Pottsie 58 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 Just wondering if there was somewhere yet with the top 24 acceptances for big cup. I realise it could change after this weekends racing. Just want to put a lazy $5er on a roughie but least want a starters chance if in field at momment. Thanks

PushTheButton 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 Correct, they're exempt from the ballot along with the Mackinnon winner, SYT and Descarado. Mackinnon winner will probably either already be guaranteed a Cup run or won't be in it at all. That's why the Lexus is so hot this time around
Properispomenon 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 The list of rcaes that automatically qualify you for a non-ballotting position is: The winner of the following, if any should be a nomination and a first, second, third and final acceptor for the 2010 Emirates Melbourne Cup, shall be exempt from any ballot on this race: ‐ 2010 VRC The Lexus Stakes ‐ 2010 VRC AAMI Victoria Derby ‐ 2010 VRC Mackinnon Stakes ‐ 2010 MVRC Cox Plate ‐ 2010 MRC Caulfield Cup ‐ 2010 Irish St Leger (IRE) ‐ 2010 Tenno Sho (Spring) (JPN) ‐ 2010 ARB Australian Stayers Challenge The top three of those are all run this Saturday... PushTheButton 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 Forgot about the Derby, as it would be unlikely I guess. When was the last time a VRC winner backed up? Efficient was scratched
Properispomenon 1 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 You didn't really forget the Derby, PTB... The VRC this year abolished that clause that gave the Derby winner automatic late entry to the Cup field if it was declared after its win... Now that winner will have had to have been an entrant, first acceptor, second acceptor and third acceptor to get into the field... I'm not sure that any 3-year-old in the Derby field will have been so accepted...

Yep I agree that there is a question mark, although it does seem a bit weird second guessing Bart ! Really makes it an even more fascinating race this year - hope he gets to the race so we can find out !

Properispomenon 1 Report post Posted October 26, 2010 Today Racing Victoria took the 2010 Melbourne Cup third declarations, with the connections of 47 horses paying the $3,520 fee for the $6 million feature due to run at Flemington on Tuesday November 2. The number of third acceptors is up from 42 in 2009. Over 30 stayers have dropped out of contention for the 150th Emirates Melbourne Cup at third acceptance stage, with notable defectors that were not paid up for today including Irish St Leger winner Sans Frontieres, Zabeel gelding Zabrasive, the Lee Freedman-trained Doctor Fremantle and Danny O
julie m 1 Report post Posted October 26, 2010 Bart has more than one string to his Melbourne Cup bow. Glad to see your thoughts jane. faint perfume was 2nd favourite backed late in the caulfield, she got badly knocked up courtesy of mr medici and did not recover. all of a sudden out to 41 and $9.50 a place on futures betting! false odds i hope. even dariana was an early favourite-as bart said she just didnt handle the track. The Apprentice 1 Report post Posted October 26, 2010 Red Ruler doing in there? No show. Dariana won't run/win at 3200m. Name a Redoubtes that has? Just like the Grandsire, they struggle past 2800m. I suspect Dariana will come out if it means Precedence gets a run. That's Bart's main chance.
Pottsie 58 Report post Posted October 26, 2010 Thanx for your responses about cup starters. Guess 35th on ballot won't get in unless starts and wins this weekend. Horse probably passed its best anyway. Another subject: Anyone know the next start for N Zer Kidnapped over in Aussie, thought was a massive run over there last start. Yea if Precedence doesn't run in the Lexus, then I'd say that was a pretty good signal that Dariana and/or Faint Perfume won't start in the Cup. I don't really think Faint Perfume is a MC horse myself, and I'd say they would sacrifice both of them to get Precedence a start. If they only need to pull one of them I wonder which it'll be?
