  1. Just shows how pathetic the 4.77M over all codes with only part to enhance stakes really is. Tokenism. There is a need to boost at all levels but particularly the elite and the lower end. It wasn't until I was asked if I wanted to claim GST on stakes that I realised I was providing a service. The idea of paying horses starting for the first few times is good. It would encourage better fields for a race day instead of numerous trial runs which do not make any money for the industry. It is frustrating at certain times of the year to get into a field without being balloted and then if you finally have a bit of success to find suitable races. Some trainers seem to be genius's at this but to the average owner seems to create problems right through the system. I am sure Jackson & GP and the crew could come up with a few initiatives to move the industry forward if they got off their hands and stopped expecting help from other places. How the money is spent is as important as how much.
  2. Tokenism...How are the initiatives going to produce extra money or does that include savings by regionalisation etc Where is the cost benefit analysis of Paddy power and surely increases would be in sports betting and the sports bodies would be looking to benefit from that. NZTR needs to look at themselves and not just moan that the TAB needs to have bigger payouts. Dr Alan Jackson going to be there with GP?
  3. I think jumps racing is as much about horse racing as flat racing Riccarton and ellerslie are tremendous Wellington might be better used as and flat only with an all weather galloping, harness and dog tracks so all three codes could return to the capital Should never have sold the car parks and sales complex Still enough left though for a great all code development
  4. At least Sir Patrick would have been impressed by the breeding of the winner tracing back to the great SURROUND
  5. Why not Chris Finlayson At least he would be able to provide the legal nouse to dismantle the NZRB and get a workable model to replace it. A statutory manager would be a good start.
  6. Why do we have to get this from an overseas media first? Thought it would be big news in NZ. Surely meetings in NZ must be at risk.
  7. I agree that the venue of each meeting should lead any description of a meeting and the club running it is secondary when the races are listed in publications. It can be very confusing when the name of the club gives no indication of venue.
  8. Is this an opportunity to appoint a CEO of NZTR & NZRB to explore the savings of shared management. One person should be able to manage both as One racing would have been an even bigger enterprise. Eventually harness and greyhounds could be incorporated as well. Can't think of any conflict that could not be managed. A merger at board levels should be possible in the future.
  9. The drivers challenge is a fixed odds bet which can only be an account bet for people covered by the NZRB betting rules. What do you mean it wasn't for him. Why would he be involved betting in that way for someone else. Besides, I have always enjoyed his presentations and unless there is an ongoing pattern of misconduct a warning should have been all that was required. No need for the indusstry to shoot itself in the foot. They are being over sensitive.
  10. If it was a final field bet it should have been on his account NOT a ticket. He would have been well aware of this & it does make it more serious.
