Look fair enough, the times were good as they always are at Riccarton, and there were close finishes too, but the sight of kick back or clods flying isn't a good look and nor does it suit a lot of horses. The shifty ground, which it must have been, when it presents like that, certainly hinders a number of horses, you have only got to talk to the old time trainers to learn that.
In defence of Riccarton I will acknowledge that they have already raced three times prior to this month in November and they had any amount of racing on the track leading up to the Cup Carnival. Maybe the surface never gets a chance to consolidate, hence the problem and of course the hard pan just under the surface.
Muritai, take time out to check Trentham to see the difference and remember this track has had over 9 inches of rain since 1 November or since they last raced at the end of October - Labour Weekend.
