  1. Derby Day is the best day of racing at the carnival without doubt and really looking forward to it. Best memory, sitting in the Hill Stand watching Oliver Twist win the Mackinnon after Greg Childs told me it would win. Made the day a great one!!
  2. DHL Counties Cup Meeting 22 November Transferred to Avondale Racecourse The DHL Counties Cup meeting on 22 November will now be run at Avondale. Following the abandonment of the Counties meeting on Wednesday the Club and NZTR decided that the planned remedial works scheduled to begin at Pukekohe Park in December should be brought forward and the Cup meeting should be transferred to provide certainty for participants. The meeting scheduled for 3 December will also be transferred with a venue to be announced next week. There is no change to the advertised program with $490,000 up for grabs across the meeting which is headlined by the Group 3 $100,000 DHL Counties Cup and the Group 2 $100,000 NRM/Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes. NZTR and Counties Racing appreciate the assistance of the Avondale JC in making the venue available for this important meeting. Nominations close with the National Racing Bureau at Noon on Tuesday 18 November. Withdrawals 10am Wednesday 19 November.
  3. So how many are you going to buy at the upcoming RTRs? Better than an ATM isn't it?
  4. You had a bet already it seems Gubellini.
  5. Happy Birthday Bob I hope those boys of yours are shouting you out tonight. Stevie's had a couple of winners lately.
  6. To be fair Counties were probably stuck between a rock and a hard place yesterday and probably had no choice but to run the meeting at home. Ellerslie raced on Saturday and have un upcoming meeting next Tuesday and Te Rapa raced on Monday and have another meeting next week. Tauranga race this weekend and Te Aroha had trials on the course proper yesterday. They possibly could have gone to Avondale but they do have a meeting next Wednesday also. There was concern at the trials yesterday that Counties would be abandoned if the predicted rain came and that concern I believe led to the huge number of scratchings first thing this morning. The rain did arrive and abandonment followed. Work has to get underway asap but more importantly the remedial work has to be done 100% correctly to avoid any on going problems. If that takes longer than anticipated so be it. The track itself is one of any clubs most prized assets and should be a primary focus for each and every club to nuture and maintain to the highest order.
  7. As I advised early yesterday morning Gubeullini.
  8. Slow 7 and rain forecast for tonight. Hmmm!
  9. I never found her appealing anyway, just joking Gubellini.
  10. Next start will be on Saturday in the Carbine Plate with Joao Moreira up.
  11. Yes, well done Morty. Impressive win.
  12. Ellerslie Sat 25th Way In: Held up until the 150m and the had to be eased closer to the post. Kelly O'Reilly: Held up for a run early in the straight and hit the line strongly for third. Ultraviolet: Got on to heels of another runner and then had to shift out and finished well for 2nd. Gisela: Another runner shifted in taking her line and then blocked for the rest of the straight. Cantina: In the same race also got no room in the run home and copped a check also. Wellington: There were a number of unlucky runners in the last: Wills Road: Became awkwardly placed and held up for most of the straight getting clear late. Redalign: Also held up for a run in the straight. Diamantine: Had nowhere to go and still looking for a run. Edge Of Glory: Again held up and failing to get a run. Waikato Mon 27 Big Dreamer: Became awkwardly placed early in the run home and got onto heels in the straight. Her To Eternity: Trapped wide early without cover and hit the line well late. Turn Me Loose: Slipped badly at the start and got back last, came wide into the straight, strong finish.
  13. Spot on Admin. I thought I would validate for you by backing up with facts, something Fasthorse can't comprehend. Puha, I use full time professional trainers based in the two major training centres in the Waikato. As I stated above the going daily rate is around $75.00 (including gst)for such trainers which comes to $2325.00 a month before anything else is included.
  14. O'Marilyn looks to have a real mortgage on the 1000 Guineas Lloyd. Hopefully she will give your daughter a huge thrill with a G1 win down there.
  15. FYI Slow Brain May invoice with horse having one start at Ellerslie that month came to $3641.71 Your comments show that you really need to wake up and smell the coffee.
  16. You are an idiot Fasthorse and are showing complete ignorance. I have provided you with accurate information which had been backed up by others who have experienced the same costs, yet you are still in denial. For the last bloody time the years costs are $25,00 - $30,000. which includes the horse spelling. I provided details from one 30 day month with the account coming to $2600 without any race starts or trials, so a basic account. Imagine the what the account would be with the horse having one or two starts and the associated costs....well in excess of $3,000 for the month. You have no bloody idea and despite being given a reality check you continue to not accept what has been accurately provided to you. Go away!!
