All stables have times when they go through quiet periods. I don’t read anything into it at all.

I'm not either nor am i suggesting anything untoward but it just seems strange they have had so fewer winners of late given they won premiership with 137 winners

Horses reach their ratings and need to drop down again to be competitive. They aren’t machinea

Doesn’t seem the least bit strange to me.  Great performance to train so many winners.  As MrBigStuff says after so many wins it’s to be expected that some of their horses have risen in the ratings to a point where it’s harder to win.  Happens in all stables.

Never said they were but 2 wins in 7 local meetings seems strange. Not as if they are short of horses so lets see how long before they regain winning momentum.

Unhinged had J Dunn winning the drivers premiership….. love is blind…… B Orange domination…..

You obviously don't watch alot of my interviews,  every time I talk to Blair i refer to him as number 1 , only bets i had on premiership was for trainers so it was good to get a just under 12,000 top up my tab account a month before the end of the season. Blair certainly sets the bench mark high  the travel he does is incredible.

Nigel I watch all of your interviews….. I admire your passion…. I loved the Purdon/All Stars episode…. Beach report is repetitive….. diverse to keep it entertaining…. Keep up the good work and passion….. HRNZ need to employ you as they have nothing in terms of promotional videos…. Best of British….

And another few meetings go by and no wins for the Dunn stable.

Unhinged or Westview whats going on?

well the first day of the season yesterday at Rangiora and they had 2 seconds and 2 thirds placings from 6 starters. so not too far away.

In race 9 Regal Sierra galloped badly early on John Dunn,  and must of been 100m from the leaders at one point. Then the oldies like Rachminov and the Bloss having their gazillionith race starts, could only trot the last quarter in a very slow 33 seconds, so Regal Sierra ran past most of them and got 3rd somehow. was a funny sight.

Watching Unhinged they always have an excuse….. must be losing a fortune…. Dunn’s will win premiership again…. Kick off at Nelson meeting….

What I find really strange is your obsession with Dunns results. Quite normal for stables to go through times when they run hot & other times when they don’t do so well.  They may be having a dip at the moment but they will come back soon.  It’s as if you don’t really understand this.

let's hope so for the poor owner's sake, not obsessed but just can't follow why they are performing so poorly especially those well in the market.

This is a forum for discussions and observations, mine are usually pertinent, if you don't like them don't read them. Simple really

But why just concentrate on Dunns. ?There’s another stable performing well below their normal results for the past decade, do you wonder what’s gone wrong there?.

That’s a bit condescending. I know a few owners involved with the stable & they are very happy. Unlike you they recognise stables go through quiet patches sometimes.  Dunns are great trainers.

Never said they weren't although their Grp1 results might not put them in the great category.

I get that horses reach their grade but the whole Woodend team is going worse than bad of late and i'm simply pointing that out. If the owners are happy with poor results then thats for them to decide

well the Dunns outfit are the Leading stable, so therefore come under scrutiny like the leaders in any Sport competition would if losing matches.

If you're talking ALLstars ? , yes their results for a decade were 'Through the Roof' high for a decade, but they retired the MAIN brand exactly 4 years ago now. Nat near retired at that stage.  When Amazing Dream capped off that Best in the World decade for them in that NYE Auckland Cup (with another great stable Quinella too) . A great race.

since then Hayden Cullen , and Olivia battled hard for a while and got some nice results, before leaving to do their own thing as well.

BlairO and Nathan Purdon (the Main current Allstars combo)  are just doing Fairly well,??

, Mark sort of semi-retired going to the North Island and that sort of thing ,  but they still won some features with Oscar B lately

But you're right , they (Allstars)  horses are back to the field a length or so, since Hayden left ? and 2 lengths since Nat left .

and  the Allstars have ONLY RUN 2nd in about 20 Feature Races over the past 2 seasons ? (many with DSD)  The 2nds including last 3  Nz Cups , when 4 years ago with Natalie Rass and Mark in full swing they would of WON at least half of those 20 feature races .

The sad AKUTA and MILLWOOD NIKE injuries also savaged their winning ways hugely as well.

All Stars still had a good season, earning $2.1m and UDR: 0.3745.

Nathan has taken over and the stable lost a lot of experience with Mark and Natalie gone. Nathan is young and will make a few mistakes.

It's interesting to compare the UDR of top stables.

Purdon/Phelan, $3.2m, UDR: 0.4195. Outstanding!!

Regan Todd, $800,000, 0.3093.

H Cullen, $700,000, 0.3375

J & J Dunn, $2.7m, 0.2660.

I think Todd and Cullen stables will give the more established G1 trainers a challenge in the years to come. Both are excellent trainers and use top drivers. Good stuff.

Totally agree…. Don’t spend millions at sales….  Win group races regularly…. Be cheaper per month than Dunn’s…..

Your the one making it all up as you go by the looks of your posts. Make a statement and then leave it to others to provide an answer. Each to their own

Neither would spend anything like Dunns have done in say last 3-4 seasons. Yet they are doing very well and are being rewarded with new owners and higher quality stock.

M Pudon is more or less winding down his harness career by the looks of it although i hope he keeps selecting yearlings for stable clients because his record on that score was nothing short of remarkable

They are showing the quality (rather than quantity ) of their training ability.  First Class trainers they are and would put a horses with them No worries at all.

Setting horses for races and getting Big results. Mo'unga, Marketplace, and all his support horses are racing so well for Regan Todd. I'm sure Allstars giving him THE FIXER that time , helped him on his way and gain confidence in preparing good horses.

Cullen also with that huge Allstars experience for years , sends around a few runners that always seem to be a chance as he gets established as a Trainer on his own. OliviaT helping him no end too.

The Dunn''s stable with 50 odd horses going around at any one time in work,  is a bit like Grant Dixon here in QLD with 80 horses (because a couple of his millionaire owners breed them and he's stuck with them lol) and so they have several slower horses racing at slower places. surely they should step it up a notch?  (and scale back lol)

When really both those stables (Dunns and Dixon)  should just have Top stock to race and be more selective . VERY hard FULLtime work doing 50 and 80 horses with a gazillion staff ??  they could have less and do them better possibly?  like Allstars have for a long time as a leading stable. They should have Just have good Metro or Stakes winning horses like McCarthy, Barry Purdon, Emma Stewart , Hall's in WA, and Allstars have done for many years?? . forget about Nelson and places like that lol. leave that for the hobby and picnic participants to get some of the fun. they need a winner to keep interested in the sport.

Dunn’s are quantity over  quality…quality  suffers due to quantity…little things missed….. Unhinged can advise his investment re return….. sent Spellbound to N Purdon to get group success… better return….
