There are none so blind as those who cannot see. CMN provides real data for those who understand betting and industry returns, ie, stakes, Just imagine if he was in a prominent HRNZ role as opposed to the muppets running the place in the last 2 decades

It is obvious that our handicapping/rating system is not fit for purpose, when you have races where more than half the field is over 10 lengths away from the winner, it is not good for punters or owners. If Entain want to give money to the breeders of 2yo winners, that's fine, grab it, but HRNZ who are paying the stakes, should never have agreed to the small fields. I think that 70% of the breeder bonus's will end up going to sales vendors, their breeding decisions are made by the strength of the yearling sales rather than "can i get a return on my investment when I go to races". I did see some figures last year that suggested 80% of breeders have ownership of a racehorse, so the stake for the first win is more important than some maybe bonus. Last Friday ATC had 10 races, and only 78 horses, that is an average field size of 7.8, 5 of the races did not pay a 3rd place dividend , and 7 races were won by the favorite. The only thing that MIGHT save the betting revenue from being a total loss, would be Mach Shard being 11/12 in the betting and beating the two hotshots. And they want to give them 14 more meetings!

I personally believe for the NPC to survive, NZ need to have about 10 teams covering the whole country, and then maybe bring in those Aussie teams as well, remember NPC is played same time as internationals then below that have Heartland Comp where a lot of smaller unions merge as well, Rugby simply can't afford all these unions, hard to justify a place for Southland, Manawatu the same, some of these small unions only have 3 clubs and the Rugby Union is funding then, can they afford it ? For Rugby to move forward it needs to let go of some traditions, Poverty Bay/East Coast and West Coast Buller, Wanganui/King Country have played together before against touring teams so they either move forward or die. Redraw the boundaries.

I think you are right about the state of the track, with the last quarter being only 29 seconds, which is ridiculous for this class of horse for a mile, Crystal had the right horse in the right place.

Only 12 teams in Super Rugby comp.eight finalists make it a joke.Used to be a time when NZers said Aus had too many teams, maybe it's Nz who have too many teams now. -
That Highlanders Force match last night was a very poor game, I actually thought the Force showed more enterprise, I suspect the Crusaders will be higher in the end on the table than the Highlanders, but spare a thought, 7 6 indicates a very poor match, go back to the good old days, 6 3 and 9 3 were very common scores at all levels, yet grounds were packed out for many matches. 8 teams making the playoffs seems weird, I think 6 with second lives for the top 2 would suffice, same for the NPC.

Remember, it was the Aussies that gave him all the hype in the first place, now they're backtracking.

Hope you got on Mighty Ulysses yesterday Stodge at 38-1 in Brisbane. That’s 3/3 second up wins now. Stablemate Jimi Hendrix ran the quinella…a very tasty $257.

We'll get to Sandown presently but looking ahead to the big Irish meeting at Punchestown this week. Wednesday's card has three championship races - the Channor Group Novices Hurdle over 4800m has 18 entries, 11 of which are from the Willie Mullins yard. It features Cheltenham winners STELLAR STORY (Albert Bartlett) and BETTER TIMES AHEAD (conditional jockeys handicap) as well as recent Aintree winner DANCING CITY. The Punchestown Gold Cup is the feature race of the meeting. I've previewed it on the previous and GALOPIN DES CHAMPS, despite defeats on his last two visits to Punchestown, is 4/7. Mullins has nine of the eighteen entries in the Champion INH Flat Race and they are headed by Cheltenham Bumper winner JASMIN DE VAUX who renews rivalry with runner up ROMEO COOLIO. Thursday's Barberstown Castle Novices Chase over 3200m has just nine entries and Mullins has six of them including Arkle winner GAELIC WARRIOR who is 1/3 to follow up his Cheltenham success. Aintree winner IL ETAIT TEMPS is in the entries but I think he now needs 4000m to be at his best. Gordon Elliott has been very much in the Mullins shadow of late but he dominates the Champion Stayers Hurdle with Cheltenham Stayers Hurdle winner TEAHUPOO and the useful IRISH POINT who chased home STATE MAN in the Champion Hurdle but who looks more of a stayer. IRISH POINT has also been declared for Friday's Champion Hurdle but he must renew rivalry against STATE MAN who is 2/7 to win another championship race over the 3200m hurdle distance. BALLYBURN is in Tuesday's Champion Novice Hurdle over 3200m but he's 1/2 for the Champion Novice Hurdle over 3950m on Friday. We'll know a lot more once we know how Willie Mullins shuffles his stars during the week ahead.