  17. Since I posted this they have said on Trackside that Opie was very lucky to stay on and that he said he nearly bailed out. They said the head on showed Turn Me Loose was very lucky to retain his feet. Would have been nice if they had of showed this. Still a long way to go Rev.
  18. Taking nothing away from the winner, how good was Turn Me Loose today. Three horse slipped on jumping, ironically, the first three home O'Marilyn, Vinnie Eagle and Turn Me Loose. O'Marilyn recovered and went through to lead whilst Vinnie Eagle improved down the back and took over with O'Marilyn sitting in the trail. Meanwhile Turn Mr Loose sat back a clear last and was 12 lengths from Vinnie Eagle at the 800m and ten lengths at the 600. Vinnie Eagle and O'Marilyn lead into the straight with Vinnie Eagle moving out giving O'Marilyn a gap you could drive a bus through. Meanwhile Turn Me Loose was moving around the outside of the field and was widest into the straight and the fourth horse Stratocaster got a lovely run from near the back on the fence. O'Marilyn quickly mastered Vinnie Eagle and went on the win by a length and a half and Vinnie Eagle managed to keep Turn Me Loose who was getting home strongly out by a long head with a long neck back to Stratocaster, with Turn Me Loose running through the line very strongly. After giving the first two a huge start and going very wide from the 500m I thought the run was huge going forward into the 2000 Guineas. O'Marilyn franked her form going into the 1000 Guineas also.
  19. Top Three: R2 Big Dreamer: Drops back to a maiden after running fourth in stakes company just under two lengths behind Avisto. R4 Vavasour: Ran second in the same race finishing a length behind Avisto. The start previous ran second behind the very promising Volkston'n'barrell who bolted in at Ellerslie in stakes company. Back to maiden race here she should be too good. First time left handed though. R8 Turn Me Loose: As most know I have rated this colt extremely highly from day one and it would be very pleasing to see him win again in what is a nice field. Opie back for this boy. Get Out Stakes R10 Osmunda: Very good run fresh up at Taupo for third and never saw daylight here last time.
  20. Cheers Gubellini. Confirms everything I have have been saying. Two starts would have been in excess of $3000. Two starts at Ruakaka you would be looking at $4k for the month. There will a number heading south to Riccarton also so their November account will be steep if they return home empty handed.
  21. Exactly Gubellini. The question is, if she will listen, going on her response to both rides. Victorian Jockeys Association CEO Des O’Keeffe said he expected there would be a “solid review” in the aftermath of the Schofield fall
  22. Both Fasthorse and Puha's connection is that of owner/trainer in the lower North Island I believe.. The average training fee up here is $65 + gst = $74.75 a day which for a 31 day month is $2,317.25. I have had horses with four different trainers and the cost is virtually the same. Puha's original question he stated that in CHB it is about 2k a month for a small stable, low overheads and that depending on the operation he expected a variance of $1k which equates to $3k a month. So you are roughly correct Puha. So at $2300 odd just for training fees a month and then all the other expenses plus 2 starts in the month would be in excess of $3000 for the month. Work out the cost if you went to Ruakaka and raced twice there. That would add an extra $1500 just for those two days. Gubellini has confirmed training fees up here. Puha, the gear hireage is bugger all, some include some don't. Now Fasthorse hasn't come back. I hope that you have received a reality check Gollum (Fasthorse) and when your masters from Petone check in with you re the response to your "precious" Racing Bonanza thread I trust you will tell them it is not enough. The stakes don't go as far as you thought. Stakes have to be increased significantly across the board, particularly so in the lower grades to encourage people to race and breed horses. We cannot continue to have people walk away from ownership, stop breeding their mares, with an emphasis on those remaining having to survive by selling as fast as they can or going offshore to race them for decent stakes causing further erosion of domestic racing. The only way to arrest this is to provide worthwhile stakes.
  23. Why be disappointed Gubellini, it was your call re the Myers Classic, not mine. As stated above not one filly has won the race since the race inception in 1988, 26 runnings and you want me to punt her in the race. This thread was about Michelle's poor ride in a 3yo fillies race at Caulfield which has been roundly slated. You defended the ride which is fair enough, that's your opinion. A week later she gets a 20 meeting holiday and a 10 meeting holiday in the following race. In my opinion she should have had a dangerous riding charge rather than careless. I note that you have not commented on that ride as yet. Gruff has concerns over the way she is currently riding. Someone should be taking her aside and having a good talk with her. Your view?
