Catalano 951 Report post Posted March 12, 2014 Is it as simple as sending them to larger stallions, or do you look to breed a good smaller horse?

Dopey 214 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 A good breeder once told me that a small mare will likely return to average size foals. After three foals you will know.
Tapu 48 Report post Posted March 27, 2014 Have a look at her parents & grandparents - it will give you a better indication of what size you might expect. Is she second or third generation "small" or just first generation "small"? She could be from average size parents which like the man above said - things revert to average in the main. Using a large stallion will not necessarily mean you will get large foals. You may get them popping up in the next generation instead should you breed a filly from that mating, in saying that you may get a large foal which could depend on his parents. Better to consider type and confirmation & from what damline she is from. Breeder
