even though I haven't answered everyone, I've read every single message and greeting. It means so much to me. The love from the gallop family is great and it means so much. I'm grateful to be a part of it. In a few weeks, the doctor estimates that Ulrika will be on her feet and be able to start with lighter activities. "I had surgery yesterday and have been up and walking and standing today. The staff here said that they have never experienced anyone who has done it so quickly before, which feels very positive and gratifying. Ulrika will not ride any more races this galloping season. "Now my main focus is on healing and recovering at the right pace. Then we'll see what happens. The horse that Ulrika was riding, Mon Amant, unfortunately injured himself so seriously in the accident that he had to be put down. We wish Ulrika a good recovery!
